Pointy Boat

Oh, so am I nuts? The photos of all 4 boats show a pointed hull. I hope that makes sense.
So then I am reading a pictoral post by someone named gambee, from last month, and hus pictures of the boat it has a rounded front.

Did some googling, found a blog with that name in it. First page shows the Dream. If it's that picture...the roundy end is the back. You can see the pointy, front, end towards the right of the picture.

But maybe we're talking about different pictures. Hard to tell without a link!

The actually hull of the ship below the waterline is rounded in a shape referred to as bolubus it's to help prevent drag and help the ship move threw the water easier. The bow is still pointed for effect

Ships are almost always the *pointy* at the Bow and *dull or rounded * at the stern.

The DCL vessels are designed along the classic lines and style of the Great liners of the 1st half of the 20th century. There are 2 of those liners still around, though not operational. The S/S United States, in Phili. and the RMS Queen Mary in L. A.

The bows when pointy and leaning forward are called *raked* and are designed to cut though the water and heavy seas. Almost all new Cruise vessels have under the water at the bow, a *bulbous bow*, which looks something like a can struck in the bow. These bulbous bows start to push the water away from the hulls as the ship travels forward. Then the wave /water motion creates effect that reduces drag on the hull as she passes though the water.

All sterns (at least underwater), are designed to proved the best water flow toward the propellers and thus maximize thrust, which pushes the hulls though the water.

The bottom line here is simply the hulls are designed provide the best speed with the minimum amount of fuel burned, while at the same time the best stability to minimize rolling/pitching and movement in general. There are also *stabilizers* near the Bow that help in this regard.

I hope that helps.

Just checked out a little of Gambee's Disney Dream review. I like all the pictures and some of the info is correct, but a lot of it is not.

"but a lot of it is not. "

Care to elaborate? I may have spent more time looking at the cruise porn rather than reading the articles... lol

Indeed. Spent two evenings getting to know the Dream. So awesome! I like to know everything beforehand!
