SHADES OF GREEN at Walt Disney World Resort Information & Questions

Getting this error message for our stay. It shows our resort reservation on the main screen, but this is what I get when I click on it.

Question — we’re arriving early and plan to do early entry at MK before checkin into SoG. How do I prove to the CM we’re staying at SoG when I’m getting this error message?

That error is normal for the app with SOG.

Are you using magic bands? Since your SOG is linked, you can scan your band at the tapstyles. SOG will also give you a paper pass which you can also present at the gate if you're able to stop by there first.

Ok thank you!! We won’t have magic bands, but I think magic mobile in our iPhone wallet will suffice? I remember last year for extended hours we had to show CMs our resort details page, hence my concern (because it won’t load).

Oh that's a good thought!! We've never used that before. If it shows the resort. I'd imagine that'll work?

(That detail page on resorts has never worked for me for SOG , only if we're staying at a wdw resort)

Hi Everyone, first post here!

My wife and I are starting to plan a trip with our just-under-2-year-old and grandparents for the last week of April 2023. Our family has access to SOG, but I'm a little concerned about buses and transportation to the parks after doing some reading online about them. The walk to Poly monorail seems pleasant, but I keep thinking it will become one of those things that could become a trudge and detract from the trip.

Are Minnie Vans picking up from SOG again now that they have returned? I searched this thread but only found info from pre-pandemic dates. If they are that seems like an ideal solution for on-demand transportation.

I'm kind of worrying myself into looking at Contemporary at this point to be a short walk or monorail to MK where we will probably spend most of our time. Cost will obviously rise substantially over SOG but I'm the kind of person that if there is something I could have done in advance to avoid a problem it will gnaw at me if I don't take care of it! Thankfully we could afford it but if I am blowing this out of proportion then we would prefer to stay at SOG and save some money.

Basically I'm looking for some reassurance, or words of caution, about getting to and from the parks from SOG with a stroller, youngster and some grandparents in tow. Thanks in advance if you have any inputs!
My wife and I stayed at Shades in April during busy Spring Break season.

We have many years staying at WDW resorts and using the Disney bus system. I was very worried about the SOG busses after some of the reviews I read on this page and around the internet. Well, Let me tell you we were very pleasantly surprised by the SOG transportation. The Magic Kingdom and Epcot bus dropped us off at the Transportation Center which is a very short walk to the monorail entrance. The monorail then takes you right to the park and drops you off by either park entrance, usually closer than where the busses at other resorts drop you off. We got a bus schedule at check in and then pretty much had the same bus drivers each day. The drivers were great at telling you when the busses run and reminding you where they pick up. We found the Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom buses to be great as well. At Animal Kingdom they drop off and pick up at a nice covered pavilion with benches that we found to be a pretty short walk. Those two parks do share a bus so if you are tying to be the first one in line at Animal Kingdom 1 hour before the park opens, you may get delayed a bit.

Overall, we highly recommend the Shades buses. We saw lots of people using strollers with no issues. It's also a short walk over to the Poly where you can use WDW transportation if you'd like.

I would have no hesitation, at all, about staying at Shades.

About to change my Oct reservation from AKL to SOG. Giving up a 2 bedroom for 2 standard rooms at SOG but the savings are to significant to ignore for this particular trip. A few questions:
-Wondering if there is a cancelation list for the suites over at Shades?
-Are all the rooms carpeted? Stayed there is 2016 and 2019 but wondering if there were any remodels that included removing the carpets since 2019.
-Are any of the standard rooms connecting? If so, can I put this request in ahead of time?
-I have dining reservations already set. What's the best way to make sure they stick when I cancel AKL to add SOG?

TIA!

There are standard connecting rooms - we have usually had an easy time of this when we asked and have even gotten them when we needed just one room. I think they are pretty plentiful(?)

The suites are tough to get even a year out, IMO you'd be really lucky to snag a suite at this late time. Not saying it's not doable, but SOG does offer waiting lists if you ask for it. In my luck with standard rooms, I've found availability before they've contacted me though.

Rooms are hit and miss with carpeting and, to be honest, I haven't paid much attention to where in the resort. Lately, we've been getting carpets but we've been in the Magnolia wing primarily the last 2 years, but I want to say we had a room minus the carpets in the Palm wing? Maybe Magnolia at some point too?

You can put a connecting room request when you book your room online, there is a space to add requests. Or you can ask them over the phone as well.

Not sure if your ADRs will fall off the reservation? Maybe someone else knows for sure. I do know that if you edit your SOG reservation and sometimes for no reason at all, the SOG reservation just falls off MDE. *Most* of the time you can just add it back on, but sometimes need to call Disney's IT. I recommend checking frequently within the upcoming weeks of your trip. I had to add mine back last month after I added a day to my reservation.

Happy planning! We love Shades and are headed there next week.

@ Leigh L, thank you for all the info! I was able to call and add the request for connecting rooms to the reservations. I asked about a suite cancelation list, the agent did say they didn't have one but to keep checking back about 30 days out. I think she said there were only 12 in total so they do book quickly. I also asked about the carpeting and she said all the rooms are carpet. I do skeeve carpet but it's not a deal breaker. I'll wear flip flops like I always do in hotel rooms.

I loaded my SOG reservation numbers onto MDE before calling to cancel AKL. I was a little surprised I was able to do it without an issue. I thought maybe MDE would reject the SOG reservation since there were already ones there but no issues. Also the dining reservations stayed no problem. I wrote down all the times and confirmation numbers ahead of time to be prepared to speak to dining but didn't need to. Overall it went smoothly.

Now I just need to load the park tickets and make those reservations, order some fun Halloween shirts and tell the kids to pack their suitcases! Can't wait!

Enjoy your trip next week. Feel free to report back any cool findings 😊

@Neverbeast, if you happen to be in the exchange can you see if they have this coffee? Screenshot_20220904-142929_Chrome.jpg

Also speaking of coffee, the machines in the room, can I bring my own coffee and filters to use in them or can they only be used with those pods supplied? TIA!

love to hear your thoughts on the restaurants if you eat there
We got pizza and fried rice tonight from the little grab and go area by the registration and thought they were solid. Not anything I’d go out of my way for but legit satisfying and we happily ate it all.

I think we’re doing either garden grill or manginos for lunch tomorrow- will report back.

They did not have that coffee tonight but the desk staff said they have had it sometimes. (Sorry that’s probably very unhelpful)

I think you have to use their pods, it looks like the round circle tea bag kind, not a k cup style.

Breakfast at Garden Gallery- really nice! Great service. Tons of choices. Mickey waffles and breakfast meats etc all tastes the same as the parks- maybe they all use the same food supply? So if you like that you’ll like this. Fruit was really good, not just soggy melon, actual good berries. They have a neat make your own sandwich set up to make to go sandwiches that is really impressing my step-dad lol.

Did you change because SoG was previously booked but opened up? Did that happen around the 30 day cancellation mark?

Did you change because SoG was previously booked but opened up? Did that happen around the 30 day cancellation mark?

Long story short the original trip was supposed to be for longer with rest/resort days built in so for that I like a 2 bedroom (for the kitchen, laundry, extra bathrooms etc) and a suite- or any category for that matter- wasn't available at SoG. I checked online and called periodically but everything was always booked up. The trip changed shape a bit and we're only dropping in for a few park heavy days now so I checked SoG online and a standard room popped up but when I went to book it said unavailable so I called right away and the agent said she had 2 standards available so I grabbed them. This was just this past week so roughly 55 days out. Not a short story after all lol but the moral is to keep checking and calling because online isn't always accurate.

@Neverbeast, thank you for checking about the coffee cans. That was super kind of you to ask the staff as well. I did some research on the in room coffee maker and it is some kind of pod thingy. Looks like the coffee on site will be the go to for a few days. Great to hear about Garden Gallery being a solid choice. My dad always enjoys it there so he'll be happy to fill up.

We had Evergreen's for lunch and thought it was okay for a pool bar. My Rueben was good and the shrimp tacos were ok. Our wings and Cuban sandwich were fine but meh. Kids grilled cheese looked crappy but they happily ate it? Swimming makes you hungry I guess!

Don't know if I am allowed to start this thread since I am not "official Shades staff," but thought I would give it a try since the last thread is now closed. I just copied and pasted this info from the first page of the last thread so we could continue our discussions with our Shades family.
