I'm debating between staying at POR, where we have always stayed, or trying something new and going to CSR. Its me, DW, DD(6) and DD(1). Thoughts?

I vote staying with POR, it has a lot of extras that CSR doesnt have (like the boat to DTD and the sister resort). CSR is also really widely spread out, which may be a challenge with your young girls. However if you want a change from POR i would give POFQ a shot :thumbsup2

Let it be known that both times I went to these were during Jersey weeks in Nov.

CSR- Resort Grounds: The theming here is really nice. All 3 areas are unique to its section and very well maintained. A nice walk around the whole resort is roughly 15-20 minutes or so.

POR- Resort Grounds: The theming here is also very nice. Just a little different. Southern feel. Both gorgeous grounds though. I'd say just a tad longer to walk around the grounds, but a pleasant stroll again.

CSR- Rooms: Stayed in Casitas 4 which had renovated rooms & was a perfect location. Queen Size beds too.

POR- Rooms: Stayed in Magnolia Mansions. Also Beautifully redone, w/ queen size beds as well.

CSR- Pool The main Pool is awesome. Really nice slide. Plenty of lifeguards on duty. Never Ever, ever crowded. I think the most amount of people there while we stayed was maybe 20. The quieter pools are very nice too.

POR- Pool: This Pool Is very nice as well. Slide is just a tad smaller than CSR but equally nice. the pool always had plenty of people around , but never felt like overcrowded. You always had plenty of chaise loungers to sit at. a lot more kids it seemed too. quieter pools were just that very quiet..

CSR- Food Court: aka. pepper market. I know not many people like the idea of being escorted to you seat, but literally u wait maybe 5 secs, honestly. Never is it packed, the market itself has a nice array of food too. A small gratuity ( maybe $5 ) should cover your server.

POR- Food Court: Although the food selections here are awesome, the way it's set up is like the values. And yes the seating area is bigger, It was always busy, no matter what time of day. Mornings are Chaotic though. Worse lines here than the darn parks...LoL

CSR- Bus Service: The best hands down: Although there are multiple stops, It seems most people grab it at the main one, to go to the parks. Never di we wait for more than 1 bus which were sooo frequent. NEVER did we have to come close to standing either, Going to the parks or returning..

POR- Bus Service: This one was just Eh. Imho. At least heading out to the parks in the morning. I think we waited for an extra bus 3 days going to parks. Coming back from DTD we waited for 3 buses, & forget coming back from Fantasmic. That was like 7 buses... But when we do return, the west stop ( i think) was very close to our mansion, which was nice.
Also POR, Has the Boat ride to DTD, which is a pleasant ride & convenient.

I didn't eat at either of the 2 TS restaurants here, but have heard very good things about both. Also POFQ is just a smaller version of POR, but the New Orleans theming & closer feel, just didn't do it for me. Also the pool is a lil on the kiddish side. CBR I'm just not a big fan of. Layout, Theming, buses. The pool is good though. If I want to get a tropical theme ,then I'll go to the islands, not here. Thats just my $.02. Sorry. Don't mean to offend all of the CBR lovers

My suggestion, ( although its a hard one ) would probably got to CSR. It's a convention hotel , so it's never too crowded.

Either one you pick I'm sure you won't be disappointed.. Have a fun time choosing and once again...Sorry for Rambling here. LoL

I've stayed at all four moderates more than once and would rank them:

#1. and #2. a close tie between CSR and POFQ
#3. PORS
#4. CBR

We prefer the better bus service at CSR and they also have the biggest hot tub on property. We also prefer their main pool and they are the only moderate to have a health club/beauty salon. We also like that we can get food at Cafe Rix, the Pepper Market, the pool bar, or Maya Grill. We also love the white sand beaches and hammocks in the Cabana section and the lovely fountains in the Casistas. We don't care for the Rancho section, but thus far in eight trips have avoided being stuck over there.:rotfl:

However, we do love the ambience and the boat to DTD that PORS has. You can't go wrong with either resort.

We love CSR and have had several great stays there. We really like the theming, the food choices, and the extra amenities at CSR (upgraded toiletries, fitness center, room service). The CSR pool is one of the very best on property, and the buses have always been excellent. I like that CSR has a sliding wooden door between the room and the vanity area. I can get up and get ready (turning on lights, using a hair dryer) without waking the kids. If your little one will be in a pack n play, you could put the pack n play in the vanity area and close the doors if she needs dark or quiet to get to sleep.

We stay deluxe if we don't stay at CSR, but POR would be my next choice if we wanted a moderate and couldn't get CSR.

Our kids were older when we stayed at the CSR, but I have held my "subscribed to this thread" for when the question comes up with younger kids. I hope this will help you:

I can tell you that DH and I love the CSR, and our kids loved it. We've stayed nine times and if it weren't for our recent stays at DVC through friends, we'd be back at the CSR in a heartbeat.

I have stayed at POR consistently the past several years. I love it.

I had two chances to stay at CSR; one when I was asked if I wanted to move due to overbooking (I said no) and once when a friend went down my same week and asked me if I wanted to share expenses and book the same room at CSR, rather than us both paying double occupancy. She said I would like it better due to the more adult atmosphere with the convention type feel. I was really looking forward to another solo trip and hadn't had one in a while, so I turned her down.

The person who maintains the CSR thread is "almost" as good as Andre, that maintains the POR thread. I say that because he would never let me hear the end of it!!!!

That thread alone makes me want to try CSR, but that would be as a solo traveler looking for a more adult place (with the conventioners). Even then, I just love the amentities that POR offers.

With someone with smaller children, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at POR; when they get older, I would try out CSR in a heartbeat.

We've stayed at both.

POR I love the looks of the planation area & love the boatride to DTD.

However, we stayed at CSR our first time this last Dec. The grounds are beautiful. We loved it. Their bus system there is way way better. We rarely waited at all. Often at POR we'd wait ages for the correct bus to arrive. We tried it as we hit a few problems each time at POR....not biggies...but decided it was time for a change.

We booked our next Dec trip on bounceback to CSR as our visit there was tops!

Missytara - I agree that was my original feeling was POR was better suited for younger kids, however, a lot of families are saying that they really like CSR and don't find it overbearing for a convention hotel....I'm leaning CSR just to try it, since it's the only mod I haven't stayed at yet. Anyone else?

I've stayed at both and definitely prefer CSR. The pool is much better and they offer the movies, campfire and daily pool activities for the kids. The arcade is also there along with the playground. Its just perfect.

You must be talking about Kathy (KatMark) :thumbsup2. I recently took over the CSR thread at her request, but I am very much a newbie when it comes to FAQ threads and not yet in the same league as the others. But the CSR thread is awesome - it is Kathy's work updated for 2012! :worship: I make no claim to the content - she has done all the hard work and should be on the staff at CSR because her love for the resort really comes through! :goodvibes
