Pixie dust on our DREAM vacation! Update 06/08 TR finished!!

You don't even want to know how long we waited for pirates in March...REALLY long! But everything had a wait, so we just did it. :scared1:

My goodness, the park looks so empty! You are getting on and off rides! I LOVE it!!!

The empty park was wonderful as long as it lasted. ;) Unfortunately it didn't last all day. :rotfl2:
But we got quite a few rides in before the crowds picked up. :goodvibes

You don't even want to know how long we waited for pirates in March...REALLY long! But everything had a wait, so we just did it. :scared1:

We don't wait more than 20 minutes, Jen. With going as often as we do, there is always a next time and if the wait is too long, we'd rather go shopping. :scared1: :rotfl2:

Day 7, February 24

“Yes, he is here today!” - Part 2

We got into the left lane and walked right onto the boat. Again it took a while until the boat was “full” and we got to meet the pirates. When we got off we strolled through the gift shop and headed over towards Splash Mountain. We had no intend to ride it, as we didn’t want to get wet and since Big Thunder Mountain was closed we decided to walk towards Liberty Square.
There were lots of stores that had to be checked out on the way and we took our sweet time to get to Liberty Square. Once there we decided to try to ride the Haunted Mansion. But the line was 15 minutes and we thought that it might be a better idea to pick up a Fast Pass for Peter Pan before the return time would be too late. We were excited to see that we got surprise Fast Passes too.

IMG_3865.jpg

They were for Philharmagic. We had a little time to kill, so we walked towards Fantasyland

DSC_0262.jpg

and decided to start playing “Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom”. We activated our game at a window behind TinkerBell’s Treasures and started casting spells to save the Magic Kingdom.

DSC_0265.jpg

There were quite a few other people playing as well and so we just checked out Sir Mickey’s while waiting.

DSC_0263.jpg

DSC_0264.jpg

It got considerably warmer and we were starting to feel the heat and wanted to go on a ride where we could sit down and just relax. Now that ride for us is the Peoplemover.
By then crowds had picked up quite a bit and we could not believe that even the Peoplemover had a line yet. But it didn’t take long and we were on our way up the elevator and onto the ride. It is always so nice to just sit and people watch from up there.
By then we were still discussing if and where we would have some lunch. Wherever we looked the restaurants were full and so we decided to just return to our room and grab some snacks out of the fridge.
There were still the fast passes for Peter Pan, so we quickly got into the Fast Pass line and within five minutes we were on the ride and flying over London. It was around noon when we finally headed towards the exit

and slowly walked back to Bay Lake Tower.

DSC_0274.jpg

The Tower feels more like a condo than a hotel and we were very happy with that.

DSC_0276.jpg

Once we were back to our room we decided on having lunch right there. We had bought several salads, some dipping sauces and nachos and we snacked on them for quite some time.

IMG_3871.jpg

IMG_3870.jpg

By 2 pm I decided to just hop down to the shop in the Contemporary and pick up a few stamps for our postcards.

To be continued ..........

We saw a ton of people doing the doing the sorcerer Mickey thing, but it was crazy busy and we never tried it.

We saw a ton of people doing the doing the sorcerer Mickey thing, but it was crazy busy and we never tried it.

You really should try it. It is SO much fun! I wish we would have gone back and played a little more, but we only had that one day/morning to try it out in February.

We were so lucky with our view! :goodvibes
We could see all of WDW from there! :thumbsup2

How fun you have the same picture as the one above the bed! I really liked the picture, well, I liked the whole room. Such a modern feel to it! :goodvibes

We had a lakeview booked, what did you book?

We booked a Magic Kingdom view, now I just hope we get a high floor to get the great view.

I've heard a lot about the Sorcerer's of the Magic Kingdom. It sounds like fun.

I saw those Krispy Kreme's on the table too. ;)

Hey Karin!

Since I haven't had much time for DISing, I decided to pick one of your reports to follow and this is the one!

I just got back from another weekend trip, complete with a visit to Cali Grill where we had Ron as our server again. I am so glad you recommended him, he was fantastic this second time around.

I am loving your trip report! We are going on our first cruise next May and then probably staying at CR for 2 nights and only doing MK before driving back home. Your pictures and report are making me want to be there right now!:thanks:

Trip reports just as awesome as your dining reports :goodvibes

I love it when surprise fast passes spit out!!!

I am anxious to see what the card game is all about. Do you think it is more of a boy game or a girl game?

Still can't get over your view!!!

I'm loving your back at the room break!!! Mnnn....chips and salsa are our must have vacation room/verandah snack! I can't wait to really enjoy that. It won't really happen at WDW for us this trip as with only one park day...we won't be leaving the park! But I'm so excited for Vero I can hardly stand myself!

That's what I wanted in the beginning, but we were too late for one, so we settled for the lake view and were SO happy with it in the end!
If you do online check-in they will give you a choice of floors, and we got exactly what we choose! :woohoo:

It is really good fun! I cannot wait for summer when we will have time to really play the Sorcerers of the MK game.
We just didn't have time enough to play in February. ;)
Did you expect us to go to WDW and NOT visit KK? :rotfl2:

I am glad you picked this one, as it is the newest! And I hope you will be along for the summer one as well - by then I should have all the others done and I guess no more PTR for me either. ;)

Yeah for asking for Ron again! He really knows how to make your time there special.
He definitely needs to let me know where is going to be transferred to when CG closes for refurb, so we can change to that restaurant too! ;) :lmao:

I am so happy that you like my trip report. :goodvibes

Beware! Cruising with Disney is addictive! We went on our first cruise in 2009 and I could have sworn it would be our only cruise. Now we are taking cruises no 8 and 9 back to back during this summer. ;) :thumbsup2
:woohoo: a stay that the CR! That's awesome! We are going to stay there pre-cruise this summer and we do NOT intend to go anywhere but MK either. ;)

Trip reports just as awesome as your dining reports :goodvibes

Thank you! I just love to share our experiences and love for Disney!

I love it when surprise fast passes spit out!!!

I am anxious to see what the card game is all about. Do you think it is more of a boy game or a girl game?

Still can't get over your view!!!

It was awesome to have a second set of FPs, especially since the MK filled up quickly.
I think this game appeals to both girls and boys. There are so many different spells to cast, it was so much fun. Can't wait for summer and playing it more! :thumbsup2

For us those breaks are just great. All those items on the table are just available during vacation and we love them, so why not take advantage of them during a little break. And especially with a view like the one we had. We loved that balcony! :goodvibes
I am sure you can relax at Vero and enjoy some leisurely time at the beach, having a picnic! :cloud9:

Day 7, February 24

“Yes, he is here today!” - Part 3

By 2 pm I decided to just hop down to the shop in the Contemporary and pick up a few stamps for our postcards.
We had brought our own postcards, which had been designed by Tom and which we wanted to send to some friends. Since they were a bit larger than usual, they didn’t want to sell us stamps that would not be okay, so they sent us to the front desk.
There they tried to figure out how much to put on the postcards, but didn’t succeed either. So we decided to just head over to the Post Office and mail them from there. We got into the car and drove over to Crossroads, went to the Post Office and sent off all our cards, then back to the car we went and we drove back to Downtown Disney, to do a little World of Disney shopping.
There was still one thing on our mind, that I wanted to take a look at, the new Dooney and Bourke bags. But before we headed to that department we looked through the whole store and picked up a few bits and pieces that we wanted to take home as souvenirs. Since we do not have a Disney Store anywhere in Austria, shopping at World of Disney is always a treat and we buy a lot more than we usually thought we would. So, once we had most of our purchases in our basket we walked to the Dooney and Bourke isle. The Cast Member helping us was very nice and I think I had her take down ALL the cartoon bags they had until I found the perfect one I wanted. It again was a bit on the pricey side, but at least we got our 10% Annual Passholder discount.
We paid for all our goodies, then headed back to the car and while driving towards the Magic Kingdom we decided that another visit to Krispy Kreme would be heavenly, so we just used our GPS for the shortest way there. And indeed their “Hot Now” sign was on, so we got in line and while still in line we looked at each other and agreed that we would get another box of doughnuts for the Contemporary guards.

IMG_3875.jpg

Tom got some

IMG_3877.jpg

coffee and I got some Diet Coke and once we had our boxes in hand we sat at the back of the store, watching the doughnuts being fried and glazed, while munching our own wonderfully soft and still warm treats.

IMG_3878.jpg

When we had finished our “gourmet” meal, we headed back to Bay Lake Tower and once back in our room we had about an hour to pack everything up.
Tom made a list of what went into our Owner’s Locker, while I tried to fit everything into our suitcases. It was quite a task, especially since I wanted to pack our small Disney Cruise Line trolley into one of our bags, so we could travel a bit lighter. Finally the task was more or less done, but by then it was really about time to get ready for our dinner at the California Grill. So we got changed and got ready, then just headed down to the connecting walkway and over to the Contemporary.
There was a long line of people signing in and we were cutting it close to our reservation. And then finally it was our turn to check in. Once the Cast Member had found our name on the list, I asked my question. Would Ron be working that day?

Day 7, February 24

“Yes, he is here today!” - Part 3

Would Ron be working that day? The Cast Member looked on his list and yes, indeed, his answer was, “Yes, he’s here today”.
So I put in a request to have him as our server, then I was told that there was a chance our request would not be met, but they would try any way. We were also told there would be at least a 20 minute wait until our table was ready.
No problem, as we are used to the California Grill running late and we had plenty of time until Wishes, which we wanted to view from the platform on Bay Lake Tower again. The elevator was right there and waiting for us to get on and together with a few other guests, we were taken to the California Grill.
Since we were supposed to have a 20 minute wait or longer, we were talking about going outside onto the observation deck to take a few photos, when our pager went off after barely 5 minutes. We were led to our table and told that yes, Ron would be our server.
Our table had Mickey confetti

DSCF1401.jpg

all over it and we sat down, were handed the menus and waited for what was still to come. A little while later we were greeted with hugs from the ever smiling Ron.
We chatted for a little while and then he left us to study the menu again. It didn’t take long and Ron returned with two glasses of

DSCF1378.jpg

complimentary Prosecco. We chatted some more and handed him his goody-bag. He then told us that they had a new restaurant manager and that he was from Austria too. He had been looking for him to introduce us to him, as he was a very nice guy. So a few minutes later, Ron returned with the manager in tow. It was fun to see another Austrian in charge here at Disney and Michael told us that he had worked for a huge hotel chain before he had moved to Disney and that he was really happy with the change. We talked for quite some time and Michael came back to our table lateron in the meal again. Once he had left, Ron came by to take our food orders and fill our water glasses again.
And while we were still talking about meeting the manager, Ron again surprised us with an Amuse Bouche, a tasting of the

DSCF1381.jpg

Heirloom Sweet Potato Soup, Smoked Bacon, Red Pears, Minus 8 Verjus, which was absolutely delicious. We were then served a basket full of still warm

DSCF1386.jpg

Sourdough Bread and some

DSCF1385.jpg

Butter, sprinkled with sea salt. We both nibbled a bit of the bread spread with the butter until our main courses arrived. And not only our main courses. Ron treated us to more complementary wine.

DSCF1387.jpg

Tom had ordered

DSCF1395.jpg

some sushi,

DSCF1396.jpg

the Spicy Kazan Roll, Crab, Shrimp, Bay Scallops, Tuna and Fireball Sauce and

DSCF1397.jpg

the California Roll, Jumbo Lump Crab, Avocado and Cucumber. I had ordered an old favourite of mine,

DSCF1391.jpg

the Grilled Pork Tenderloin, Goat Cheese Polenta, Roasted Mushrooms, Zinfandel Glaze and Sage. We both enjoyed our main courses very much

DSCF1398.jpg

and took our time to fully enjoy them. Since we were full we were thinking about skipping dessert, but while we were still thinking about it, Ron served us two glasses of again,

DSCF1403.jpg

DSCF1404.jpg

complimentary dessert wine. Tom thought there was something he might be able to handle, so he ordered

DSCF1409.jpg

Heather’s Cookie Plate Mocha Toffee Bars, Peanut Butter Whoopie Pies, Butterscotch Crackle Cookies, and Valrhona Hot Chocolate. I have a very soft spot for breadpudding and there was one on the menu, so I was going to order the

DSCF1408.jpg

DSCF1407.jpg

Valrhona Chocolate Croissant Bread Pudding, served with Caramel Sauce and Dark Chocolate Sorbet. Both desserts lived up to their description and we really enjoyed them. Once we were done, we settled the bill, hugged Ron goodbye and he went to hide his goody bag in the manager’s office.
We took the elevator down to the 4th floor and walked over to Bay Lake Tower. There was still time left until we would have to go up to the platform to watch the fireworks, so we put our evening wear into the suitcases, slipped into something more casual and finished packing. At around 9.40 we went to the first floor, showed our Keys to the World and were escorted to the top floor again.
There were already a lot of people there, but we still found a nice spot to watch a part of the The Magic, The Memories and You show and then Wishes started. Again, it was awesome to watch from this angle and we really enjoyed the fireworks and music. Once the fireworks were over we returned to our room to finish packing. All our luggage was stored close to the door and when it was all done we went to sit out on the balcony for a little while longer.

IMG_3881.jpg

We were just in time to see the Electric Water Pagent go past.

It was past 11pm when we finally went back inside and decided to go to bed. We had nearly a full day to spend at Disney the next day and we needed to catch up on sleep for it.

 Karin! Hello from the Central Gulf Coast! Lots of catching up to do, but of course, the first thing that caught my eye would be those incredibly yummy desserts!:thumbsup2

The EWP is one of my all time favorite happenings at WDW - reminds me of all the trips with my kids and how we watched it every year from our CR or Poly balcony. Sweet memories.:cloud9: I so enjoy reading (and seeing) your wonderful memories too! :goodvibes

Hi Christine!
I hope you enjoy your trip to the Gulf coast! :goodvibes
Wow for staying in touch on vacation .... I always find that hard to do. ;)

EWP that evening was just the icing on the cake! It was such a wonderful (yet short) vacation and we really enjoyed it to the fullest.

Day 8, February 25

„Goodbye for now, but we will return soon!“ - Part 1

Again, our plan was to go to The Wave for breakfast, but since we did not have an ADR we just forgot about it and Tom made coffee and tea again. There were still some doughnuts left, so we sat on the balcony

DSC_0289.jpg

DSC_0306.jpg

DSC_0307.jpg

and enjoyed our breakfast. At around 8.30 we started to check the room for anything we might have forgotten to pack, Tom took the trash out and we called bell services to pick up our luggage.
It only took about 10 minutes and a porter arrived, commenting on the Owner’s Locker box being pretty popular around here. A little before 9 o’clock Mousekeeping was asking when we would leave and we told them that we would be gone within the next 10 minutes. One last check of all the drawers and we were all set.
We took the elevator down to the forth floor and used the walkway to walk over to the Contemporary resort. It was a short walk over to the Monorail stop and we hopped on the next one coming in.
We got off at the Ticket and Transportation Center and changed to the Epcot Monorail. A Monorail had just pulled out and we had to wait for a little while, but since we were first in line we were able to get a seat and off to destination Epcot. We have not used the Monorail to Epcot in quite some time, so we really enjoyed our trip over and the loop around the park in particular. We got off and through bag check in no time at all. There were long lines at the first two turnstiles, but we walked a little to our right and there were empty turnstiles.

IMG_3885.jpg

Crowds were moderate and we decided to hop onto Spaceship Earth first. But just as we were approaching the line a huge group, and I DO mean HUGE group of teenagers was getting in the line. Made us rethink our decision and we just kept on walking. Next stop was Soarin. The Land Pavillion

DSC_0312.jpg

was busy, lots of people at Sunshine Seasons, Fast Passes were for later in the afternoon, which would not work and stand by wait time was about 30 minutes. And then another HUGE group of teenagers approached and got in line. So Soarin’ was thanks, but no thanks for us.
Well, let’s try Mission Space then. Another short walk over to Mission Space – wait times were 5 minutes for team green and 10 minutes for team orange.

IMG_3887.jpg

DSC_0320.jpg

DSC_0322.jpg

We looked around, NO teenage group, so we picked up our orange cards and got in line. No later than when we joined the line, it stopped and an announcement came on that they were having technical difficulties and it would take a while. We thought we would see and very soon the line started moving again, it moved slowly, but it moved. It took us about 20 minutes to get on the ride, and it was as fun as always. Once we got off we had a look around the gift shop and some fun with some hats, that had to be tried on.

IMG_3892.jpg

So after some time we headed over to Test Track, not to ride it, but to check out the cars they are having on display. We were taking our sweet time looking at the cars and by then it was already around 11am and the countries were open. Since we had only had a doughnut breakfast, our goal was to eat around the world. We walked over towards Mexico

DSC_0325.jpg

DSC_0337.jpg

DSC_0338.jpg

and walked through the pavilion, then on to Norway.

DSC_0340.jpg

DSC_0341.jpg

There was a long line for Akershus, but this was not where we were heading. We wanted to dine in China.

There was a long line for Akershus, but this was not where we were heading. We wanted to dine in China.

When we walked up to the Lotos Blossom Café we noticed that there were already a few topiaries up for the Flower and Garden Festival.

DSC_0346.jpg

IMG_3896.jpg

After photos were taken we walked inside the restaurant, were handed a menu and soon enough we had ordered and were waiting for our food. I carried the tray over to the dining room, while Tom got some dipping sauces and we sat and shared our order of

IMG_3897.jpg

Potstickers and the

IMG_3899.jpg

Orange Chicken with Steamed Rice. We sat and people watched for a while until the restaurant started to fill up a bit. There was still a bit of China to explore, before we walked towards Africa and then finally arrived in Germany. I knew I wanted to have a sweet treat in the Karamell Kuche,

DSC_0350.jpg

so we got in line, ordered a

IMG_3912.jpg

Dark Chocolate covered Strawberry and some Caramel Popcorn and had a nice chat with the Cast Member there, who was very surprised when we ordered in German. After our purchases we walked through the stores, checked out the new T-shirts,

IMG_3902.jpg

IMG_3905.jpg

hats and other goodies, before we walked over to the lagoon, found a bench to sit on and I had now time to enjoy my strawberry. We sat for a little while, enjoying the sunshine and then headed towards the next topiary we had found, SnowWhite and the Seven Dwarfs.

IMG_3914.jpg

IMG_3915.jpg

IMG_3916.jpg

A few more steps and we had reached Italy and then it was on to America. Tom wanted to try the

IMG_3918.jpg

IMG_3919.jpg

Chili-Cheese Hot Dog with fries, so again, we got in line and ordered one. We sat at a table by one of the windows and tried the Hot Dog. Well, none of us liked it very much and we ended sharing the fries and Coke and most of the Hot Dog ended up in bin.
