I have no idea where to post this so figured this was a general forum? If There is a forum somewhere else please let me know.

I make our Disney family home movies using Movie maker... The Video recorder we use had a file format not recognized by the version of Movie maker i have. As a quick fix i upload ALL my home movies to YOU TUBE then download them as the MP4. I do NOT publish them to the public. Just need to change the file format -download- then delete.
Well I just saw several of the videos have block on them stating the music is copyrighted. OK i get that.. Again i don't publish them! Just use for the file change.

I did Dispute it only because that was the only way i could figure out how to contact them.
OR do you know another way to change the file format of a MPG?

Thanks in advance.

Have you tried google? There are a LOT of transcoders available. VLC (freeware) will even transcode.

There is software to convert. Look at download.cnet.com

Is this a safe download?

I have googled until my eyes look like the muppets. GOOGLY! I am afraid of downloading the free software in fear of virus or something else. I have poured over Microsofts site looking for answers everything states to download a OLDER version. well that doesn't make such sense to me either?!?!

Go to the link EMAW_KSU posted. It's not a program itself but a list of programs with critic & user ratings. Usually you can see screen shots. CNET is someone I'd definitely trust to have virus free software.

ETA: If I'm looking for software, I'll google for it, then if something looks good but I'm not sure, I'll google that specific software name. If people have had problems with software (or no problems) it will be talked about on multiple sites.

I did not post a download. That is a link to a site.

yes i am perusing the site now. Which i have fallen into the rabbit hole of information!

I do appreciate all your recommendations!
Since you all know more about the downloads then i do is there anything on the top of your heads i should stay clear of?

Sorry I am new at this whole Moving Picture stuff. Photography? Not an issue. Torrents? Love em
Came to my head to start putting together the photography and home video's into one. Smart right? Yes, until you realize you now have to teach yourself all about MPEG M4 AVI MOV ect! LOL
I thank each and everyone of you!

If you state in you upload t hat the music does not belong to you and your video will not be used for profit, YouTube normally leaves them alone.

i had a few videos i set to private, view only with link, youtube still send a copyright notice to me anyways... i think certain music triggers the copyright.

My daughter is a film and video motion graphics student. She puts up a lot of videos. She has never had a problem as long as the upload info indicates it is for personal use only and credits the music.

So If i credit the music it will leave it alone?
Makes more sense about it being automated as i didn't publish it. I only want to change the format!

I should probably state it's video of the Boo to you parade.

Yes. Make sure you credit the parade and state that it is not for profit.

When I was converting some video, the download I was using from C-Net left a water mark on the conversion. I have been using power director and have not had a problem with conversions.

The video's tagged are NOT published. also WHERE would i add the information.. Once i do add the information do i have to publish the videos? Again i am not very knowledgeable when it comes to video.. I do really appreciate all your help!

I got a deal on it when I purchased my PC from Dell. With that and a Analog to Digital Converter. I converted all of my VHS, 8MM tapes, and MicroDV, to Digital on my Converter. I also was able to take some very old (60 Year) Home movies by projecting them and recording with my camcorder. Worth every penny paid as the memories are now easily accessible and shared.

My daughter puts the info in the comments area. She isn't home at the moment. When she gets home tonight, I'll try to get more specifics.

Here is an example of what she posts.

An intro for a possible television show idea. I did not take these photos and I am not using the photos or the music for profit. This was a class assignment for my Intro to Animation course.

If it helps, you can look at her YouTube page. Here is a link to her videos.

All you have to do is click on the checkmark box that you accept the TERMS of using the copyrighted music. You do not have to add any credit to your description unless you want to.

I used Youtube's video editor (love it!) to clip & edit something together and didn't realize that there was copyrighted music playing in the background for one section. (Youtube is owned by Google, one of the best search engines in the world. So naturally it would have an automated audio search system that would search out & recognize any copyrighted music put in videos on their website, so legally, people could be properly credited with the rights and/or paid for the usage if necessary.)

I accepted the terms for using the copyrighted music. I thought that meant that my video would have one of those annoying popup ad banners show up during the video, or that people would have to watch a 15 second ad before the video plays. But, as long as I could re-download the video without the ad banner or ad, I was okay with it. I have downloaded other people's stuff like craft tutorials that I wanted to save so I could do them later and it never copied the banners or ads.

I did need to publish the video in order to download the finished video back onto my computer. I couldn't figure out a way to download it while it was in the unpublished state. I have Firefox for my browser and I have Firefox add-ons for copying Youtube videos, but they wouldn't work on the webpage until it was published. I was able to save copies in the .flv and .MP4 formats. (The Chrome browser does NOT have any add-ons for copying Youtube videos as Chrome is also a Google product. Google does not like people copying their videos for copyright reasons and they make sure Chrome will not mess with the Youtube pages.)

But, you do not have to KEEP the video published. Right after you download it to your computer, you can just delete the whole thing. (Make sure you saved some copies onto other places for back-up.) OR you can UNpublish it again. First, set your account and/or the video to PRIVATE. Even if you publish it, no one will see it, unless you give them a link.
