My late wife would not sail on a ship without a casino.

But now I am considering it. What is there to offer a single adult man (extra fee)j or an Adult couple of Fans of Disney?

I live twenty minutes from Port Everglades

On my last cruise, there was a solo retired gentleman who had just done 7 back to back cruises on the Wish and was doing a back to back on the Fantasy and was having the time of his life enjoying everything. It is just my wife and I and we do what we want to, the shows, the entertainment at night in the adult section and relax and be a t peace.

All great info above! Also, there's always excursions when in port. Doing a DCL excursion, when traveling alone may be a better option than just venturing out on your own.

And really, any time you spend with fellow cruisers whether it be on an excursion or on the ship, you are bound to strike up conversation. We have met a lot of fun guests (and bartenders) just sitting at the Cove Bar or Currents in the afternoons. :)

My husband and I sail the fantasy a good bit without our adult kids. You can do as much or as little as you want. We do very little. We spend most of our time on deck 13 relaxing, walking on deck 4, having drinks before dinner and listening to live music in the evenings. Lots of adult couples do more - tastings, characters, shows, games. We choose to do very little and it works for us!

I've never sailed solo but my husband and I have done a couple cruises sans children and had a wonderful time. I don't know if this is the same on other cruise lines but I think the amazing cast members onboard Disney would make sailing solo very viable. You can have some great conversations with some of the bartenders, etc. The first four ships also have a very elegant classic ocean liner aesthetic which I personally find adds to the overall enjoyment of the cruise.

I think Disney is very flexible as far as how you want to spend your time - you could just find your favorite spot and hang out, or you can go to lots of activities (which includes stuff like how to draw Disney characters, towel folding, 'anyone can cook', etc). You could get a length of cruise pass to the rainforest room in the spa and go hang out there to your heart's content. The evening shows are mostly Disney stage shows so...that's either a plus or a minus depending on your taste for Disney. But if you're not into the shows, that can also be a great time to go hang out in areas like the rainforest room or adult pool while everyone else is at the show.

The only thing I'll call out is that the ships do tend to get very quiet in the later part of the evening, at least in my experience. Disney does not exactly have a late night party scene - but again, depending on what you're looking for, that could be a plus or a minus.

We sail as 2 adults and some of the things we enjoy as Disney fans are the evening shows, trivia, playing Bingo, finding a quiet spot on the deck with beverage of choice. I could happily spend time lounging with a good book. We also like the evening entertainment geared more toward adults like Match Your Mate. All are things I would enjoy doing solo as well.

But if you have a Disney friend that would enjoy going with you, I say go for it because you're basically paying a double-occupancy rate for the stateroom as a solo.

If it weren’t for my everlasting connection to the Disney company I don’t think that as an adult couple that DCL, up until recently, would have been our only adult cruise line choice. DCL is great but so are some other companies.

My DH and I are sailing out of NYC in less than a month on our 5th cruise by ourselves.

I would not hesitate to go solo! As mentioned above, there is so much to do on the ship. plus excursions!

I hope you do it and have a wonderful time.

My young adult kids+ 35 yr old niece loved DCL and were out until at least midnight each night. It's not a "party" scene, but all 5 of them had a great time late night. As you live so close, and are FL resident, why not take advantage of a last minute FL resident fare and try a 4 or 5 night either from FLL, Miami, or drive a couple hours up to PtC to see how you like it?

Yes, I love DCL as I am NOT a late night partier, and for all the other wonderful reasons we agree upon . . .
But if I were soloing, I might also investigate what Gary Bembridge (and his U-tube videos) suggest.

I agree Gary's "Tips for Travellers" YouTube is a wealth of information for all cruisers, especially solo. Gary was not pleased with his only DCL cruise because, as he plainly explains, he's not a Disney person, didn't understand the Disney Broadway shows, and missed so much of the magic that is all around you on the ship. We love DCL (Platinum).

Yes, I saw that and took it w. a couple of grains of salt. He likes what he likes; and I (we) like what I (we) like.

I think I saw the same video. If the premise is, 'Should a solo adult who doesn't care about Disney sail DCL?', the answer is probably no, because I'm sure there are other cruise lines with more to offer. But if you are a solo adult or adult pair who *does* like Disney, then I absolutely think it's worth considering. The Cruising with Ben & David youtube channel does a great job showing how enjoyable the childless adult experience can be on DCL.
