Solo traveler hotel recommendation

I am attending a conference in Southern California (San Diego) at the end of the month. Since I will be so close to Disneyland, I decided to come out a couple days early to spend 1.5 days at the parks.

Does anyone have a hotel recommendation? I only need a room for one night. I plan to stay until the close of the parks the first night and be at the park for rope drop the second day. I don't need many amenities, just a decent hotel that is safe and relatively close to the parks or the parking lots.

Thanks!

I'm sure any of the good neighbor hotels near Disneyland will be good for one night. I've stayed at the Best Western Plus Anaheim Inn which is right across the street from the park and it's decent plus hotel guest can park for free where most local hotels will charge you even if you are staying at the hotel. If you decide to stay at this hotel asks for a room closest to the lobby.

Any of the hotels across the street on Harbor Blvd will be fine. I have stayed at the Tropicana twice on solo trips and had no problems at all. I also stayed at the Anabella, which is on the other side on Katella. That one did make me feel a little uneasy walking back at night because there weren't as many people around. Each time I requested a room at the front of the hotel. It just felt safer that way being a woman travelling on her own.
Have fun!

I've stayed at HOJO's, traveling as a solo woman traveler. For some reason, while I liked staying there with the family, I found that staying there solo, I didn't like the walk back to the hotel at night. Not sure why, but never felt really safe for some reason. I guess I felt safer in numbers when staying there with the family. HOJO's is a good hotel, otherwise, and have had no complaints when traveling with the family staying there. It's for this reason on my next solo trip away from the family I stayed at BWPPI (Best Western Park Place Inn), and loved it. The best recommendation from a person regarding hotels is when they are willing to stay there again after their first stay at the hotel. I'm planning another solo trip away from the family again (my older son is a handful, and I need time away from the family to recharge my batteries so to speak), and intend to book BWPPI for my next trip.

I've stayed at the Carousel Inn a couple of times. I've tried to book at the BWPPI but it's been unavailable every time! But the Carousel is reasonable and an easy very close walk across the street. Always seemed to be a lot of people in that area in front so I think if you can stay at any of the hotels in that close section on Harbor you should feel very secure. There's always some of other hotels further down Harbor if you want to take a shuttle (Doubletree, Embassy Suites, etc).

I agree on HoJo's. I stayed there on my solo trip, and while it was clean and comfortable and didn't feel outwardly "unsafe", that walk back at night felt very long. There are stretches that are a bit "empty" feeling, and I was always glad to get back to my room. Speaking of, I was given a room with a connecting door and couldn't change it. That always makes me nervous as a single woman traveler...

Candy Cane Inn is a short walk down Harbor (on the same side of the street as the DLR). They also have a dedicated shuttle that is reliable and would work at night if you did not want to walk back. Nice place, clean rooms, free parking, nice breakfast and good customer service.

Thanks for the advice so far. I looked at the HoJo and wondered about the distance.

I stayed at the Candy Cane Inn with the family the last time we went. I really like it but there are several options closer to the enterence. I may consider it though. I forgot about the shuttle.

Tropicana is great - close so the walk is easy and safe plus Pizza Press and the store are super handy if you don't want to venture too far at night :)

I stayed at Desert Inn last year, it wasn't fancy but it was clean and fine. Right next to the crosswalk, inexpensive. We're planning on staying there again in September; I got $99 a night.

With HoJo if you walk along the hotel side of Harbor, you'll be with people the whole way. There are hotels and restaurants all along there.

Anabella I can sort of see, but we were walking with other groups every single time we went back and forth in January.

I stayed at Carousel on a solo trip and felt scared. I was upstairs, but I had a smoke alarm go off (steamy shower) and despite two calls for assistance in turning it off (I'm short and couldn't reach it) no one ever came. I did NOT like that. (and it was shortly after a big fire at a Vegas casino, so it freaked me out that they ignored a smoke alarm)

That is not good. The hotel should have taken care of that asap. Or move you if necessary of course to an upgrade if possible.
It amazes me how hotels are not tended to they way they should be. Some properties are treated like either a messy sand box or a thrashed garden. Sigh...
Sorry for that lousy uneasy experience.

I stayed at the Sheraton Park solo in 2008 (and before and since with family). The walk was a little far but felt VERY safe (plus it`s right across from the Toy Story parking lot which lots of people take advantage of). And since I was staying on a staff rate so there was quite literally no way to beat the price ($69/night).

I've stayed at Tropicana twice recently, and am currently (as I type this) at their sister hotel, Camelot Inn and Suites. Both are basic but nice. Doesn't feel dirty and are right across the street. Camelot Inn and Suites seems to be cheaper, overall, and is just one hotel farther away from Disneyland.

I've also stayed at Fairfield Inn. I didn't like that hotel near as much. Room felt very small, was more expensive, and the walk felt just a little too far for me.

Have fun on your trip!

DD and I just came back from a 2 day stay at the Tropicana and it was great. Close to the parks, clean and felt safe walking to/from at night (we went open to close with a mid-day stop at the hotel to drop off purchases). Prior to that we (this time DH was with us as well) stayed at the Desert Inn and felt safe there. Both places are very similar in size/location etc. I agree with others about the HoJo, very close and we stayed there on our first trip but if it was just me and DD I would not choose a place even closer to the park entrance.

If you go to youtube there are a couple of great walking videos on there of the Walk from Hojo's and see you all the hotels along the way. Search for walk to disneyland from hotel. Quite a few videos to choose from. But it really gives you an idea how long the walk is and what other Hotels are even closer.
