Sears $29.95 mini fridge runs on car battery ~ Save $10 a day at resorts!

I just ordered one of these from Sears to take on car trips ~ especially to WDW.

Now, it's doesn't look very big!!
But it says it holds two 2-liter bottles and all we need is a place to put milk & OJ and a few snacks for the kids. The closest thing I could find like it was about $67 at Walmart.

Runs on 12 volt power from the car's cigarette lighter. It's just what we need with 2 little ones and a 12-hour drive!!

This fridge might be okay for storing sodas but I'd be wary of using it for milk and other dairy products. The safe storage temperature for milk, cheese & butter is 38-40ºF. This fridge doesn't get that cold.

Make sure NOT to leave it plugged in when you park your car. We did that with a TV we used to plug in our old van -- the valet who got our car started with jumper cables got a big tip.

We don't have the exact one you ordered, but we use a mini fridge nightly. We took it last year to Disney. Every morning security jumped our van off because every night we forgot to unplug it. We put milk in ours every night for the baby. We have a two story house and this way we don't have to run downstairs when he wakes up. It keeps the milk nice and cold. I would not hesitate to put milk in it.

Have you taken a temp on the milk? If it is over 40 degrees for an extended period of time it is growing bacteria. They do look useful for soda, bottled water, juice boxes, etc. But I too would hesitate to use it for dairy or meat products.

No. I have never taken the temperature of the milk. The bottles are ice cold.

A bottle that feels "ice cold" isn't necessarily a sign that your fridge is keeping perishables at a safe temperature. Anything holding liquid under 50 degrees F in Florida would feel "ice cold." I wouldn't use such an appliance if the health and safety of my child was at stake. I believe that a child's health is well worth the $10/night for the cost of renting a fridge at WDW.

I agree. I work in a kitchen. Something can feel very cold or very hot, but it may not be cold or hot enough to be out of the danger zone. I wouldn't want to risk getting sick on vacation, or any other time.

If you are staying in a moderate or deluxe WDW resort, they are in the process of putting refrigerators in all rooms. Ask over on the Resort Board, I'm sure someone can give more info.
