Recently back from a Disney Noshfest!!! Reviews w/pics!!(Updated 5/19 Be Our Guest!!)

Well, we just scrubbed Captains Grille off our list ;)

Seriously, that crab cake entree looked BAD!

But, wow, the Flower & Garden festival offerings look amazing. That lamb has me salivating and the pulled pig looks great too :thumbsup2

My only regret is that we didn't get to try more at the Flower and Garden...there was some great looking items.

And did you SEE the potato on that entree???? :rotfl2:

I am going to lump some treats reviews all together because I honestly can't remember the order I had them in. :goodvibes

One of my goals this trip was to eat a cupcake for breakfast! I chose a Red Velvet Cupcake from Starring Rolls at DHS. OMG!!!! I could not have made a better choice!!!

This cupcake was amazing! It was so moist and the icing was sweet but not too sweet. Not sure what the crunchy topping was but everything in this cupcake worked together soooooo well. I consider myself a cupcake snob :snooty: as we have this amazing local cupcake place that I swear makes the worlds best cupcakes....but this one gives it a run for their money!!! Beware though ~ it is huge, and my friend and I ended up splitting it.

While we are still on cupcakes....the Boardwalk Bakery reopened during our trip so we made our way over there for some more cupcakes....see a theme here???? DH got the Oreo cupcake and I got the Espresso one...see below

These were also delicious and the icing very delicious and light. Overall, the cupcakes that I had this trip were out of this world!

One last little morsel.....I also at one point got the sea salt and milk chocolate covered caramel from Karamel Kuche in Germany.

Once again, this was fantastic, melt in your mouth perfection. The sea salt worked perfectly with the sweetness of the chocolate. I shared this with DH as it is pretty big...but I probably could have eaten it all myself....and probably would have felt sick after. Sooooooooo GOOD!!!!

Oh, a new englander :) I am so reading your reviews. Can't wait to hear/read/see/taste... uh, strike that last part, more :goodvibes

BTW - never been to a Johnny Rockets. We fly out of PVD (boston roadways confuse me) and I'm always tempted by the smells, but am afraid to feed the family more than an iced coffee or collatta before the flight.

Yes!! New Englander born and raised!! :goodvibes

We actually usually fly out of MHT (since we live in Manchester)...BUT, it was a lot cheaper to fly out of Boston this time, even with a round trip limo ride to/from the airport.

Glad to have you reading along!! :yay:

Well, continuing on with my little culinary journey....I have some news!!!

Today, I just booked a Girls trip with my BFF for 9/29-10/2!!! We got a steal on airfare so we are going to go down for 3 nights/4 days in order to partake in Food & Wine and MNSSHP (which we bought tickets for!!!). I am sooooooo excited!!! :cool1: (wasn't it just 2 posts ago how I was saying how long and how badly I wanted to go??? Thanks to DH, I am going!!! Can't tell the kids though, lol! :rotfl2:

Back to the food!!!

I had a couple of random snacks to review. One of them is the TURKEY LEG.

DH and I tried the turkey leg for the first time way back in 2000. This perplexing piece of meat comes from no turkey I've ever seen, and oddly enough smells and tastes like ham?? When we tried it back in 2000, we decided that it made a much better picture prop than food....so here is my offering for this trip...

My daughter using the turkey leg as a weapon against her daddy, LOL!!!

(No daddies were harmed in the making of these photos) :rotfl:

Needless to say, we didn't really actually eat this thing...we kind of all took a bite and then used it as a toy. Not my fave :confused3

The other "snack", if you will is the "Lobster Roll" from Hurricane Hannah's.

Oy! What do I say about this???

Being from New England, I am very familiar with what a lobster roll is supposed to be. This was just....strange....it had shrimp and scallops in it too, and some other crunchy item that I couldn't identify. I was very hungry that day and being at the pool with limited options, I ate a good portion of it....but, I truly hope that people who are not from New England do not think that this is what a lobster roll should be.

I've seen people rave about this one, but I have to give it a miss. Wouldn't do it again.:scared:

And of course, also loving the updates and awesome food porn pics, thanks for sharing! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Loving your review! Keep em comin'! Will you be showing/reviewing any CL offerings? Just curious as we are staying YC CL on our next trip. First time YC AND first time CL!:cool1:

I lvoe, love, love that red velvet cheesecake cupcake from Starring Rolls and, if memory serves, the Oreo one from Boardwalk Bakery was pretty good too (although I seem to remember the Oreos were a little soft).

I hardy ever eat cake at home but there is just something about a Disney World cupcake that I can't resist.

That picture of your DD attacking her Daddy with the turkey leg is hilarious :rotfl:

You say... "This is a mockery of Lobster" You are a fellow New Englander, its one of the Lobster Commandments

"Thou shalt not take the name of Lobster Roll in vain"

Right under
"Thou shalt not use anything but melted butter to dip your steamed Lobster in"
and
"Thou shalt not drown your roll in mayo"

Oh no! The quandary you leave me in! I would love to follow the Lobster Commandments, but HH may be as close to Maine as I can get this decade (even though I have to :drive: south to get to WDW & Maine is NE of here... Same goes for Massachusetts. Either way, WDW is closer and has better rides.

OP, I'm loving your food pictures and descriptions. Thanks so much!

DD plays softball and says she could have hit a sweet homerun with that bad boy!!! I believe she could have. :rotfl:

Loving your review! Keep em comin'! Will you be showing/reviewing any CL offerings? Just curious as we are staying YC CL on our next trip. First time YC AND first time CL!:cool1:

Unfortunately, I did not take any pictures in the CL lounge. I would still feel wierd doing that. However, I can tell you about the offerings. There was a rotating menu that always included some type of puff pastry or fried pastry type thing. I.E. Crab rangoon, spinach pie, goat cheese and something, spring rolls. There was also scallops wrapped in bacon one night (my favorite thing). There was a delicious tomato/basil mozzarella salad one night that was delicious...the balsamic vinegar dresssing was delish!!!

Overall, we actually enjoyed the CL offerings at WL better than YC. I am a pretty adventurous eater and the offerings at YC really had nothing to offer my family. :sad1: The CL at WL had so many different things, like meatballs, and chili, and chicken wings, etc...that it really just blows YC CL out of the water. That being said, we enjoyed our time at YC CL and do not regret it at all, however, if we are to stay at YC again, we will do a regular room and not CL.

Hope that helps. :upsidedow

I did not eat the oreo one, but there were no complaints from DH!!! Actually I think my youngest DD ate the cookies! I am not a cake person either, but I do love a good cupcake, and wow I had some good ones this trip!!! :goodvibes

Subbing! Fellow new englander here... Looking forward to the reviews.

Loving the reviews! NH-ite here, too :) Grew up near Manchester!

Thanks for reading along!!! I am from Manchester! :goodvibes

That's not a very appealing looking lobster roll. So much wrong with it.

There was nothing right about, really. BUT....the Boardwalk Bakery had an AMAZING looking Lobster roll and perhaps that is the one I should have gotten...:scratchin It looked like the real deal...definitely next time!! :p

Hmmmmm....so, what should I review next??? Yachtsman Steakhouse, Be Our Guest, Via Napoli???

I'm at work right now :rolleyes2 but I'll try to update tonight!!

Good to know that a respectable lobster roll can be found at BW Bakery. We'll be at the BCV in August, will certainly be on the Boardwalk several evenings.

Enjoying the report! I hope CL is better at the BC, I am having doubts about for my Sept trip :(

Great TR so far!

Thank you for reading along!! :goodvibes

Thanks for reading!!!!

Honestly, YC CL was a very nice experience. I just think that the WL CL is absolutely amazing and it would be hard to compare to that. If I had done it in reverse order, I probably would have been fine. Again, I felt worse for my family who really didn't like any of the offerings at YC. Even my oldest DD said that the cookies at WL were better...:rolleyes2

I would love to hear how you feel about BC CL once your done your stay!:goodvibes

For the past few trips, DH and I have dropped the girls off at the kids club and headed out for a date night. This trip was no different and this time we chose Yachtsman Steakhouse.

I will preface this review with the fact that we are huge fans of Le Cellier and have always had awesome experience there. I have never understood the contempt for Le Cellier on these boards. :confused3. That being said, we opted to try Yachtsman instead of our usual LC this trip and were pretty nervous.

We had reservations for 5:30 pm. We got there around 5:15 and were seated right away! Our waiter was from RI (a fellow New Englander) and we chatted with him for awhile. He was so great and personable. :goodvibes

We got the bread service. The onion pull a parts and some sourdough bread rolls. It came to the table hot. It was served with sea salted butter and either roasted or carmelized garlic.

Wowza!!! Those onion rolls were AH-MaZING!!!! They were hot, and flaky and light and with the butter on it, it was :cloud9:

I love me some bread and butter (and it shows) and this was heavenly. I even spread the garlic on the bread, thinking it was kind of weird but what the heck and that was divine as well. It spread like butter and didn't have a very strong garlic taste, just enough.

DH said his sourdough was super delicious and he ate both rolls. :cutie:

I discussed the merits of the famous Lobster Bisque with our waiter, since he is from New England. I figured he wouldn't steer me wrong. So I ordered it....O.M.G!!!!! It was superb!!!

The flavor was rich but not overpowering. There were huge chunks of lobster in it that you can't really see in the photo. There is an amazing restaurant in Maine called Dimillo's (literally on a boat in the ocean) that has my absolute favorite lobster bisque. I would put this one up against it any day. It was soooo good. I even tried to lick my bowl (but my DH swatted it down before I could reach my mouth). When it's that good, it's hard to maintain the classiness. :rotfl:

DH and I both got the ribeye as an entree, which is our favorite cut of steak.
I ordered it with the potato gratin, and DH got the herb fries. (Potato gratin shown in pic)

Well, Yachstman steakhouse can do a steak!! It was really good!!! :thumbsup2
It was a giant serving at 14 ounces so I could not finish it, and looking at the menu, DH and I said if we go back there, we would just order the larger Porterhouse and split it. ::yes::

Overall, we had no reason to be nervous about eating here. It was great!! The atmosphere and general layout of the restaurant is superior to Le Cellier and again, that lobster bisque is out of bounds!!! :worship:

We would absolutely eat here again. Double thumbs up!! :thumbsup2:thumbsup2

Now I want a steak! I am drooling. Great reviews.

Loved the knock-out to dad with the turkey leg! :rotfl2:

:thumbsup2
