Hello to all, i have a few questions. This will be our first trip to US/Ioa and thinking of SW or DC. It will be myself and son age 10. we will be flying in July 10th thru July14th. There are no plans for a car, so we will need shuttle services as well as restaurants nearby, I read somewhere about renaissance hotel nearby. Is this hotel near the parks i mentioned with shuttle service to and from airport or was i reading something else? Are there close restaurants near this particular hotel. from what i been reading it may be better to stay onsite but there is no shuttle to airport

If it is just you and your son, I'd stay onsite and just take a cab to and from the airport. There is a free shuttle from the onsite hotels to Seaworld.

July is very hot and very busy at the resort. Having the free unlimited express pass and early admission that you get by staying onsite, is a huge bonus as it really minimizes your wait times.

The Renaissance is near SeaWorld and has a free shuttle to/from Universal but not to/from the airport.

You can book the Mears shuttle from the airport to one of the on site hotels. In July, I would definitely stay on site. That way you and your son could easily walk to the parks or take the water taxi to City Walk. There are plenty of restaurants in the parks and City Walk so you wouldn't need a car at all.
You can also take a break during the day and enjoy the on site pools and then go back to the parks later in the day.
The unlimited express access is priceless in the summer!
