It's what seperates the men from the boys to know when and where to say no, and to, here's a concept, operate within the confines of a real BUDGET, like ordinary folks have too. Gosh I wish I could operate like the govt.
Honey we need to go to WDW, ok, no prob., honey we need a new rolls, no prob., honey we need a 7500 sq ft house instead of a 5500 one, no prob. well just spend more.
Real follks can't do that, but it seems like everytime it comes up for a new tax increase, the govt always needs MORE, and can't cut in other areas to fund the particular pet project of the day. Both state, local and fed govt that's all I hear all day long, need more need more need more, feed the monster. It's not monopoly money we're dealing with but tax payer money. Eventually there will be a limit and/or a collapse.
And by the way, I'm not saying Bush and the current Rep haven't been among the worst in this area, they are spend spend spend, worry about how we pay for it later. That's why I don't know why you hyper libs don't love this crop. They are pretty much for funding everything, except this issue I guess.
And by the way I agree on stem cell research as far as the private sector, it is a great area that I hope goes far. I'm just not sure if it would help ANY to get the govt involved. Usually that may even slow the research up, cause now you'd be dealing with govt bureacrats, red tape, can't fund this but can fund that. You'll probably get further with the research to leave the govt out of it altogether.
But the thing is , if it is private sector who finances it , they are the one who are going to decide what they do with there find. If theyfind something , but think that let say , china is going to be abetter market for them , so it's China !
The private sector is obviously in it for the money. You just have to look at what happens to AIDS medecine: the pharmaseutical companies have medecine that can trully help people and give them a better life. Africa is poor and many countries dont have the money to buy the medecine , but since the big pharma are in it for the money , they dont lower the price for countries that really need the medecine. If it would be a governement who would have found the treatment , it would be this governement who decides how much to charge for these medecine , and since a governement is not supposed to be in it for the money , they can accept a smaller profit on the medecine. All this is of course over simplified , I know , but for me , the health of the citizen of a country is more important than the profits for a multinational company. A governement who does not take care of it's people is irresponsible: the healthier citizen are , the more productive and happy they are , and that runs the economy a lot better than citizens who cannot afford healthcare. ( and no , our "socialist healthcare is not perfect here in canada)
So I think that governement should help fund health researche.
