We made it home! Got in just before 9:00 pm last night. Had to wake the kids up early since today was the first day back to school. L is in 6th grade (middle school
), J is in 4th grade and B is in 3rd grade.
So let's get this TR started...shall we?
So...I guess I need a new name for my TR since we've already taken our trip
I shall name it "Sometimes things don't always go according to plan." Yes, I learned this the hard way. At least I know better when it comes to planning our next trip (6/30-7/5/13!!!
).
Our trip begins on Saturday, 8/25. Alarm was set for 5:00 am, and guess what...we woke up at 5:00 am
I am the queen of the hitting the snooze button, so this was a huge deal for me
All we had to do was brush our teeth and get dressed. Everything was already packed in the van the night before. We double checked to make sure everything was off, locked and packed. Larry (my husband) got the kids in the van and asked if we were ready to go. I replied, "Of course!" and then he asks for the keys
Yes, the keys were inside the house. I guess we need those too, right?! I go inside to grab them and do one more walk through *just in case*. Everything looks good to go! Did a quick headcount
and everyone was present!
I* (and the banana that never left her side...she did not want to eat it, just hold it
)
J, ready to go!
L and B
So we were in the van and pulled out of the driveway by
Our GPS calculates we'll be at the in-laws in 14 hours (it actually only took a little over 12 hours)
We stopped to fill up the gas tank and grab breakfast to go. We had Mc Donalds. Larry and I ordered breakfast burritos. You would have thought they were nice and fresh since they just opened, but they were hard and stale. Everything was going well until 7:30 am, when we hit this
Isaac letting us know he is on his way! We saw a lot of emergency response vehicles and electric company trucks on the way down. The rain was pretty heavy and we couldn't see more than 5 feet ahead of us. Luckily, it only lasted about 20 minutes. We stopped for lunch somewhere in South Carolina. There weren't many options, so we went with Burger King. I had chicken strips. They were ok, but I could only eat 3 of the 5 that I had ordered. I gave the rest to the kids. A little after 12:00 pm, we finally see this glorious sign
But we still have 5 hours to go! The rest of the drive was pretty uneventful. We had to drive past WDW to get the in-laws...what a tease! It was comforting knowing we would be there in 2 days though! We arrived at their house safe and sound around 5:30 pm. We talked, ate a delicious dinner my MIL made, and we went out back to roast marshmallows
Sunday was spent spending more time with the ILs. For lunch, Larry and I grabbed Publix subs for the adults (I HAD to have my cuban sandwich
) and Subway for the kids (they like meatball and buffalo chicken, neither of which Publix had). For those who have never had a Publix cuban sandwich...you must try it!!! Absolutely heavenly and worth the trip down alone
The kids went swimming in the pool and we called it a night pretty early since we had to wake up bright and early to head to WDW!!!
Next up: Checking in at ASMovies, Breakfast with the princesses and EPCOT! And an unwelcomed guest named Isaac.....
