Pregnant woman in a BIKINI at Sesame Place today..

Why on earth should that woman be ashamed that she is pregnant- it's just a big belly after all! (On a lighter note, look at all the men who look pregnant in their swimsuits- and no one says anything to them! )

I tend to agree with what seems to be the majority on this question. People should wear what they themselves are comfortable with. Observers don't have to impose their own standards on others, though they are quite right to decide what they themselves want to wear.

:wave2: The only time I've been able to wear a bikini is when I was pregnant :rotfl: and I think I looked fabulous. Unfortunately, when not pregnant, all my extra fluff is in my midsection so... :confused3

And for the record, I just loved being pregnant and loved the way I looked! I felt fantastic and often thought I should have become a surragote mom to others not so lucky (that was until my 2nd pregnancy during early mid-life that didn't go as smoothly). Cheers to the Mom who said both her children were born at home. Both mine were supposed to be but that didn't work at either, though the second was delivered by midwife, almost entirely in a tub :fish:

Congrats to you!

I have heard about the underwater births- where does the midwife do this? Is it totally anasthesia free? Just curious! Thanks!

Lulu: There's birthing center about 45 miles from my home that I chose to have my DD delivered at because they had many options available and understood that my first choice was an at-home birth and their facility was my 2nd choice. The birthing center has what they call "family rooms" that include a large tub in a private bathroom. I spent the last three or four hours of labor in that tub and was moved out only for the actual delivery, which took place on my bed in the room, and was immediately transferred back into a clean tub and handed my DD, with a "she's yours, clean her up!" :flower:

I argued that the water was too hot but they knew what they were doing, of course.

Best of all, when you are immersed in a hot water bath, the pain from contractions is seriously diminished. I could not believe the difference! I hated the interims of a minute or two that I had to be out of the water to be "checked".

And, while I think you can probably ask for some type of pain reliever, I chose to go au natural and found this birth significantly easier than my first, 34 hours, 4 hours of pushing, pre-op prepared for c-section, epidural, you name it, and it was hell. Of course, in the long run, it was worth it :cool1:

I just have to say for the record that I love and am proud of my pregnant belly! I do agree that if you don't like how I look then look away. I have always felt that way preggo or not. I chuckled at the list of hideous sights that were mentioned and I would like to add one more- Moobies (Man ****s)
Now if I see them and itbothers me I look away- BUT- if I have to cover up my beutiful belly then any man with Moobies should have to wear a bra or bathing suit top! :rotfl:

I was wearing a bikini when I went into labor w/ my Aislinn. We were at a beach BBQing and I started having contractions. I think I looked the best I had ever looked when I was pregnant. :confused3 I don't see what the problem is?

I had both of my babies at home with a midwife. The second one was born in the water. It was great! No pain meds for me. They are not available for a home birth. Feel free to PM me if you want any more details. I am a birth junkie and could talk about it all day long... :flower:

Thanks Brenda and Bird Mom- very interesting! I've always been interested in the water births, but I think I would need some kind of pain med. Definitely looking into it.

Hi Lulu,
You might be amazed at how you manage labor pains. It is a different kind of pain than say, breaking an arm or having dental work. (I did not have any pain in labor with my first; just some really interesting sensations.) There are tons of non-medicinal pain relievers, such as water, hypnobirthing, having a doula, massage, etc. If you are looking to do some reading, try Gentle Birth Choices by Barbara Harper. It is all about water birthing and is great. She is the water birth guru. It also comes in a video. I would also suggest Spiritual Midwifery or Ina May's Guide to Childbirth both by Ina May Gaskin. Those are a little on the crunchy side but excellent even for the non-crunchy mama.

I am a student midwife, and we call the tub an "aqua-dural". Water is an amazing pain reliever!

Exactly! If someone here said they didn't like seeing an overweight woman in a bikini, everyone would flame that poster. What is the difference? being pregnant is a beautiful thing and if she is comfortable in a bikini, its really no one else's concern.

The way I see it, men of *all* shapes and sizes (and hairyness!) go shirtless at the beach, with their belly out for all to see, and nobody blinks an eye, so I don't see any problem with pregnant women in bikinis.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Her belly looked OK - no stretch marks, but as DH said, who wants to see that? I would NEVER show my pregnant belly.

Would you?

:earseek:

I wore my bikini on Castaway Cay this past January and was very proud of my belly.

I'm the same way, I always look the best pregnant! I should have worn a bikini, I certainly can't wear one with my non-pregnant body. I have weird pregancies, I eat whatever I want and somehow as soon as I give birth I'm lighter than I was pre-pregnancy.

Whenever I gain a few pounds I joke I should get myself knocked up again so I can lose some weight! :rotfl2:

LOL so true! My DH's belly is bigger than mine at 9 mths prego. :rotfl: I personally think a pregnant belly is beautiful and more power to the girls that can pull off a bikini. Not like she was running around in a thong. I don't understand why so many are repulsed by the site of bare pregnant bellies and breastfeeding women (as to the other hot debate on this board) :confused3 We should be embracing these women in our society not shunning them.

Well said! Anyone that says "EWWWW" in response to a pregnant belly should be ashamed of themselves, very childish IMO.

We really don't need to rehash this, especially since several pages ago the OP reexplained her original remarks.

Hey, I didn't mean to offend anyone. I was just surprised to see it, and wondered if others would do it, since I wouldn't. I have to admit I am surprised the thread has drawn so much reaction. As I mentioned before, she looked great, and more power to her, if she felt comfortable. And it was DH who said ewwwww. So blame him! :)

I'd like to add that I'm aware that when you go to a water park you have no choice but to wear a bathing suit. I am self conscious and try to wear one that is flattering. Sometimes as you walk through the park it's hard NOT to notice when someone wears something that is not flattering, whatever their shape.

It takes a strong person to come around, apologize and reexplain, which is more than I can say for your earlier unkind remarks to me. Using what you saw as unkind in the OP's situation to justify being unkind to me, when I was merely stating my personal experiences as a teacher and beauty advisor is just wrong. We've all learned things since the original post and there's no need to stir the sauce again.

Pregnant porn?? :confused3 Wow! I'll have to ask DH if he's heard of that one!

Yep....my DH actually caught an employee with a prego porn magazine at work, years ago. :earseek: That is just sooooo wrong. :crazy2:

Then perhaps you should just stop responding to my posts, which you obviously find so offensive. I am just as entitled to come here and share my opinion as you are, feel free to disagree w/ me.
