Rock On!! Because Devil Horns Do Belong at Disney. An Oct TR Updated 9/5 x10!

When we were heading to TSM that morning, Jim saw One Man’s Dream and asked what it was. He mentioned several times that he wouldn’t mind going in there so that’s where we headed next. I let Jim set the pace because I’ve been in there several times. He moved pretty quickly through the displays because he’s not much of a reader. I just followed along, occasionally taking pictures.

Love that dog!

Jim offered to break into this case so I could take Pluto home with me but I really didn’t want to be banned from Disney for life so I told him he didn’t need to do that.

If I had a big enough house, I would so have a Dumbo car hanging from my ceiling.

Since Peter Pan was closed while we were there, I took a picture of the model instead.

Naked Lincoln always freaks me out a bit.

Jim wanted to see the movie at the end and surprisingly I’ve never seen it myself. Even though I knew most of the information in the movie it was really interesting and Jim liked it too because he is a bit of a history buff. Walt’s story is just so fascinating.

When we exited the theater we were right near the Animation building. I was thoroughly enjoying the time out of the hot sun so I suggested an animation class to Jim. He was game so we headed in. I think we must have just missed the 3:00 pm class because we sat for a while on the comfy benches outside of the class. I didn’t mind, it felt good to slow down and relax in the air conditioning. Jim did check out all the meet and greets in the building but decided he wasn’t interested in meeting any of the characters. He thought Wreck It Ralph was just OK and I don’t think he’s seen the Incredibles.

We ended up in the first row of desks which I like because you can see really well. The artist started asking people which characters they had drawn. When he got to Pluto, no one raised their hand and I got really excited. But then one lady in the back raised her hand at the last minute and he moved onto other characters. Talk about a letdown. Maybe someday I’ll get to draw Pluto. We ended up drawing Bolt, another dog I’m fond of so it all worked out. So here’s my drawing. I’m happy with it except for the eyes being different sizes.

And here’s Jim’s. He didn’t do too badly for his first time.

After the class it was almost time for our next FP+ which was at 4:20 pm for TSM. We slowly made our way there via the stores along the way and got in the FP line right at our time. So how did we do this time? Jim blew me out of the water.

He even got best in vehicle.

While he would have beat me no matter what with his score, my highest is 160 something, I was having a horrible time with my gun. It was only firing every other shot for most of the games and then it completely quit halfway through the last game. Of course Jim said I was just making excuses but it really wasn’t working. I was so bummed because I knew that would be the last TSM ride for the week.

When we were sitting waiting for the drawing class, I had checked the times guide and noticed that there was a Jedi Training Academy at 4:40 pm. Jim loves Star Wars so I figured he would enjoy watching it. I had caught bits and pieces in the past while walking by but had never watched the whole thing.

We made it there a minute or so after it started. Basically, a Jedi Master teaches the kids a simple light saber routine and then calls them up one at a time to test them on the moves. As he starts the test, he’s interrupted by Darth Vader who ends up “fighting” each of the kids.

Here he is teaching the kids.

Uh oh, here comes trouble.

I must have gotten bored at one point watching the kids do the same thing over and over and took this picture.

The show was very cute. The kids really made it interesting because you had no idea how each one would do. Some of them were able to follow the instructions and others not so much. Jim loved it and was mad that he was too old to participate in the show. He wanted to go back and look around the Star Wars store some more but it was time for our dinner ADR so I told him we could go back after.

We headed out and around the lake to check in for our dinner reservation.

Up Next: I Promise to Never Take You to Universal Studios

The entire time i read this the imperial march was going in my head...

I really HOPE my kids do this..

:scared1: Did you forget to pick up the R2D2 Pluto you mentioned earlier that you would pick up " later" ?? after watching the young Jedis ? Jim is right adults SHOULD be able to take the class..which reminds me of that Father & his kids commercial ( Show your Disney side ) in a hardware store and the Father goes all Star Wars and knocks over the spray paint cans...never can understand how his light sabre ( a long flouresant light tube ) doesn't break but I :rotfl2: every single time

Will CRT do anything special for Valentine's Day ? Hmmmm :confused3 not really sure but AM sure you will have a great time !

TSM I LOVE this but unfortunately not something I can do for the next few months, that would kill my arm

LOVED the Bolt you both drew Since you mentioned the left eye AND both you & Jim did the exact same thing there then it must have been the instructors fault I wouldn't want to draw Pluto in that class, afraid I would mess him up so badly

In one man's dream the pluto Jim was willing to go to jail for :rotfl:v there is a very similar one that TDS put out a retro one that looks just like it I got it because Dillon used to do that same " hang head" expression the few times I had to say " What did you do ? " I love it, it brings back a ton of memories

Now here is where I see the age difference in us ( no other way though ) so many of those things in the display cases I OWNED :scared1::sad2: and wish I still had The display cases in POP I can say the same things about with the 50's 60's Would you believe I still have my " clamp on" roller skates No skate key anymore...long gone, but somehow the skates make it with every single move :rotfl2: The poster of Walt showing the Florida Project I remember that broadcast, we were all so excited with the plans ...

TTY soon

I still have never done the animation class...or One Man's Dream... :rolleyes1 I got sad seeing the submarine from 20,000 Leagues...that is the one ride from the past that I REALLY miss. I know it was cheesy with plastic fish, but it was one of my absolute favorites when I was a child. Just the idea of going under in a submarine always felt like the grandest adventure. :goodvibes

JTA, we have seen this a time or two... :rotfl2: While home for Thanksgiving, we got to talking with my brother and his family about Star Wars Weekends, and my 22 yr old nephew asked what the age cut off was for that. He was traumatized that he would never get to do it! :rotfl: This is the same 22 yr old that has his own set of light sabres, dresses up for Comic Con every year, and got the excitement of his life a few months ago when he FINALLY got a job at Game Stop! Yes, he is in college, but apparently landing a job at Game Stop was on his "bucket list". :lmao: He is now engaged, and we knew it was a match made in heaven when she came home from Comic Con with hot pink hair (temporary). ::yes::

Loved seeing the pics from One Man’s Dream. I haven’t been in there yet - seems like something that might be better to do when DD is a bit older. Not sure though - she saw a preview for Mr. Banks and was begging to see it. Too bad it’s PG-13!

I have got to do that animation class sometime - it sounds like so much fun! I think both of the Bolts turned out very nice.

Wow - you two are pretty good TSMM players. We SUCK.

Loved the pics from the jedi training! DD had planned to do it for months prior to our trip, but I think the heat just destroyed her motivation. :confused3

I actually just found your August TR and started it. Gonna be a while before I'm totally caught up though, I'm only on page 11 right now.
I would totally understand if you wanted to just join in from now forward. It's a lot to get through! Thanks for trying! ;)

I've never done One Man’s Dream but your pics make me want to go see all the displays! Sorry you didn't get Pluto in the Animation Class, but your drawings did come out pretty good!!

Now it's going though my head. :rotfl: I hope your kids do it too, it looked like a lot of fun.

:scared1: Did you forget to pick up the R2D2 Pluto you mentioned earlier that you would pick up " later" ?? after watching the young Jedis ? No worries, we made it back to the Star Wars store after dinner. That commercial cracks me up every time too. And yes I did have the same thought as to how the light tube doesn't break. Those things are fragile!

Will CRT do anything special for Valentine's Day ? Hmmmm :confused3 not really sure but AM sure you will have a great time !

I know we will have a great time! It will be interesting to see if they do anything for Valentines Day around the parks. I don't think I've ever been there on an actual holiday.

TSM I LOVE this but unfortunately not something I can do for the next few months, that would kill my arm

Even without having an injured arm, mine are usually pretty sore by the end so I don't blame you for not riding.

LOVED the Bolt you both drew Since you mentioned the left eye AND both you & Jim did the exact same thing there then it must have been the instructors fault I wouldn't want to draw Pluto in that class, afraid I would mess him up so badly

I can't remember if the different sized eyes were part of the instructions or not. I still want to try Pluto but if it turns out badly, I won't be posting the pictures. I've really surprised myself the two times I did the class as I can't even draw a stick figure normally. They do a great job instructing.

In one man's dream the pluto Jim was willing to go to jail for :rotfl:v there is a very similar one that TDS put out a retro one that looks just like it I got it because Dillon used to do that same " hang head" expression the few times I had to say " What did you do ? I think I might have the retro one but I have so many stuffed Plutos I would need to look.

That would have been so cool to hear Walt's broadcast! I remember a lot of the stuff from the 80s case at POP.

I love your writing style!

Thanks!

20,000 Leagues is actually one of the rides I remember vividly from childhood too. Plastic fish on sticks and also the octopus that attacks you! I need to get out to Disneyland to ride the one there even though they changed it to Nemo now.

JTA, we have seen this a time or two... :rotfl2: While home for Thanksgiving, we got to talking with my brother and his family about Star Wars Weekends, and my 22 yr old nephew asked what the age cut off was for that. Wait till you see what Jim bought when we went back to the Star Wars store after dinner.

Loved seeing the pics from One Man’s Dream. I haven’t been in there yet - seems like something that might be better to do when DD is a bit older. Not sure though - she saw a preview for Mr. Banks and was begging to see it. Too bad it’s PG-13!

Yea, she might appreciate it more when she's a little older. I can't wait to see Saving Mr. Banks! I'm either going to go Saturday or Christmas Eve day as I want to see the Hobbit too. I can't decide which one I want to see first.

I have got to do that animation class sometime - it sounds like so much fun! I think both of the Bolts turned out very nice.

Thanks! The class is a lot of fun!

Awe, too bad she didn't want too, the kids in the show we saw seemed to be having a wonderful time.

I would totally understand if you wanted to just join in from now forward. It's a lot to get through! Thanks for trying! ;)

It is soooo slow at work right now that I need stuff to distract me. That's why I was looking for new TRs to read. Your title actually caught my attention but then I realized, hey I know that person. :rotfl: Today though I need to write some more installments for my TR if I want to keep up the pace I've set. The one I'm posting in a few minutes is the last one I have written up.

We were headed to 50s Prime Time for dinner. This was the only restaurant from our Honeymoon that Jim requested we go to again. We had a really good time when we ate here 15 years ago. When we were almost to the restaurant Jim said that he needed to use a restroom. There is really not a close one to 50s Prime Time so I told him to just use the one in the restaurant. He was not happy with that for some reason but there was no time to backtrack so we checked in and he headed to the restroom. Well as soon as he left, they called our name! I told the hostess that he wasn’t there and she said to just let her know when he was back. This was another time he took forever, I think I waited at least 10 minutes for him, and I was a bit annoyed when he finally came out. Not a great start to our dinner.

We headed back and were seated. At least Jim was happy to be there.

I cheered up pretty quickly though as our waitress was awesome. Her name was Claire and she introduced herself as our “Auntie Claire” and then went on to introduce us to all of our “cousins” at the tables around us.

She took our drink orders and I decided I needed a chocolate milk shake. I think Jim ordered a coke.

When we were there in 1998, they had crayons on the table and Jim spent some time coloring. Here his is way back then:

He wanted to recreate that picture so he asked Claire if he could get some crayons. She said sure and went off to get them.

Jim was fiddling with his straw paper but he always does that so I didn’t think anything of it. Well when our waitress brought the crayons, Jim said “Hey Auntie Claire, watch this” and proceeded to shoot a spit ball down the front of my shirt. She had all the tables around us point at him and say “shame, shame, shame.” It was so funny and exactly the reaction Jim wanted.

He then did some coloring so I could take a new picture.

For dinner, Jim ordered Cousin Ann’s Traditional Meatloaf.

I got Mom’s Old-Fashioned Pot Roast

Now I wasn’t too fond of the veggies on top but I was able to sneak those onto Jim’s plate without getting caught. The Pot Roast was delicious. I ate every bite and Jim really liked his meatloaf too.

Getting a milkshake to drink though was a bad idea. I was so stuffed by the end and I still had dessert coming. I should have stuck with water and had the milkshake for dessert!

For dessert, Jim ordered the apple cobbler.

I got a hot fudge Sundae, hold the whip cream which I don’t like.

I don’t think either of us ate more than a few bites of our dessert because this was when the serious pixie dust started. Claire came back with a cupcake for our anniversary which she proceeded to cut into four pieces. I never got a picture of the cupcake but it was your standard vanilla one.

She then asked everyone around us if they were invited to our wedding. Of course everyone said no and she said well that was not nice since we are cousins. Then she had us stand up in the middle of the room and reenact our vows for the whole room. I’m not even sure at this point what all she had us recite but the last line was “I promise not to take you to Universal Studios”. Then we had to feed each other the cupcake. I was laughing so hard at that point that I missed Jim’s mouth and got cupcake all over his face. And the best part of all of this, Claire took my camera and documented the whole thing. She took a lot of pictures and I’m going to post them all because they tell the story so well.

Claire is explaining to us what is going on. Jim looks a little unsure doesn’t he?

We are reciting our vows.

Claire told us to look lovingly at each other.

Time to feed the cupcake to each other

Whoops, I missed.

Let’s try again.

Then she had us pose for a few more pictures at the table.

The whole experience was a blast! One of the best times I’ve had at a Disney restaurant in all my trips. We settled our bill while of course leaving Claire a huge tip and then headed out after saying goodbye to all our new found cousins.

I've never done One Man’s Dream but your pics make me want to go see all the displays! Sorry you didn't get Pluto in the Animation Class, but your drawings did come out pretty good!!

You should definitely do One Man's Dream sometime. It is just really cool to see the story of Walt. Thanks, I was pretty pleased with my drawing.

It was an awesome moment. I've eaten at 50s Prime Time three times now. 2 of the 3 were great experiences. It does really depend on the server you get. The one we had in 2010 was no fun at all.

OOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMGGGGGGGGGGG

Oh yeah, 50s Prime Time can be a blast if you get the right server. Plus I always go into a meal there knowing I might get "yelled" at or teased. It's really what you make of it!

Yep, definitely depends on the server and we got an awesome one this time.

It was! Let Hailey know I love my boo shirt too! :rotfl: I got it at the Disney Store a few years ago.

Fantasmic was at 7:30 pm that night and normally I would have headed straight there after dinner. But we had a FP+ so as long as we got there by 7:15 we were guaranteed a seat.

So instead, we headed back to the Star Wars store so Jim could shop some more. What I didn’t realize was that he decided after seeing the Jedi Academy that he wanted to make his own light saber. So that’s what he proceeded to do. Here he is carefully picking out the pieces.

And the finished product back in the room later that night. You can tell he was very proud of his creation.

I have to admit the thing is pretty cool. It lights up and makes the humming and whooshing sounds you hear in the movie when you swing it around.

I went ahead and got my Pluto R2-D2.

After that we took a quick bathroom break and then sat on a bench while Jim called his Mom. His sister had surgery the week before our trip and he wanted to check in to see how she was doing.

As we left the Star Wars store, I realized that we had not done any PP pictures at HS other than the character greets. So we headed a little ways down Hollywood Blvd to get some pictures. While we waited for the group in front of us to be done, I took some pictures of my favorite dog, another photo I think I take every trip.

And here are our PP pictures.

This next one is my favorite from the whole trip and is the one that ended up in the silver frame I bought the day before.

Then we got our second magic shot of the day.

Photos finished, it was time to head to Fantasmic. As I said above, we had a FP+ for the show so we got in that line. Here’s a shot of all the Magic Band readers they have as you enter the theater.

They had a truck along the way selling the Glow with the Show Ears. I had no real desire to buy a pair of these as they are pretty expensive. I just enjoyed the ones other people were wearing.

The FP+ seating ended up being to the far left of the theater when you entered. We were in the Hades section.

Here’s our view:

They now reserve the very middle sections for the guests that buy the Fantasmic dining package. I ended up having mixed feelings about the FP+ for Fantasmic. It was very nice to not have to get to the theater an hour early to get seats but the seats with the FP+ were not the best. I doubt I’ll use it again because there are better options for FP+ at HS. I was glad I did try it though so that I could see what it was like.

While we were sitting and waiting for the show, I spotted a Grandma in a group in front of us sporting this awesome light up Mohawk.

I just thought that was pretty cool of her! The theater was definitely crowded.

The pre-show stuff started right after we sat down. They play some games with the audience but I was messing with my camera and barely paid attention.

There were vendors selling the Glow with the Show Ears inside the theater too. Guess they are really trying to push those.

Playing some more with my camera.

Jim had fun playing with his light up key chain light sabers.

And then before we knew it, it was time for Fantasmic to start!

Up Next: Fantasmic (yeah, I got nothing else for this next chapter title)
