I spoke with a few CMs this morning at the rope and they both speculated that DL and DCA are now back to full capacity. I'm not sure that's true, however it was especially crowded today. It's definitely the most people I've seen at the park since the pandemic began. You can see from one of my pics below that there were more guests at rope drop this morning than there's been in recent months.
At rope drop, we all made for PP, of course. I always like it when there's a CM towards the castle entrance and they work to manage the PP rush by stopping guests and then escorting them en masse to the PP entrance. One CM stopped us this morning and said that no one was to pass him or to run, otherwise they'd be pulled out of line. I like that policy and wish they employed it regularly. However, there was a minor flaw in that strategy today. As we were about to enter Fantasyland, a triumvirate of runners emerged from the Snow White's Grotto side path, sprinted ahead of us all and snatched first place. It made us all a little mad that the CM didn't stop them. It felt like we'd been held back while they were allowed to cheat everyone else. However, as I olften try to remind myself, -- and often say to friends -- this is a very First World, one-percenter problem ;-).
I met a very nice lady with her two young children at the rope. They were in town from Reno... to spend an entire week at DL. I like her style! ;-). A short time later I met a cool couple from Texas. The husband told me that they got engaged 15 years ago on the Michigan Avenue Bridge in Chicago (my hometown). I then told them that I've skated (with my Rollerblades) over that bridge at least 1,000 times . Lastly, I met two very cool and kind women from Seattle. It was about noon although they'd just arrived at the park. Neither of them had been in years. One of the interesting things they said to me was that in Seattle it's not common for people to share a bench and then strike up a conversation, as I did. We talked, joked, etc. for nearly half an hour. I always enjoy talking with other guests, especially when they're willing to share stories of a special park memory or something of that ilk.
Buzz Lightyear was exceptionally quirky today. In short, I got at least three different cruisers with wonky guns, four times my score didn't come through and, the final insult, I broke 2M but exceeded the ≈ 2,097,000 threshold and my score reset. Also, shortly after my first ride of the day began, I could smell dope.... in the attraction! Someone was either smoking or vaping. That offends me for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that it shows a lack of all regard or courtesy for and towards other guests. If you must smoke, at least have the decency to do it outside so that you don't bother the other guests... and also there's a greater chance that you'll be ejected from the park. Again, it was a very odd day for Buzz .
Another of the day's bright spots was when I met a young woman from mainland China. She was dressed in an historically-accurate Ming Dynasty imperial robe. She spoke minimal English but her friend was fluent with no accent. She explained that the young woman had nearly three million followers on Chinese TikTok (which apparently doesn't work here). But she's beginning to build her American TikTok acct and already has approx. 29,000 followers. Pics of that and other things below.
