I started my trip report - slowly getting it out ;)
The third post has a couple of pictures of POR - one of the windows in our corner room, and two of the view out the door of room 3856.

Awesome! Thanks! Just needed some reassurance!! We will be PIF well before getting there. I know it seems silly to pay for a night that we are technically not using but I really want to guarantee a place for DH to lay his head when we get there. Plus, as you said, it gives us that extra day of dining credits. So, works for us. It makes sense that they hold it...they are/will have received their money already so they have nothing to lose. I will go ahead and fax...should I make it all one fax...room request and letting them know we are coming late? Or separate to ensure it is noted?

It's rare for them to deliberately overbook, but it can happen. More often the problem is rooms which should be available might not be usable (e.g. maintenance issues, etc). They will normally offer an upgrade if something like that happens, rather than a sideways move.

Might as well do it in one as they are both related issues.

:confused3I give up, now on Disney's website, everything seems to be available again (but you have to "check availabilty") and when I do that the dates don't come up as available. Oh well, as long as we have a place to lay our heads, I'll be happy :thumbsup2 I'll be in DISNEY!!!!!!!!

Does anyone know what the price of a coke is at Riverside Mill? I trying to figure out what the break-even point is in buying refillable mugs. The menus on various cites only list the cost of the mugs.

What is my best strategy for getting my request in? We really want joining rooms with my parents, who will be checking in 6-8 hours later than us, but our reservations are "connected". We have garden view royal rooms reserved! Should I fax them? Call? Online check in? And any other tips on what's considered a good room that I should request - corner? 2nd floor? Should my parents also call/fax ahead of time? Any tips are appreciated!! Thanks!

My first tip would be to read the FAQ that is mentioned in the title of this thread, and also to see www.portorleans.org/room-requests.php (which is referenced from the FAQ too). A single fax explaining all the details should be fine, no need to send two.

Thanks Andre... I read all that a while ago when we first booked - guess I need to go back and brush up on it as we get ready for the trip in 27 days!!

After looking around at allears I finally found a listing for coffee and soda at Boardwalk Bakery. I'm going to assume that it's the same cost (and my vague memory of seeing menus goes along with my assumption) as at POR and anywhere else on property.

A soda is 2.59, and a cup of coffee is 2.19. The mug is something like 15.49 (not sure if that includes tax or not), so it depends on how much you actually would buy those sodas and coffees.

Of course, I've bought a mug before and only got ONE cup of coffee in it. Wanted to see if I liked the coffee (nope) and I wanted it as a souvenir. :)

My mickey mail came about 3 weeks before my trip. The ME yellow tags come a little earlier than that from what I understand.

Can someone explain what y'all mean by "Mickey mail". I booked a room only at POR - so, will I get it or not.

No, it only goes out to people who book packages. It's basically vouchers for the components that come with the package.

OK, thanks. I kind of figured that. Would someone just mail me a picture of Mickey so I don't feel left out? :rotfl2:

Thanks Bumbershoot! oddly, the soda is lower than I expected and the coffee higher (2:19 for instant coffee!). I like the mugs too and think they are an inexpensive souvenir. But I've already got a couple of the Pool scene cups. It would take 6 trips to the soda bar to break even. I think it's probably worth it, since we will be there 5 nights.

We found it paid off for us. We had breakfast in the food court at POFQ 4 of our 6 days so we used it then on Coke or iced tea (we don' t like coffee). Plus we spent part of each day by the pool so that gave us at least 6 more uses each (not to mention a couple of evenings)
