I searched the recent threads but didn't see this topic so my apologies if this is already been addressed.

A friend of mine was recently at 2 of the resorts (the All Star and another one) and said that she had to pull up in her car to a certain point so her photo could be taken.

Has anyone else had this experience? Does anyone know WHY they are taking people's photos and what they do with them? Though obviously everyone is under some form of surveillance, having a picture taken and presumably stored ruffles my beliefs in privacy.

On a surveillance camera, your moving image is anonymous and not necessarily associated with something to index you to another form of identity - such as a license plate number.

I understand that many people will consider this a reasonable request that enhances security. But I am one of those people who consider things to be reasonable only if I know why they are being done in the first place.

I appreciate anyone who has insight or a good theory on what our pictures are being used for.

I haven't heard of that but I know in the past if you did not have a resort pass, they would write down the license # of the car.

I have to say that I'm extremely skeptical about this. It would take about one day for this to get reported in the press, local or national, and WDW would be dealing with a black eye in my opinion.

I'd theorize that your friend misunderstood the CM when she was asked for photo ID, which as we all know is SOP.

And I've certainly never experienced anything like this in my countless resort visits.

I know when you arrive ata resort they ask for a photo ID if you don't already have a room key. No photo though.

Hmmm... have never of anything like this, at All Stars or any other property.

Maybe if your friend is exceptionally pretty, and the guards are very bored... LOL.

Most likely that were telling her to pull out of the traffic lane so they could check a photo ID - pretty standard stuff, if you are visiting a hotel where you have not yet checked in or if you are staying elsewhere and visiting a hotel.

I suppose there could have been a heightened state of security for some reason or other resulting n some temporary measure, but it's hard to believe there would be no explanation in this case. Having a photo taken every time you go to a hotel would be pretty drastically intrusive, and with their surveillance systems, they would have a visual record already anyway. My guess is a misunderstanding.

it always surprises me that they do check photo id. i don't see the point when, if you so want, you could just hop any bus going to any resort and no one knows or cares.
it just kind of seems stupid imo.

I'm guessing they do it to prevent thefts. It's a lot harder to carry stolen items onto a bus packed with people versus into your own car.

but what i'm thinking is.....lets say i want to steal your car. easy peasy. i'll have my other theif friend drop me off at dtd, hop the bus to animal kingdom lodge (they have good cars there right??) then its into the parking lot to go car shopping. hot-wire, back out the gate on my way home. no one stops you on the way out to check id.
nobody knows i was there. even if there are cameras, i'm long gone and the point of checking id going in seems like a waste of time.
just to be clear, i am not, nor have i ever been, a car thief or stolen anything. just playing devils advocate. :rolleyes1
honest. lol
