Reese's Pieces makes a wish pre-trip report

Woke up fever free! We are not sure what caused the fever. The normal things (ears and throat look fine. We will be here until her ANC numbers come back up. Since her diagnosis she has struggled with keeping her immunity numbers up.

She felt well enough to want to watch Snow White and the Scary Branches.

Glad she is feeling better. Hope you get to head home soon. So sorry that you all have to go through this.

I'm SO glad she feels well enough to watch snow white (and the scary branches). :) Praying her ANC rises enough that she can go home soon!

Her fever came back last night. Not sure what caused it--chest, ears, eyes, throat are clear. This morning her ANC went up to 80 (big jump from 8)--I think we will be heading home tomorrow. I think they want her to be fever free for 24 hours before releasing her.

So excited I found your report.

My son Diego was granted a wish to Legoland (and Disney and Universal) and we received our dates yesterday Dec 7-13 so we might end up being there at the same time :)

Diego had a wilms tumor (kidney cancer) but is currentlly in remission although he still does IV antibiotics once a month at the hospital and he does scans every 3 months.

I need to start a PTR too.

Diegosmom, please do start one. I'd love to follow along as you prepare to go.

I'm sorry to hear Reece's fever came back. I was wondering if it would. Just bc it seems like the kids wake up fever free the morning following and by the afternoon it creeps back up. Good news on the ANC going up! Thanks for keeping us updated! Praying she is out soon!

Sorry to hear that her fever came back... I hope she is feeling better by now and can go home. (((Hugs)))

Still here.

Reese has been fever free since Monday night but because of her low blood counts, the doctor doesn't want to release her.

Her immunity numbers are going up and down, so the doctor wants to see them on an upwards trend.

Fortunately (or unfortunately?) she loves this hospital visit. She isn't on any yucky tasting medicine. Her port is working so no iV's, blood draws, and she feels good. We have spent many hours in the playroom during art and music therapy.

Plus Grover and Elmo stopped by:

The only negative thing is I didn't think we were going to be here more than a couple of days, so I didn't pack well. I brought maybe 2 changes of clothes, some of her favorite movies, her leap pad and a coloring book and crayons--not much. Plus DH had to go home to work on Monday night, so it is just been the two of us since then.

Well I'm very glad to hear this hospital trip hasn't been a stressful one for either of you! That really helps, and I like that it gives Reece a more positive memory. The picture is adorable! Is she a Sesame Street fan? I was big time but neither of my girls ever really were. :(

And I get you on the packing thing. When she was placed at MUSC in Charleton, we were going for a specialist visit and had made NO PREPERATIONS whatsoever to stay for a week. We didn't have a hair brush, deodorant or toothpaste (or a toothbrush), much less clothes. Thanking God bc my best friends stepped up and got much needed items to us until the clothes could arrive. When is the earliest you might be able to get what you need?

Sorry you are stuck at the hospital without all the things you need, but very glad to hear that this hospital stay isn't hard on Reese.

It's a good thing that Reese thinks the hospital visit isn't bad. Sad to hear you're still in hospital and didn't pack everything you need.

We are HOME.

I told DH that in the trunk of the car I want to keep some non-perishable foods and one of her small travel doll houses--that way we can not have to worry about toys and food.

She was so excited to be home (as was I). We live about 2 hours away from the hospital (with traffic) so it isn't easy for people to visit, and we were alone most of the week.

Glad you guys are home!

Sounds like a good plan to pack some toys and food in the trunk in case you need it in the future.

So glad you guys got to go home! I don't know if your doctors allow it but we are able to go home on IV antibiotics after a certain amount of time. That is what we did the week before last after 4 days inpatient.

Love that Elmo and Grover come to the hospital - too cool.

We have been enjoying the beautiful weather this weekend. We come in to eat and sleep pretty much.

We haven't heard much from MAW, but they did say that they were really busy right now and it could be awhile that we would hear from them.

Her immunity numbers were still low this week--to low to start the next round of chemo. So the doctors said to enjoy the outside and "bulk up"--because once she starts chemo again, her appetite drops dramatically. Lately we have been drinking a lot of fruit and vegetable smoothies. We make "monster shakes"--green is Mike Wazowski (spinach, banana, mango and pineapple) or blue "Sulley" (blueberries, banana, greek yogurt).

Here are some pictures from this weekend.

Awww... I just love the pictures! She is so precious!

It looks like you are enjoying some beautiful weather. I am glad to hear that Reese likes the smoothies - when my girls were little they probably would have turned their nose up - but I love how you've named them after Disney characters. :thumbsup2

You've all been on my mind... I think of you often. :lovestruc

Glad that you guys are home and enjoying the nice weather. Sorry that Reese's immunity numbers are still low.

Very creative way to get her to drink her "Mike and Sulley" smoothies. I may give that a try on my 2 year old.
