Recommendations for booking own transportation in St. Thomas?

Hi all

We are thinking about booking our own transportation (taxi) on St. Thomas, but the day our cruise is there, there will be over 22,000 other cruise passengers arriving as well.

Has anyone used any particular company? Or at least, how did it work out? I am worried we'll arrange something and then we'll be left in the lurch if no one shows up...

(And no, I don't want to just find a taxi when we get there for various reasons.)

What do you want from this taxi service? A ride to a particular location? An island tour?

We've honestly had good luck on St. Thomas with going with whomever at the port when it was just transportation from point A to B. St. Thomas is the US. With most companies, you have cell service just like at home. US laws are in effect. Granted, there is crime everywhere, but .....we've never had an issue. If you want a driver for the day, that's a different issue.

A ride to a particular location (and a return trip, of course). We've had some very sketchy transportation on other trips (including one stop in St. Thomas 5 years ago) - which we accepted in the pre-kid days, but we'd rather not be terrified when traveling with our son.
