Southern California and Disneyland Adventure

Hey I’m a Brit going on this trip in March (the longer 6 day one) I discovered a few days ago day 1 of the trip starts the same night as the 2023 Oscar’s, does anything special happen or done differently on the trip as it’s Oscar’s night? I suspect LA will be extremely busy?

That's going to put a bit of a crimp in anything happening that day. As you may know, the Oscars are held in the Dolby Theater which is connected to the Loews Hotel. Also, Hollywood Blvd will be closed that night for the red carpet arrivals.

No idea just what ABD will do that day.

I hope you're arriving ahead of March 12th. It would be very difficult for ABD to get you to the Loews on that day.

I think day one is arrival/checking into the trip ( I arrive the day before) and a welcome dinner at the hotel. Oh that’s a bummer that Hollywood blvd closed that night and no I didn’t know the Loews and Dolby are connected.

Anyone done this trip when previous Oscar’s have been held that can give advice/review what to expect ?

We are going to be on that trip with you!

There will be lots street closures in Hollywood around the Dolby. This year’s list of closures is not yet posted, but here’s a link to a page with some basic info. A taxi or Uber likely won’t be able to get close to the hotel, so you’d have to walk from a few blocks away.

And this site has a map with the Oscars road closures in 2022.

Will the shopping centre attached to the hotel still be open for food etc during this time usually?

I’m sorry, I don’t know as I avoid going to Hollywood around this time. What I’d suggest is when it is closer to your trip, check the shopping center website to see if the hours are modified or whether it is even open. Lots of sidewalks also get closed around the theatre. Here’s a link to which sidewalks were closed last year. People might not be able to make it to the centre if those sidewalks are closed.

Is information on were to meet the driver when I arrive into Los Angeles airport sent closer to the time?

Usually they tell you to place orange luggage bands around your luggage after you pick up your bags. Then a representative for ABD is usually waiting for you there as close to that point they can be holding an orange ABD sign. They know your flight info and when to expect you.

A couple questions as this will be our first ABD trip. We leave in May.

We are doing the extended trip and saying the night before at Loews. Any recommendation on what to do Sunday before the official tour starts? Roughly what time does it start? We were thinking of either Ubering to Queen Mary or Warner Bros Studio Tour. Or, looking for one of those Hollywood bus tours. Anything else people have done? We have been to Hollywood Blvd once before and really don't have any desire to just wander around there for the day. LOL the lack of us having to plan anything on this trip is a weird feeling so at least we can plan that one day :) Oh, and I saw some recommend heading to Universal Studios that day, we aren't interested in that as we don't think there'd be enough time to get a decent day in at Universal.

We are heading home on the red eye Friday night so we will be able to have all day in the park Friday. If I understand the itinerary correctly, you do the breakfast on Friday then the tour is basically over. I gather from other posts we don't have to make park reservations on the actual park days as ABD takes care of it. But what do we do about that Friday for our park reservation?

Thank you!
On my tour, I flew in the day of (Sunday). We did a quick check-in where I got my room key, made a meal choice for next day's lunch, and got some information. Dinner was at 5:30 in the hotel, and I only had a few hours so I went to the pool. I've heard the Warner Brothers Studio tour is great, but I personally haven't done it. Universal is close by and you could get in a very good day there if you show up early. On my only other visit to LA, we rented bikes in Manhattan Beach and rode around; it was a pretty good day.

The last day depends on where you have breakfast. If you have it in the parks, your guides will make a reservation for you. If not, they can make you one the night before without having to worry about them being sold out.

We have done the Warner Brothers backlot tour twice and it is very good. Just a short drive from Lowes. We have a friend who is a VIP guide at Universal so we splurged and did the tour and it was worth every penny. The farmers market is also fun to visit. There are just so many options for things to do in the area. We had a great dinner at Musso & Frank Grill in Hollywood on our last trip this past July.

If nothing else, it will be in the digital handbook you get prior to your departure. Most people, I'd tell them to call ABD, but since you're in the UK, I understand that's not a good option.

You could try emailing them at abd.guest.communications@adventuresbydisney.com

At some point ABD will ask for your flight information, so your driver will know the terminal and approximate time you'll be arriving. Mine texted me as my plane arrived, and I let him know when I had my bags.

The guides will ask for a phone number they can contact you with, so you might want to get an international plan or pay as you go phone.

This is really good advice. During our ABD, the She-Hulk premiere was at El Capitan. While the shopping centre was still open, they closed off some of the balcony areas overlooking the street and theater (I'm sure for security purposes - we were trying to get to the Kobe mural and security turned us away). With the Dolby theater just next door, all of the arrivals, etc. I would assume security will be very, very, tight.

There is a metro station right at/underneath the shopping complex that gets closed starting late Saturday evening. The metro still runs but will bypass this station. The closest open metro will be at Hollywood & Vine, which is about a 10-15 minute walk away.
