Seven Mile Beach or Rum Beach??

Not sure about Rum Point, but I do know it is farther away from the pier and I am not sure of what amenities are offered.

Seven Mile beach is pretty close by and has everything you need. Chairs, umbrellas, food, drinks, sand, outdoor showers, water sports rentals, etc. $4 per person to take a cab to Sea Grape or Courtyard Beach.

I have been to both. I personally liked Rum Point better, but that was before Hurricane Ivan and I don't know if they have recuperated yet. When we went to Rum Point, we rented a car through www.grandcaymancruiseexcursions.com. It was really cheap and we were able to explore the island as well. While at Rum Point we did the stingray snorkel with Red Sail Sports which is about a 2hour snorkel excursion on a glass bottom boat. Only about 20 people on board. Rum Point is about 45 minutes away from the pier, so no cruisers. But wonderfully quiet and peaceful.

I did like 7 mile..we went to Sea Grape Beach there on our 2nd trip. Nice beach, but a little more crowded.

Where else did you go? My wife and I are doing the same thing, renting a car to see the island. I was thinking Pedro St. James and maybe Tortuga, if only to say we went there (the wife's a big Pirates of the Caribbean fan). When did you go? How was traffic?

Hey Paully Wog! I almost left you a msg at the beach vendor but figured you'd never get it!

Ok, well the first time we went to GC was in Jan 04. It was then we rented the cheapest car from the website above. It was $30 or thereabouts for the day and no need to refill on gas. You walk about 2 blocks from the pier to the right to the blue iguana, and avis picks you up in a minivan and takes you near the airport for car rental pickup. It was about a 10 minute drive. We were last off the van so last in line, but it didn't take long. Sometimes being last pays off....they ran out of the cheapest car so upgraded us for free to a black jeep! Woohoo! And we were off.

We did what is basically called the East End Tour. We drove the long way around GC to rum point which took about an hour. We saw the blowholes, the wreck of 10 sails, and some gorgeous scenery. When we got to rum point it was about 10 am. We laid out on the beach and enjoyed some sun/water fun for about an hour. Then, at 11, we took a Stingray Snorkel with Red Sail ($35pp I think). This location is much closer to Stingray Sandbar (about 15 minutes by water) instead of the one hour ride with the excursions from Georgetown. We had great time snorkeling with the stingrays, holding and feeding them. We also went out to a reef and snorkeled. Awesome. DH even saw an eel. When we were done, we hung out on Rum Point for another 45 minutes or so....this place had some outdoor shops/cafes, very nice. There was also a nice restroom with showers to clean up if you like. We then drove back the short way to Georgetown (30 minutes)...traffic not bad at all & turned in the car. Avis took us back downtown where we shopped for some souvenirs and rum cake before boarding. An awesome awesome trip.

Our 2nd trip to GC was in Jan 05. We had planned to rent a car again and see the turtle farm, snorkel some on our own at cemetary reef, but due to Ivan, they had a shortage of cars. WE couldn't get one. So, we opted to take a taxi to SeaGrape Beach. It was a very nice beach, though the water was a little steeper than at Rum Point. And, a little more crowded. We rented chair/umbrella for like $10-15 (I can't remember exactly now), plus you get 1 free soda/water. We enjoyed swimming here, but not much to see in the way of snorkeling. It was sad to see the island side still ravaged from Ivan, but the beaches and ocean were still picture perfect gorgeous. There was a beach bar that we ate some mahi mahi and conch fritters for around $15.

Whatever you do, I'm sure it'll be fun. GC is a great island with lots to offer.

I sent you a PM regarding east end tour in cayman. I had a bunch of questions about it.

I have only done the Seven Mile Beach and loved it. The beach was beautiful, the snorkeling from the shore was great, and the food was very good!!!
