Roller coasters and eyeglasses ?

I've never taken my glasses or sunglasses on roller coasters, and we go to Cedar Point frequently. They've never said anything to me.

There's only one real threat when it comes to glasses on a coaster: looking to the side. If you keep facing forward and avoid banging your head against any shoulder restraint, it shouldn't be a problem. I'm 48 and have worn glasses since I was 12 and haven't taken them off on coasters since college. That includes WDW as well as Six Flags.

I've had less coaster experience, but my experience has mirrored yours.

Not a single problem with inversions or corkscrews from Ca Screamin' or Rock'nRoller Coaster, and I went on Dragon Challenge at Universal with no problems.

But YES, if you don't face forward, then there can be problems and nervousness.

Now, I did take them off for Rip Ride Rockit at Universal, but that's b/c I was scared. My eyes aren't that bad anyway, so it was more for the sake of my mind, LOL.

But do you go on the Drag Racing Coaster and Melennium Force? I remember them patrolling the aisles telling everyone to remove the glasses and selling the Cedar Point croakies in the aisle if you could not put them in a zippered pocket.

Other coasters- not so much but definetely these guys.

I can't see my own hand in front of me without my glasses on, so I just keep them on! I have several pairs of glasses...one of them is a little tight around the ears, so I usually wear those :thumbsup2. I would suggest maybe getting those croakies, it seems to work for anyone I've talked to.

I always refused to wear those eyeglass straps. Last summer I was at Cedar Point and again refused to buy them. I would hold my glasses in my hands. Then we went on Top Thrill Dragster. Well..there was no way I was holding them in my hands...my hands would be too busy gripping the bars!!!

The first time I tucked them securely in my bra. It was fine. I WAS worried the bars would somehow crush them though - I can see how it could happen easily.

The 2nd trip I did Dragster again and did the same thing, tucked them in my bra. For whatever reason, this time, they flew out during the ride. I spent the day at Cedar Point pretty much blind LOL! My vision is pretty bad (-5.0) so I can make out colors and shapes. I had to tell my group to be really careful to stay near me so I could keep them in sight. If they went off too far ahead, I had a hard time finding them again. And when we ate at the buffet, it was a riot! I had to get my DD to escort me up and tell me what each dish was as I couldn't see the food without getting too up close and personal!

I recovered my glasses in another trip several weeks later. They have them tagged by date and recover about 30 pairs of glasses a day.

Moral of the story? The straps really do work. They were $1.99 at Cedar Point. I bought them and they're a great souvenir. We've used them multiple times since and they were well worth it.

Also, those small crossbody bags are nice. It all depends what park your DD is going to. I recommend checking to see if there are any rides that DON'T allow bags on. Like PPs have mentioned Cedar Point has several rides like that (with no spot to put your bags) and so does Universal Studios. I bring a very small crossbody bag and for those rides, I would wear the bag under my shirt. It worked well, and I never had any problems being allowed to do so. If I had cargo shorts or something like that, it would be a better alternative. But most of my clothes don't have pockets.

I've done them all multiple times and wear glasses. I use a eyeglass case that snaps shut and have a clip on it that I attach to my bra strap and tuck inside my shirt. That way if it flies out, it ain't going anywhere. I take them off and tuck them before I board.

I've worn glasses since I was about 10 years old and always take them off when I go on inverting coasters. Regular coasters, no, but inverting? Oh yes. I lost my glasses once in a river when I was 11 and my parents were furious with me because we didn't really have the money to get new ones, even though we obviously had to get them. Now, I take them off because I don't have insurance and can't afford to pay for new glasses if I lose them.

I've never lost a pair of glasses on a coaster, but a wave pool is another story. Bye bye a pair of Rx Oakleys into typhoon's filters.... (that was my friend's).

I usually take them off if it's the first time riding a new coaster, like the Manta. Now I'm fine with leaving them on.

If she just got them, she's probably comfortable without them on. I'm blind as a bat, and prefer them on.

Cargo shorts are handy for multiple reasons. Change is another major thing lost on rides. I've had that fall out of my pockets on multiple occasions. Also good for cell phone and anything else she doesn't feel comfortable leaving unattended. Purses and bags are a bad idea for coaster riding days. It just creates more hassle.

I'd send her with $30 on a visa gift card (keep a copy of the card number at home) so she can buy food, cell if she needs/has one, and ID if school requires it.

Travelling light makes the day go a lot easier. And she wont have to step away from the group to find a locker for every ride.

i used to have a camera bag that fits my glasses perfectly. I usually strap it to belt or use the belt loop.

now i just hold onto my glasses, or put it in my pocket but id hold down my pocket.

I've worn glasses for close to 50 years now. Yes, I have taken them off on certain coasters...but that's to prevent me from seeing what is going on!!! Now, I keep them on. Kept them on for Dragon Challenge and Hulk..no problems at all. But, it does help to wear the 'old lady' strings for glasses...that way if the glasses get nudged, they aren't going anywhere.

I've worn glasses for 30 years and have never taken them off for a roller coaster. In fact, I never even thought about it until this thread.

I agree with others about putting them on some type of cord that goes around the neck. Back in the day when I went to amusement parks (Great America by me) I would use something like the picture I posted. When I got on the ride I would tuck the glasses under my shirt so I wouldn‘t lose them.

I bought a strap at WalMart and that's what I use for upside-down coasters, like Rn'R. I also carry the glasses from my previous prescription and use those for all shaky coasters like Big Thunder. I can see out of them well enough and I don't lose my good glasses. I'm going to WDW in December, so when I get new glasses in September I'll put the ones I'm wearing now in a case with the strap.

I wear contacts to amusement parks when I can, but if I wear glasses I take them off before every big ride and I take a small purse or mini back pack and have my glasses case in there. If I can’t take my bag on a ride I buy a locker and use a friend or family member to guide me to the ride cuz I’m quite blind without my glasses haha

I don’t do roller coasters but the strap keeps my glasses in place when I workout image.jpg

I wear glasses. Everything at WDW is fine with my glasses. Waterparks I put my contacts in. Have a upcoming September trip for Universal. I bought a eyeglass strap for that trip. Would wear my contacts but I can’t read my phone. My glasses are bifocals but contacts are still single lens. I don’t use the contacts super often because I can’t wear them at my work so I didn’t update them when I updated my glasses.

Zombie thread!!! Spooky!!!
But yeah. I wear my glasses on everything, I use croakies (I think is how it's spelled?) or some sort of strap to keep them firmly on my head. :)

I used to always take off my glasses if I went on rollercoasters. I would wear cargo shorts with pockets that had zips a little lower on the leg where I would keep a case for my glasses.

I was pretty nervous about keeping them on for my trip to WDW two years ago and I used those strings to keep them from flying off my head if they did fall off. But since watching a lot of Disney vloggers keeping their sunglasses on on all kinds of coasters without them falling off I kept them on during my last DLP trip and had little fear of them falling off. My glasses really don't fall off easily at all, especially the ones I have with nosepads. As long as I don't hold my glasses and yank them off myself on a ride, they'll stay on fine.
