Q about 'It's a Small World Nursery'

Hello,

I plan to make sure of the Small World next year for my 18-month baby. Perhaps a few hours here and a few hours there over the course of our week on the Disney Fantasy.

I was reading recently about it, where it says parents are allowed in to play with the kids free of charge, which got me worried - how does this affect the security of the nursery? Whats to stop some loon interacting with my child, or even taking them out of the nursery? I was concerned after reading that!

Anybody got any views or experiences?
Thanks, Stevey

Hmm we were on one of the first voyages of the Fantasy. We were never let into the nursery at drop off or pick up. The only time we saw it was during open house on the first day of the cruise. We left our one year old in there a lot and used the wave phones to check on her. We even left her in there on Castaway Cay so we could enjoy a full day with our two year old- the wave phones work from the island. I plan to put our third child who will be one in the nursery when we go again in August- but I would want to know for sure parents are not let into the nursery!!

I'm now doubting myself about where I read that, but I'm sure I read it recently that the parents could come in and use the facilities with the kids.

We are cruising with our 2.5 yr old and from all the reading I've done and been reassured on there is an open house every morning in the nursery from 8-9. During that time parents go in with their children, none are dropped off. This gives the children a chance to become familiar with the nursery and the staff, and hopefully makes drop off easier because of that. I had asked at one point if I can stay until she was comfortable and I think I was told yes, but I don't think it means in the play area with the kids.

Thanks that is a bit more reassuring. How do they work it so they don't give out the wrong child? Do the adults get a Magic band of sorts?

I think the kids had a bracelet and parents use their kttwc, but again, that was a few years ago.

I can only speak for Wonder's Flounder's Nursery as we used it a few weeks ago. I came back once after dropping off my son because I forget to leave his blanket. The counselor said the only reason I was able to actually walk completely back into the nursery was because my son was the only baby there at the time. Another time when the nursery had more kids in it I overheard a counselor tell a parent that they couldn't enter (I think the mom was also just trying to drop something off) because there were more than just her child in there.

However, there were open house hours where all parents and kids were welcome on the first day, and during that time you can't leave your baby in there without a parent.

I found the nursery very safe. The babies have a wristband, but we had to put it on our sons shoe because it would fall off his wrist. That was how he was checked in. At check out they would scan the wrist band again, but I would also show my room card and give my password.

We've used the nursery on both the magic and the fantasy. Parents are only allowed in during open house hours, but we were prob eating breakfast at 8 AM and never went. Your kid gets a magic band that you need to return to the nursery CMs at the end of the cruise. The kids don't really wear them...the bands mostly get attached to the kid's bag (with diapers, wipes, special snacks that you drop off with them). Parents (or anyone se on your approved pick up/drop off list) don't get a band. You pick up and drop off with your KTTW card and your password (that you set ahead of time and share with only those you chose eg grandma).

As noted, parents are only allowed INTO the nursery during Open House hours (except when they can be personally escorted/monitored by the nursery CMs for a quick drop off of forgotten items.

If it's Open House, you will be there with your child. You cannot just leave your child there during those times.

Thanks everyone for the replies. That sounds much more like it. Much more reassured now. Thank you.

We've used the nursery quite a bit on the Dream when my youngest has been with us on 3 cruises. He wore his captain mickey magic band while in the nursery. They scanned it when coming in and verified all the information. When they scan the band, everyone that has been registered to check-in or out the child will have their picture pop up on the castmember's computer screen. When picking up you have to give your secret code to the castmember. To be honest, I would say it's more secure then our preschool at home. They do a great job keeping everyone safe and I have never had a bad feeling about leaving my son in the nursery.

The nursery was super safe! Almost annoyingly so, but everyone was amazing. We used it quite a bit on our trip last September. They knew my husband and I and our 20 month old son by the time our week on the Fantasy was over but we still had to have our KTTW card and say our password. They also checked EVERY time we dropped off our son what he was allowed to eat/drink/etc. If we took a book or toy they put it in his bag and put a piece of tape with his name on it. They even put his name on his shoes. Once we asked them to try to put him down for a nap and asked them to call us by a certain time if they were unsuccessful. We got a text on our wave phone 20 minutes later that he was peacefully sleeping away. The nursery is FANTASTIC!
