Another thread made me remember the water in Southern CA... it is so thick tasting. Does this bother anyone else? I could not even bring myself to drink any water while there unless it came from a bottle... no tap water. Blah!

Any CA folks know why this is?

I don't know why. But I just moved here a year ago from Ohio. I had to buy a water filter for home. I no longer drink unfiltered tap water unless it's my only option.

I don't like SoCal water at all. I avoid it at all costs. My sister doesn't even like to brush her teeth with it, she uses bottled water when we're down there. I remember in 6th grade, my teacher referred to the water as recycled pooh water, ewwww!

I was really happy to see Disneyland selling SmartWater the last time I was there. I don't know why, but it's my favorite bottled water.

I am born and raised in California and really I don't know why the water tastes bad. We've always had bottled water, Arrowhead water mostly. Most of our water is provided from the Colorado River or from northern california. Our water travels pretty far. As for brushing your teeth with bottled water...ok...that's just a bit extreme. And lastly for the recylced water...yes we do have that but its used for landscaping purposes only. You will notice a difference in the feel of it. The college I attended which was in OC, used recycled water for all its landscaping needs.

I didn't mind the cup of ice water I got at DCA at all. But I'm pretty easy about water taste.

My good friend is a city planner, she once had a first date at a waste treatment site (he was an engineer also working for the city), and she would tell us all that cleaned, uber-filtered, recycled water from icky-sounding sources is likely cleaner than water pulled from a mountain spring, what with all the bears and deer and campers using the water for whatever they use it for....:rolleyes1

You think So-Cal water is bad? Try mine, my area is zoned for agriculture so there are tons of additives in the water. We always drink bottled or filtered from the fridge, all tap water tastes funny to me. lol I still use it for showers and brushing my teeth though. :)

SoCal water always tasted kinda wierd to me also until we were in Phoenix a few years.:scared1: It is so bad it 'smells' like dirt. :sad2:

... fish pee in it you know!!
Seriously, no I don't drink the tap water . I live in West L.A. and the water is terrible. It actually makes me a little sick. Like I have the flu or something. So we use a brita filter and that works fine. I also just bought a cute pink water bottle so I dont have to keep buying disposable bottles. But I do also love that DL sells smart water. Anyhoo, yes if you are visiting us in Los Angeles, do stay as long as you wish, we are happy to have you but please dont drink the water!:rotfl:

I agree, SoCal water is kind of funky. When I was a kid, I loved the stuff. Who knows why? Maybe it wasn't as gross? Or when you're a kid you just don't care?

Now, when you turn on the tap, and fill up the glass, the water is a cloudy white color, and then it fades to clear. But still, the water shouldn't be cloudy. Gross.

I drink Arrowhead all day and fill up my water bottle at work. I know Arrowhead is mountain spring and is filtered water that fish spawn in, but it's good! I don't like Dasani or any other water that has "minerals added for taste". Yuck.

I do use the cloudy water to shower and brush my teeth. And when I make tea. And that's about it...

well come on, it aint that bad. I been in socal all my life drinking filtered water from the tap. It aint bad at all.

Yes, apparently all SoCal water comes from a very filtered sewer water that i guess gets filtered OVER and OVER and OVER again. Then again, a lot of the water Disneyland sells comes from filtered tap anyways. :|

I went to school about 6 minutes away from Disneyland. The water would always come out white and cloudy, but I would bottle it and refrigerate it and then it was tolerable, not great, but tolerable. I live an hour away from Disneyland now, and we still don't drink the socal water without filtering it first. There are times I'm putting water in the tub for a bath, and I can smell the chemicals. I might bathe in it, but I wouldn't want to drink it. We usually have bottled water for drinking, and use the tap for all other needs.

When I went to WDW, I had heard how horrible the water was there. I thought it was pretty good. I guess it all depends on what you are used to.

I lived in SoCal for over 25 years and always drank the tap water. Never bothered me at all. I wonder if it would now that I've been away from it for awhile.
I don't think it would because I've asked for ice water at the Disneyland restaurants and it hasn't bothered me and I'm assuming that's tap water. :confused3

Now if you really want to taste bad water, try drinking the Vegas tap water. Ick! It wasn't until we moved here that I finally had to give in to buying bottled water.

I am a wierd-o though Albort :upsidedow ,I can taste it if Dfi uses tap water to make the coffee in the am:surfweb: . But where I am its about 50-50 some drink it some don't. me personally, it tastes like chlorine. Dfi, he can drink it by the gallon and .....nothing!
but no, for most its not so bad. Im just a sensitive girl!:cutie:

Concur.

DW and I prefer reverse-osmosis drinking water at home. Have for years. We still have to wash clothes, dishes, cars, and other items with it and when it dries it just show how "hard (full of minerals) the water" is... who knows what else is in it.

It's better than Central FL's water though! Ugh. That water is just plain nasty.

I grew up with So. Cal water, and it doesn't bother me. The water in MI and IN bother me so much more. We never needed water filters in So. Cal - but definitely do here in the midwest.

Good to know I am not the only one! Usually I don't really care about water taste, but for some reason So Cal water is sooo icky to me!
Perhaps it is just the processing?

Oh, and Molly... I used to work with someone in water treatment. She used to always talk about "sinkers and floaters" when dealing with drinking water processing. I never asked for the details, I did not want to know!

For drinking wise I always stick with bottled. I have a sensitive taste to it because I love water so much, but for gargling I think its completely fine. Then again i'm a native Californian, so I might just be used to it. It might have to do with the fact that we're so close to the ocean compared to other places. :confused3

I live in West LA too:) The water is gross.. it has an orange tint.. well at least to me it does.

I grew up in San Diego and drank tap water there with no problems... well as far as I know I am normal:laughing:

Yeah, our water is rusty huh? I dont know why though. Maybe its because we are close to the beach? NO that doesnt make sense! but yeah it has kind of a rusty color and it definatly isnt clear, its kind of blurry.... ick!:rotfl:

Watched a thing on the Discovery Channel about this (actually, by hubby was watching it and I just got sucked in). Apparently, artesian water is the best you can get. It's fairly rare as there are only so many springs that tap in to the earth that low. My biggest issue with CA water is that it is so hard. We are having to calculate into the cost of a house the addition of a filter and a water softener. They are very popular here and in PX, AZ.
