Pool Hopping??

I just read on the "Best Pool" thread that pool hopping from Disney resort to resort is NOT allowed. I could have sworn I read somewhere here that pool hopping WAS allowed.

Which is correct?

Pool hopping isn't allowed for WDW guests with the following exceptions:

Pool hopping is allowed among sister resorts, ie POR and POFQ and the All Stars.

DVC members staying on points are eligible to pool hop when it is allowed, and are not eligible to pool hop to SAB or AKL.

they dont allow the pool hopping becuase too many people that arent from the resort many times would be using the pools and people at the resort then couldnot use it.

I think that pool hopping used to be allowed but it is not allowed any longer. As Lori stated, the only ones who can currently pool hop are DVC members staying at a DVC resort using points and then only to certain pools and at certain times.

Hmm... Do they make you show resort ID? I would think if they saw a kid swimming they wouldn't kick him/her out of the pool be the friendly people they are. I think I might try, it they worst that can happen is they kick me out

Yes, they can and will kick you out. Do you really want to do that to yourself or any children that might be with you.

I've seen the lifeguards at the Poly kick out nice looking families with kids quite a bit. They were all very embarrassed about it. I can't imagine being made to look like scum and being escorted out of the pool area because I wasn't a guest!

I have to agree. If you want to swim in a better pool, then pay for the room like the guests of the resort did. If you pay value resort room prices, you get a value pool. Moderate is a little nicer, and so on. It is not fair for the people that pay to stay at Deluxe resorts to have to share the pool with those that didn't. Hard enough sometimes to find a pool chair and room to swim with those that did.

I say this from never having stayed at a deluxe resort, but hope to someday. For now, I will consider myself fortunate to be able to stay at my favorite resort-POR.

Thank you all for this information. I just recently started to plan my 7th trip but the first time to stay on property. One of the "Unofficial" books i am reading does state that you ARE aloud to pool hop. You all just saved me some time and maybe from an embarrasing situation.

Thanks for asking, that is much more than some are willing to do. The Unofficial Guide books really need to get up to date on this, unless you are reading an older version.

When Disney World was much smaller and only had a few resorts and the pools were not attractions in themselves it was not a problem. That is not the case anymore. Therefore the new policy by Disney that the pool is only for the use of the guests of that particular resort. The policy is stated in materials given out at check in and posted at each pool. Port Orleans French Quarter and Riverside share pools as do the All Star resorts.

Disney Vacation Club members can pool hop with restrictions to resorts except Stormalong Bay at the Yacht and Beach Club and the Animal Kingdom Lodge pool.

I am sure regardless of where you stay your pool will be great and water parks are open to everyone and more fun. Enjoy.

I read on allears.net that @ the WL if the pool becomes over crowded they may ask to see your resort key to verify that you are staying at that paticular resort. But the site says that they only do this if it becomes over crowded.

My fil's sister was going to WDW last year and knowing what a WDW nut I am, we were talking about her upcoming trip. Well, she said she couldn't wait to try out the new pools. When I told her that pool-hopping wasn't allowed, she was quite taken aback. Told me that she had always pool-hopped. That when they went to a park for the day, they would pack a big bag with their suits in it and leave it in a locker and then take a bus to one of the resorts for a quick swim. They had never had a problem. When I asked when she had been there last I was told 'oh, about 12 years ago.!!' She was surprised to hear the change. When I explained the reasons she did say it made sense.

So....do people do this? Yep. But, be advised that I have seen people asked for resort IDs and then they have had to pack up and leave. I don't understand why you don't swim where you stay. As a DVC owner I have the option to pool hop but I don't think it would be worth the hassle.

thanks 4 ur help! just fyi i can't pick which hotel im staying at since im going on my senior trip and we have to stay at the same hotel. my mom said she always did this when she was a kid but that was forever ago. i doubt ill have much time to swim ne way. Just curious if they actually enforced this or looked the other way! thanks again.

Michelle, I just want to tell you I hope you have a great Senior trip. Trust me you'll be so busy you won't even have time to think about pool hopping, never mind doing it.

Darn those unoffical guides. That's why I never liked any of them. I think the problem is that when WDW first opened pool hopping was allowed. Many people still have fond memories of their early visits and just have never readjusted themselves. Disney changes constantly and pool hopping is not allowed at all anymore (except us DVC people and even we are limited). The real big change happened when they built SAB. There was a huge problem with people using the pool, on-site guests, off-site guests and locals. They had to do something. You get what you pay for. It's the only fair way.

I don't know why anyone would even want to pool hop, it seems like such a hassle to me. I like to be able to go right back to my room and shower and change right away. To have to get on a bus or in a car to travel back to another hotel seems like a lot of effort to go swimming. I know that at the Universal hotels, they do allow pool pool hopping.

I know at YC/BC they check your room key almost as soon as you enter the pool area. Then you and your children are given wrist bands to wear to identify you as a resort guest.

I'm the OP here and since I started this thread I've switched ressies from POP to POFQ. Thus, I get to pool hop (even though it's only between POR/POFQ)...and it's OK!!!
