We started Aug. 12 and will get out the Friday before Memorial Day in May. Here the kids have at least 1 day a month off due to teacher inservice days. They are off Labor day plus 2 more days in September. Oct. they get 2 days for parent/ teacher conferences. Nov. has a teacher inservice the day before Thanksgiving so the kids have a 5 day weekend. 2 weeks at Christmas/ New Year's, Semester break day, M.L.King Day in Jan. President's Day and 2 days for P/T conferences in Feb. Spring break is 1 week in March then 1 day in late April/early May which is a teacher work day. They also just added 25 minutes to our day so elementary goes from 8:50-4:05. They get 30 minutes for recess AND lunch (10 minute recess,20 minutes lunch) K-1 gets another 15 minute recess. We usually have 4-5 snow days built in. Our state goes by how many hours or minutes are in the school year not days so if we go over they figure out how many minutes we need and they will add a few minutes to the beginning or end of the day or take an inservice day to make up the time.
