My dad is taking the whole fam on an RCCL cruise. My kids said, "But it isn't a Disney Cruise!" True kids true! But we are still going. Can anyone give a recommendation for a good forum to ask RCCL questions?

Any cruise is a great vacation.
Any cruise that you're not paying for is even better.
We cruised RCCL twice, they are a great line. Not Disney, but a far better value for the money.

Cruise Critic is a great. Cruise Travel Talk is another.

We are booked on RCI's Freedom of the Seas. Have a great time.

You are going to enjoy the Freedom of the Seas. It is a great ship and has many things for your kids to do. Can't wait for my 2nd cruise on it in December, 2010.

Just a word of warning about the other site (cruise critic). They are known to both censor and play up some other cruise lines. It was so bad that some posters were rewarded with free cruises if they said enough nice things about them. This was never disclosed when posting. If anything about these champions are mentioned over there, that post is immediately removed and the poster banned. I sure am glad this stuff doesn't happen over here.

It is hard to believe a word you wrote about cruise critic. I have also monitored and posted on that site for many years. I have never seen any incidents like you explained. The other site does post information from all the cruise lines. The problem with posters on this site who look at that site sometimes feel slighted by the posters saying good things about the other lines.

Yes, on the other site Disney Cruise Lines does not get mentioned that much because they lack a lot of the fun that can be had on other cruise lines. Two of the other cruise lines mentioned frequently, Carnival and RCCL, cater to over 50% of the cruising population and so are quite up to date on what the cruising population is looking for.

They don't need help by CC deleting or omitting posts that favor DCL. The DCL cruises about 2% of the cruising population on two ships that are over 12 years old. That is almost retirement age for most ships.

You don't have to believe me, but if you go to google and put in the search term:

rccl cruise royal champion

you will see all the posts about it. What is obviously missing is you won't find anything on cruise critic about it because they deleted any post that even mentions it. I don't mind boards keeping things on topic or clean, but in my opinion this was just wrong to have the cruise lines reward posters who said great things about them - at that point it becomes a paid advertisement, not just people posting their views.

I'm not doing this to start anything bad and it has absolutely nothing to do with DCL, I just thought that people should know the "rest of the story" when you go to some sites.

Did you have a horrible time?

No, I would not say that. For us, looking back, the Freedom was a means to get to a destination, where the Wonder was a destination unto itself. We had, in our opinion, a better time on the Wonder than on the Freedom. From the food, the rotational dining, the entertainment, the bigger stateroom, the fireworks, the shows, and above all Castaway Cay! on top of that, just the overall experience in general. They make boarding the Wonder an experience into itself, calling out your name, applause, just makes you feel welcome, helped set the mood. For the Freedom, it was a simple "welcome aboard" and nothing more.

We felt the trip on the Freedom was OK. But the flow rider and the rock wall, while fun, was not a deal maker for us. I was personally looking forward to it as we would not have to fly/drive all of the way to Florida to go cruising, as RCCL has ships that are much closer to where we live. If we had the money, I would try and talk my better half into going again, probably to try the Oasis or her sister ship, but since we can only afford to go cruising every few years, the family vote's hands down for DCL.

Hardly. :rotfl2:

Interesting reading!

While this is true. It was a very small percentage of the posting population over there. I am not a cruise critic defender, but I think you will find good sample of people with varied cruising backgrounds. You will have many RCI cheerleaders much like you have here for DCL, but many of them give an honest opinion and will let you know if it is a bad experience or what not. I was not posting much when the whole Royal Champion thing went down, but I do know it caused quite the stir. I still think CC can be a good source of info about cruise lines as well as ports of call. Beyond CC you get into some very small boards with a small number of regular posters who are usually very biased to their own favorites.

We found RCCL ships ok but the the food quality very poor and the service lacking all together:scared1::scared1: This was consistent with another RCCL cruise that we had done, we will not be cruising with RCCL again.

Which other ship did you go on with RCCL? We stopped eating in the main dining hall and ate at other places on the ship, including Johnny Rockets. Just was not all that impressed with the food. The service for us was OK though.

The other RCCL ship was the Adventure of the sea....the food never came to the table hot infact not even warm:sad2: and we even had a nice talk with the head server and his boss about the food temp and the quality:sad2:

As a side note.... all the DCL and Carnival meals have been served hot and fresh and been of good to excellent quality:thumbsup2 We are looking forward to CCL Liberty in just 10 days:banana::banana:

I am a very active Senior citizen who takes his grandson and son on many cruises. Don't usually spend much time just sitting around looking for something to do on a cruise. The Carnival and the RCCL have proven to have many more amenities than the DCL and so my family, including grandson, have tended to grow away from going on the DCL.

I will probably check out the new DCL when it gets going after cruises on the Carnival Dream, RCCL FOTS and the Oasis. I do like cruising on the newer ships because they have so much more and are quite spacious. I never have missed the ship welcoming, fireworks, changing dining rooms and the production shows on the DCL. The shows were good but I love dancing shows and fast grew bored with the productions which are basically live movies. Also DCL strikes out as they have no casino aboard.

When people don't eat in the main dining rooms of any of the ships I always think they are trying to save tip money. It is hard for me to see someone going back the last night to drop off a gratuity to the server, assistant and head waiter they never saw. I was told by the last two servers that is the reason people skip their reservations in the main dining areas. I think Carnival tried to take care of that by charging all the rooms for the tip on the charge card.
