Calling all DCL vets... Has anyone ever requested the Dining room they would like the first night of the cruise (thus setting up nights 1,4 and 7) with any success? I read somewhere that though dDCL may or may not accomodate you request it is worth a go. Just curious what the vets think.

Yes, you can make a request for a dining rotation prior to boarding the ship. At that time, it is a request only and will not be guaranteed. When you check in, your KTTW card will list your dining rotation. If its what you wanted, great, if not, there's still a way! Upon boarding, you go to Rockin Bar D (or wherever they are doing Palo ressies for your trip) and speak to the reps at the table for the main dining room. That's where you will be able to make your change.

Sounds great! Thanks so much for the reply!! We will be headed that way anyhow as we want to make ressies for Palos.

Once your first night is set ALL nights are set because there are only a limited number of rotations.
Magic: LAPLAPL, APLAPLA, PLAPLAP
Wonder: TTAP, AAPT, PPTA (the new rotations with on the 4 nights with Pirates)

Thats right! That is why we would like to draw Animators palate first... then we can hit it again nights 4 and 7. We do know that the "show" is not done but on the first night for each group rotating. But it the atmosphere may be more conducive to the little ones we are travling with since there is a DISNEY Character theme.

I was told last Thursday (2/24) by a DCL rep. that the Wonder had gone back to the "old" rotations for the 4 night cruises; i.e. the repeated restaurants are on the last two nights. APTT, etc.

I have the REAS and had planned Palo around the new rotation. I requested TTAPP. I guess I'll just be suprised then. :flower:

That's the right move for you to make, and I'll add two things:

One, I've always felt that the best time to see the Animator's Palate "color" show is the first night. The Disney Magic "aura" is still sinking in and it just feels more, well, "magical". Having said that, it's really much ado about not so much. It's a nice show, a nice touch, but I never understood why Disney made SUCH a big deal out of it marketing-wise.

Secondly, having the Animator's rotation gets you the first Parrot Cay character breakfast on Sunday morning. Again, having that breakfast later on in the week, after seeing most of the characters continually around the ship, to me loses some of its appeal.

That is good FYI Mike!As I said, we hope to draw AP first because we will have 3 little ones with us (maybe more by than-that is 20 months away!) and we feel that even without the SHOW everynight the kids would prefer to be in the Dining room with the Disney char on the walls and etc.But you made some great points to consider. I will pass them on to my travel mate yonkrs_girl. I do feel it will be more exciting to see the SHOW in Ap at the start of the cruise. BTW, What night would you recommend we book Palo for...of course depending on our actual rotation?

If "Yonkrs_girl" is from Yonkers, NY, that's where I am right now! I grew up here and still have my office here!

Is Animator's Palate your choice for first night solely because of the artwork or is the food better at one restaurant versus the other?

During the course of a 7-day the cruise, all passengers will ultimately order off of the same menus.

There are 4 themed nights which means that the three restaurants willl serve the same food. The other three nights will feature food from that specific restaurant, and you will see each of them in one of your two (or three) rotations.

Yes, I do believe Yonkr_girl is from Yonkers. How ever she lives in Georgia now. Our hubbies work for the same major corporation and we have been friends for over 10 years. Our families are Disneyphiles and we are taking the cruise together in 11/2006.

I guess we would like the AP first because the of the reasons Mike mentioned as well as the fact that is is the most Disneyesque of the DR's. Lumieres is in no way what we desire for 3 nights with little ones. I guess PC would be a close 2nd If had to choose. Frankly we hope to go Lumieres once... and than hopefully get Ressies for Palos on the 2nd night at L's. We are a laid back Bunch and L's may be a bit to uppity for us.

As someone already pointed out, having Animator's Palate for your first dining room means that you will have your Character Breakfast the next day. Because we had main seating, we didn't make it to the character breakfast on our January Eastern cruise - we lost an hour with the time change and the character breakfast was at 8am. There was no way we could get up that early - but then again, we are slugs. If you are energetic, you'll probably have no problem with this.

Well, I am an early riser. But Can't say that about the rest of the party. Either way.. we are going to the West.. so we will not lose the hour. I think we actually gain an hour... is that correct? We would love to have the breakfast the first Morning while it is all so new and exciting before we lull into the relaxed mode. The adults anyhow.LOL!

You might want to check previous Navigators then...I'm not sure, since Sunday morning on a Western is typically a port day (Key West), it's possible the Character Breakfast won't happen that morning. Sunday on the Eastern is a day at sea.

Good Point! We are not going to Key west (Thank god... what a waste for me I was born and raised in Miami and have been there zillions of times) but we do go to CC which as we all know is in the Bahamas hence still in the East time zone. I guess we will gain the hour on Monday heading from CC to Costa Maya!

Thanks for this thread regarding the dining rotations. As a cruise newbie I got tons of information from them. I did have a question spring up though....I had read somewhere, probably here on the DIS, that rotations might be assigned according to the ages of your kids. I was thinking of calling DCL and requesting the APLAPLA rotation (we will have a DS12, DD11, DD9 and DS3 at the time of cruising). But since there is a big span between the kids, it makes it complicated...will the older kids be dining with mostly little little kids on that rotation, or do they make it a mix, so that there will be some kids their ages in there too?? I would think that there would be, because some young kids have older siblings too! :)
I would love to have this rotation for our younger son, who is really into Disney right now, but don't want the older kids to lose out on a better rotation for them if they are with more kids their ages....We are excited no matter what though, this is all extra icing on the cake! :teeth:
