Can you recommend your favorites from San Angel Inn? I am surprising my family with a mini trip to WDW in Oct for MNSSHP. We are also going to spend a little time in Epcot, and we have never tried San Angel Inn before and we all love Mexican food so I had to try it. What are your favorites there?

One more thing...how are the portion sizes? Is this a meal you want to go in "HUNGRY" to, or is this a lighter meal?

The only thing I've ever gotten there (we've eaten there 3 or 4 times, now) is the Mole Poblano. I absolutely love it.

I like the chicken nachos and the plato mexicano.

San Angel Inn is one of my favorites at Epcot! (Although it sometimes gets a bad wrap on these boards. I for one really like it.) Enjoy!

Every place gets a bad wrap on here at one time or another. I don't mind knowing the reviews but I still want to make my own opinion...

Keep the favorites coming!!!

I ate there Monday for lunch. Had the ceviche for an appetizer. It was a delicious seafood dish. Then, enjoyed the Mexican salad. My husband had the corn chowder and fish tacos--liked both.

I loved the chicken nachos and my DH loved the plato mexicano. And I would definitely say both servings were a lot of food. Enjoy!

Tried this restaurant for the first time on Cinco de Mayo. Loved the atmosphere, the music the ride. We had a late lunch there despite previous posts about eating at San Angel Inn. IMHO the drinks were good. Service was good, the server was a pleasant person. The Sopa Azteca was very good. DH had Sope Traditional and liked it. However, the Mole Poblano which is grilled chicken was not so good. The chicken was tough. :confused3 . Not giving this place a bad wrap. Just an honest opinion. Doesn't mean I won't try this place again. Just that I'll order something different.

I LOVE the ceviche, appetizer-seafood, cilantro and lime juice, was soooo refreshing. We always have a great time in this beautiful establishment! Muy Bien!

Hope it's not too much info, but here is my review from our last visit-
Supper at San Angel Mexican Cuisine

There were people waiting when we arrived, So we thought we would ride Rio de Tiempo while we waited. There was a rope up and the young cast members advised that it was closed for a while. I said “Que' lastima!” (probably a bit dramatic for the situation, but I rarely get to use my Junior High Spanish:) Roughly traslated “What a shame!” They laughed and repeated the phrase, agreeing, “si, que lastima!” We looked through the marketplace to take time, and (apologies regarding another thread on the Theme Parks Board) had pictures taken wearing the sombreros. Bought a few items and chatted with a cast member Mark who has worked there for 15 years. Great job Mark!

We were seated in the little lower level near the Restrooms (always a good plan near the end of the day) Jorge is our server, and we enthusiastically greeted him with our Hola's and Buenos Tardes'. He made as if he was impressed then asked how much of our high school Spanish we remembered. (Check the first post, high school was a LONGGG time ago). The rest of the group had already used up their phrases, but I bravely offered that “Louisa had a cold, and I hoped she would be better soon!” He exclaimed “Muy Bien!!” and asked me if I could count to 15 en espanol. I did, and without a blink, he said “Now do it backwards!” I did, while my group gaped at me open mouthed. (When I'm tired, there are days I couldn't count to 15 in English) They were so impressed, It made DCH journal in Caps!!! If only I could use my powers for good... Anyway,

Appetizers Sope, Sopa, and 2 Ceviche
Sope Tradicional - grilled soft corn shell filled with chicken and refried beans, covered with fresh green tomato sauce, fresh cheese and onions, served over a bed of lettuce
Sopa Azteca - Traditional tortilla soup with avocado, cheese and pasilla pepper-Very nice!
Ceviche - Seafood marinated in lime juice with tomatoes, chiles, onions and cilantro- This was my very favorite appetizer at Christmas and I have been thinking about it ever since. The fresh seafood is marinated in the lime juice, so it is the acid that actually cooks it. It is served cold and is very refreshing. Sure you east and west coasters get it all the time, but not much great seafood here on the plains.
Entrees
Filete Motuleno - Grilled beef tenderloin over black beans and melted cheese, sauce ranchero, poblano pepper strips and grilled plantains- very nice, loved the plantains, again, big cheese fans!
(grilled tenderloin w camerones y poloys y chayotes y arroz)
Combinacion Cozumel - Grilled beef tenderloin, marinated shrimp and roasted chayote served with spicy ranchero sauce, poblano pepper mashed potatoes and grilled vegetable
pollo las rajas- Grilled chicken breast served over red peppers, onions, chile poblano, chorizo and melted cheese

Desserts:
2 Flan de Vanilla - vanilla custard in syrup, topped with roasted almonds Nice, smooth, think Mexican crème brullee :)
Capirotada de Chocolate Blanco - white chocolate and golden raisin bread pudding served with Mexican milk caramel - I am not a huge bread pudding fan (too much milk toast as a child) But this was very good, if you Like bread pudding, I'm betting it's excellent!
Arroz con Leche - rice pudding with raisins and cinnamon, done very well!
Jorge was attentive, the place was packed, and we enjoyed the beautiful dishes and glasses in this restaurant. The sky is lovely, and even though we were on the side, think it felt like we had a little more space than up in the main area.

NOT a big fan of this one. I have the Camerones Con Fideos. Shrimp was really good...pasta was really cold and very much like canned spaghetti. DH had the Combinacion Cozumel and didn't have any complaints. DD had something off the children's menu (nachos?) that she wouldn't even touch. The margaritas were a little disappointing :( The best part of the place was the atmosphere. It really is quite cute in there.

When I don't want to leave too full, I get the Sopa traditonal and the sope azteca. both of these are very good.

I just ate there on Cinco de Mayo -- Sopa Azteca, Sope, salad.
My recommendation is to ask for some hot salsa when they bring out the chips. Apparently the default is to just put a couple of cups of mild stuff in the cups in the holder. The "hot" was more of a medium, though. I don't know if they were holding back any stronger stuff from me.

the atmosphere can't be beat but the food IMHO isn't that great :sad2:

I come from Colorado where there are tons of great mexican restaurants
around every corner. The food here in comparison is not good.

If you live in the southwestern part of the United States I say skip it since there are much better places probably in your home town. If you live in a place that doen't have any mexican restaurants than go for it.

Its a lighter meal for me, but I think its only because of what I get.
I always get the Sope Tradicional (sp?) and its sort of small but its the most delicious thing I've ever had in my life and I'm craving one right now!
My mother always says that she leaves stuffed because she gets like a real entree. I think the sope may be an appetizer although I can't remember.
So, it just depends on what you order!
:goodvibes

Ceviche appetizer and Mole Poblano! :thumbsup2

(And several magaritas with a sugar rim from the stand out front......)

My favorite is the Filete Motuleno! The beef is sooooo tender, that it melts in your mouth! It is also quite a big portion.

The ceviche appetizer is a big fat yum. And I get the Combinacion Cozumel the beef and shrimp are very good as well as the pepper mashed potatoes. The Arroz Con Lech is pretty good but I think I am going to try the white chocolate bread pudding this time when we go. Oh and try the Fiesta Margarita !

Blessed Be,
Tina
