Dickey's first wife was an Indigenous Canadian,Sandy "Bluesky" Wabegijig,whom the Song was named for.

I think that relationship was the beginning of a lifelong interest in Indigenous people for Dickey.

Dickey Betts passed away this morning at the age of 80.

He has moved on up into the Blue Sky.

Rest in Peace Brother Dickey.

Lynyrd Skynyrd now has no remaining original members-we are losing all original members of the great Southern bands fast.

During their coverage of today's Talladega 500,FOX just acknowledged Dickey's passing saying the Allman Brothers with Dickey and Duane on guitar had always been the soundtrack of the Talladega infield.
