Smoky Mountains, large rentals. Suggestions?

I'm looking to pick the brains of my fellow DISer's...I'm looking for a large (sleeps 12-16) vacation rental/cabin in the Smoky Mountains-Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge area. It has to be clean, newer (several in our group don't "rough it" at all) and all the comforts of home. We would prefer it allowed pets, but it's not an absolute requirement.

Do you have places you've stayed and enjoyed? Maybe a website that you can direct me to? Any areas that are preferrable for me to look at while shopping around? We've never been there, but are hoping to gather our extended family for a few days this fall and it's a central location for all of us.

Thanks a bunch for any advice or direction!:):teacher:

My extended family has stayed with Volunteer Cabin Rentals in Pigeon Forge several times and has always been very pleased. Large cabins, new construction, nice amenities and far enough out of town to have spectacular mountain views.

I highly recommend Elk Spring Resort. We visited Gatlinburg/ Smoky Mountains last summer and loved it there. The cabin we rented was very clean. The location was nice. We were close to shopping (5 minutes from the grocery store) yet, it seemed so far away. I am definitely renting from them again. They have some very large cabins that are far from roughing it..... Theater room, rain shower, game room, hot tub, fully equipped kitchen, jacuzzi tub, fire place, gas grill on the deck, wifi, etc.

My post count isn't high enough to post links, but their web site is Elkspringsresort dot com.

While I have not stayed here myself, my boss and her family were pleased with the accommodations and enjoyed it very much.

We rented a beautiful cabin from "ERA in the Smokies". We hope to return again someday.

It had all the comforts of home, plus a hot tub and a game room with a pool table and electronic games.

We just got back and we rented with moosecreekcrossing.com
We had 18 people and the cabin was clean, beautiful view, gameroom, 3 levels, plenty of parking, great location and wonderful people to rent from! Have fun!

I'm interested in this topic as well. What would you say is the best time to visit. Fall seems like it would be spectacular for the fall foliage. Is dollywood still open? Is it worth a visit? We have considered visiting the area but wanted to wait until my son was a little older to go zip lining!

http://www.hiddenmountain.com/ has cabins & cottages. The cottages aren't like cabins but I've really enjoyed them. They are near the Apple Barn in Pigeon Forge so are very conveniently located.

We've stayed at a cabin (can't remember the name of the resort) several miles past Dollywood & on a mountain and I thought it was reallly too far away, especially to just run out for a quick meal.

There is something special during each season in Pigeon Forge. I really enjoy going in November for all the Christmas decorations and Christmas shows at Dollywood. Dollywood is open from the end of March until the end of December every year. Dollywood also offers vacation cabins on their website.

Here's a better suggestion: DON'T GO TO GATLINBURG :rotfl2:

Why?
Traffic, pollution (most polluted air of any national park), rampant commercialism, purposeful ignorance (everything spelled with a "c" is spelled with a "k", "Kuntry Kitchen", ugh), ridiculous stereotypes of rural people, ridiculous stereotypes of Native Americans, etc.

It is just a disgusting place.

Sorry, it's been a long time since I rented a cabin and I don't remember who I went through. However, I learned to get specifics on the exact location of the cabin. Our cabin was huge and very nice but sooo far away and up some pretty steep hills - gravel roads and hard to navigate. We were arriving in the dark and almost drove off the mountain because we could not see where we were supposed to be.

I love to visit the area. I have not noticed the pollution but it makes sense since it is the most visited national park. Yea, the commercialism is not always nice but no worse than WI Dells or hundreds of other tourist areas. Once you make it through the traffic to the actual park, it is beautiful.
