We arrived at Animal Kingdom for the first time and WOW, what a beautiful lobby! This is definitely on our list of places to stay once we are stroller free!
We checked in at Jiko and we were seated immediately! Yay!
Our waiter was fantastic and here was our view!
We were first served our bread basket and some funky, but tasty butters!
Mike ordered the
Price Edward Island Mussels - with white wine cream, roasted garlic, dill and cinnamon raisin baguette for an appetizer.
YUM! These were delicious and fresh! We shared!
I know some of you are saying, "Yuck, Mussels, I would never eat those!", but let me say, you have to try them! They are not as gross as you think! If cooked the right way, YUMMMMMM, mussels are little morsels of scrumptiousness!!!
Anyway, I ordered the
Chef's Specialty Flatbread - with sun-dried tomato, artichokes, goat cheese and rocket pesto
Oh man, Emily and I scarfed this right up! Everythink about this flatbread was divine!! The goat chease was so creamy and mild, YUM! It melted in your mouth!
On to the entrees! Mike had the
Maize-crusted Pacific Halibut - with Vegetables of the Moment and Tomato-Butter Sauce
Neither Mike, nor I had ever had Halibut, but we new it was a mild, flakey white fish so we were both interested in this dish and we were not dissappointed. The fish was light and flavorful. The maize crust was the perfect crispness and the veggies were tender! As you can tell, I had a bite or two! We highly recommend!
I chose the
Pan-seared Scallops - with cucumber raita salad, grilled papadam and peppedew Vinaigrette
I am a HUGE fan of scallops if they are cooked right and these were perfection! They were large and pan seared with a nice butter crust on the outside but melted on your tongue! I just had to wipe the drool from the side of my mouth!
For dessert, Mike enjoyed the
Pumpkin and Dried Fruit Bread Pudding - with vanilla-honey anglaise and cinnamon ice cream
Mike will always order bread pudding if it's on the menu. It's one of his favorite desserts and this one was devine! He loved every last bite!
I devoured the
Pistachio Creme Brulee - With a chocolate-layered bottom
Now, I am not a creme brulee fan, in fact, I don't think I have ever ordered a creme brule for dessert, but for some reason, this one spoke to me. I think it was the chocolate layer on the bottom and I do like pistachios! I LOVED this dessert! It was amazing! I loved the pudding like custard paired with the snap of the chocolate layer below! Another drool moment!
Mike and I LOVED Jiko and will definitely be returning in the near future. The atmosphere was family friendly, but with a hint of romance! We loved our view of the pond and our waiter was attentive and outstanding! We give Jiko
!!
