I've looked on the website I do not see a pregnancy massage or prenatal massage. I really thought I had seen on these boards that they offered one? Does anyone know for sure or how I would find out? Thanks in advance!!!

they will not let you cruise if you are past a certian week. i am sorry, i cant remember the details.

They won't let you board if you are past 26 weeks. If you look close to this then you need doctor's documentation saying that you are not beyond 26 weeks.

TexasGirl--
I remember reading about a Diser getting a massage while pregnant, too. I bet it isn't a spa "menu" item, but I would be that they are easily able to make any accomodations for you...the aromatherapy oil is one thing I think they will nix. But I do remember reading about it, too.

Edited to add the link to where I read it....

Thanks for the replies so far. I will only be in my 16th week so I am in the window where Disney will let me go. I had my OBGYN fill out the Medical form that verified my due date and current health per my travel agent's suggestion, so I should be fine there.

I am going to get some sea sickness wrist bands, watch the amount of time in the sun and should have everthing covered ok.

I do LOVE massages though, and would be interested in the pre-natal one....but again, I don't see it anywhere on the spa menu.

Thank you again.

I just noticed you had put a link and followed it. Thanks. My doctor had said to make sure I used someone trained and/or certified in prenatal so I guess I still have some questions...but it sounds like others have done it before...and with success.

I guess the best tactic will be to go the spa in person after first boardingwhen I board and talk to the front desk if they have anyone that specialized in it on that sailing. Surely someone on staff can do it.

I'm not too sure if I would go for it onboard - while I am sure they are fully certified masseurs I know any time I have gone for a massage while PG it was not the actual massage as much as the specialized body wedges they had that proped me up off the table so my belly was not squished that made the difference...I guess you could maybe lie on your side or something but to me I would go for the pedicure or facial ratehr than the massage. Just my opinion.:earsgirl:

I did an aromatherpy message on-board when I was 14 weeks pregnant. It wasn't really obvious yet so I did let the spa attendant know and wrote it on my health form when I checked in to the spa. She used extra pillows that I was able to position to be more comfortable, and there were certain oils that she would not use, but others were OK - she knew which were not an option. I found them to be very professional and knowledgable about it.

I have had massages while pregnant here at home...some masseuses use body wedges so you can lie on your tummy--but others just use rolled towels and sheets and stuff to get you comfy on your side and massage you that way. I wouldn't let the lack of wedges bother you.

The reason for someone trained for prenatal is that they will know how much pressure to apply that is safe for baby and also which pressure points to avoid so as not to harm you or the baby.

I think staying away from Deep tissue and swedish massages and you will be okay. A Basic relaxation massage might me safe, but having someone experienced at massaging pregnant women is best.

gosh, i didnt even tell you congratulations!! DUH! :o well... congrats!! is this your first child??

also, i have to agree with DutchsMommy. get a massage from someone who specialises in pregnacy massages. massage therapist have *some* training in all kinds of massages, but its only like a few hours .( its not as detailed as you would think) the schools tend to focus on the basic massages and they have to take special classes in the more exotic massages.

also, massages not only feel good, but they break down toxins in your body and if you dont drink enough water or your body isnt able too eliminate those toxins then it can make you (and your baby) sick.

Congrats! I had a massage while onboard last October and I was 21 weeks. She had me lay on my side and gave me extra pillows and towels to make myself comfortable. She massaged my back and shoulders and then instead of massaging the back of my legs, she had me lay on my back and massaged the front. It was wonderful!!!!!:earseek: I woul also recommend getting the foot and ankle massage towards the end of your cruise!!:teeth:

I cruised on DCL when pregnant in 2002, and specificaly asked about a pregnancy massage. They do not (well, did not in 2002) have pregnancy tables and no one on board was certified in prenatal massage, so I did not get one.

They do have shoulder massages that you can get, though.

Sorry. :(

Thanks all. I guess I'm still uncertain what to do. Will play it by ear.

This is baby # 2 for me.
