Sailing w/dizziness

Although I have cruised 4x before & never had a problem with dizziness, this past year I have recurring bouts of dizziness - on land - for no apparent reason that I can figure out.
Just curious - read somewhere a quick mention of bringing alcohol swabs to sniff to take care of this after being on a ride.
Does anyone know if this will work on the ship? If not, what else do you recommend? Thank you!:D

dclwdwlover... My concern is what is causing your dizziness. Do you have the time to have the doctor check you out before you go? Maybe they will need to run a battery of tests to try and get to the route of it first before you try these "quick fixes" for the trip. I just want you to enjoy your trip to the fullest, and it may be your blood pressure being high, inner ear problem, or something that they can treat you for before you leave. I know your time is close, but if there are meds you need, it will be best to get this done before you leave. Sorry I couldn't answer your original question, but please check into this.

I agree with Incharge, you really need to see a doctor to find out the cause of the dizziness.

I have chronic eustachian tube problems that can cause dizziness from time to time (my doctor told me I really shouldn't FLY, but there is no way I'm going to give up flying). I have strong antihistimines and decongestant steroid sprays to use for several weeks before flying to help prevent problems when flying.

Good luck, I hope you can pinpoint the cause and get some help!

I have labrynthitis (constant state of motion sickness). We just got off the 9/13 magic (first cruise). I had no problems at all.

I would suggest you see a doctor also to make sure there is nothing serious wrong before you leave.

I had the labrynthitis about two years ago. What a terrible feeling. Thought I was having a heart attack. Anyway doc put me on meclizine (for the motion sickness) . Helped but made me very tired. Felt great for about four months and it came back. Ended up haing a tub put in my ear and I have felt great for 5 months. Went back to the doc and know they said something about crystals?
We cruise on 10/2 and am hoping that I'm not so dizzy that I get sick. He said when I fly my one ear would be fine with no pain because the tube acts like an open window so no pressure. Almost wanted to ask him to put a tube in the other ear.
I read on the boards about getting the vicks inhaler. I used it on our a flight we took 2 years ago and it help soooo much. I used it about an hour before take off and then about 15 minutes before landing.
I have used the pressure point wrist bands and seemed to help.
