Has anyone ever done a private character meeting. If so where and how did you arrange it.

We are looking to surprise someone and thought a private visit would be the coolest thing

TIA:wizard:

1) Do a character meal, where your family could get individual pictures & autographs, or
2) do the Disney Visa Meet & Greet at Epcot (provided someone in your party has a Disney Visa). You have to wait in line, but when its your turn, you go into a room with the "secret" characters. You get a free picture taken by the Photopass photographer there. Each time we were there we saw Fab 5 characters.

Can you explain this? We have Disney Visas. Do we just show the card and get in line somewhere? Sorry if this is such a newby question.

I don't know all the details because I can't get a Visa (Canadian).

It happens in the afternoon near/in Innoventions. You get in line and show your visa card. You can do this everyday of your trip if you wanted and get a new photo each time.

The Disney VISA meet and greet is located in the Innovations East building at Epcot. I believe it starts at 2:00PM every day. You simply get in the line and show your Disney VISA card. Our experience is if you show up approximately 20 minutes before 2:00PM, you will be one of the first five or ten groups.

When it is your group's turn, you are escorted in to a room. There has always been three of the fab five characters here. It is just your group and the characters. You may clown around with them for a minute and then snap some pictures. Photopass is there as well snapping pics. They give you a voucher to pick up a free 5"x7" picture at the Kodak shop that is located just underneath Spaceship Earth. I believe the picture won't be for ready a good hour to two but we always pick it up and they are always great pictures.

You are allowed one free picture per day. We find this is a good activity to keep us out of the heat in the middle of the afternoon. It is definitely a great experience.

Wow thanks for the info; sorry if this is a threadjack, but thank you for all the help!

Yes you can do it. We did it a year ago when our now 4 yr old DS turned 3 for a special bday surprise party. It was arranged through AKL CL, if I remember right. (Which is where we were staying). It is is very pricey. But it was an amazing exprience.

unless you have 8 kids and a tv show, here's what you do: first, get a reservation at a disney resort. second, contact convention services. a character will run you around/at least $800 per character per half hour. there may be a price break for multiple characters (i believe there is a price break with both minnie and mickey for weddings anyway). you'll also need to rent a venue

Whooa...pricey but at least it's an option that I didn't know "normal" people had. Are any of the characters available? Like could you get Buzz Lightyear, or maybe even certain characters who I know exist but were never meetable characters? :cool2:

And what's this about a venue? What type of venues are there..they can't come to a room?

It's great to finally get the details on this. I suspected that such an option existed but could never find info on it! Bradk you are the MAN :worship:

Helllooooo!

We had a private meeting with Cinderella, but it was due to a Magical Moment, no something we purchased. We had visited MK early one morning on our Oct 2007 trip for breakfast with Pooh Bear. As we were leaving, a Dream Squad CM approached us and asked us what we were doing during the day. Well, we had planned on going to DHS so DS could meet with the Power Rangers (he was wearing his PR shirt), but when the CM told us we could have a private meet and greet with Cinderella at 1pm, we quickly changed plans. DS was very upset (as he has OCD like his Mommy and change upsets him - remember, he had it in his mind we were headed to DHS), but he understood that a "surprise" was going to occur at MK at 1pm. Well, we ended up at Epcot - more magic there that I will NOT highjack your thread with - and then we went back to MK to visit with Cindy. Our children were so excited to meet with her (we have a DD as well). We spent about 15 or 20 minutes with her and got lots and lots of pics (both photopass and personal). She was so gracious and truly interested in our children.

OK, so that's how we personally met a character. Again, Magical Moment rather than a purchase, but I was very surprised to learn you can do that. Thank you for the info.

For weddings at least (and I can't see it being different for private parties), it's 800 for the first and then 400 each additional character. There is a rule that the party must be appropriately themed for the character to go to. Like you couldn't have Jack Sparrow at a Princess party or you couldn't have the Princesses at a Pirate party. :confused3

I think if you do a VIP tour, they ask you what is your favorite characters and you get to meet them in private (I was reading a trip report that had VIP tour and were able to meet characters). If we can afford the VIP tour on our next Disney trip, I would want to do this as our Christmas present.

My son had a private meet and greet with several of the Star Wars characters at Hollywood Studios and then with Goofy, Chip & Dale at Mk, but it was all arranged due to an accident he had a Disney. It was an awesome experience for a 7 yr old boy, and his mom;)
