Palo Brunch Questions

We will be sailing on our first Disney cruise in December and I have a few questions about Palo...
1. Do you prefer the first sea day for brunch or would you wait until day 6? (Days 3 and 4 are island stops and day 5 we are celebrating one of our kids' birthdays).
2. Is the dress code for brunch any different than dinner?
3. Can you take a "to go" box - for desserts and such?

Thank you!
Megan

We generally do the first sea day. Before our tummies have gotten overly full for a long period of time. Later in the cruise, we've already had too much to eat every day to enjoy it.

Dress code is technically the same:
Dress Code: So that we may provide an enjoyable and refined dining experience for all Guests, please be advised that jeans, shorts, capri pants, flip-flops and tennis shoes are not permitted. We thank you for your understanding and your cooperation with the following dress requirements at both dinner and brunch.

  • Men: Dress pants and dress shirt; jacket is optional
  • Women: Dress or pantsuit

However, in my experience, brunch is a little less formal - more garden party/tea than fancy dinner. But still "nicer" than cruise casual.

I've read that some servers will fix up a to go box. Many won't. It's supposed to be a fancy experience, not a "doggie bag" meal.

I would say go earlier in the cruise. That way, if you love it, you can probably fit in a 2nd visit later in the week! I prefer brunch over dinner also.

Thanks for the input. We have a brunch reserved on the first day so we'll keep that. Also, I was thinking more if I couldn't enjoy dessert because I've indulged too much earlier, would I be able to take them back to the cabin. Not so much ordering tons of food and getting doggie bags. Disney Fantasy, what do you mean for your children? I thought Palo was strictly adults only? Or did they give you a box so that you could share with your kiddos?
Thanks!

I think they mean if you tell the server, "my kid would love these little tarts" they might be willing to box some up to take to go for ur kid to eat. I personally haven't done this since there are so many desserts all over the ship, but I know doggie bags happen.

Concierge guests can order Palo in their room. That way the kids get to enjoy Palo, also.

We aren't doing the first sea day just because our kids are younger and we want them to get comfortable with the club and nursery at first without being paged to pick them up. People seem to be dressed a little more casually at brunch vs dinner (at least in our experience - like I see more women in dresses at dinner vs. slacks and a nice top at brunch). They won't give you leftover food that you ordered to take with you but some people say they fill their plate up with desserts and can't starts/finish it and take them to go (we've never done this personally or seen it done at any of the 6-7 brunches we've been to). There are quite a few tables where they seem to take a "break" between their entrees and desserts and they just sit there and enjoy the peace and view and their dining companions company (I imagine these aren't people with young children who know they may be paged by the nursery - can you tell that happened to us? ;) ).

I much prefer brunch on the Wonder vs Fantasy though b/c on the Wonder, you get the little tour (or skip it) and then you can serve yourself things at the buffet vs. on the Fantasy, we had to wait for a server to escort us through the buffet each time and wait if people were on a tour or just standing there deciding what they wanted and chit chatting with a server - it was kind of annoying and took up time (I don't want to stand their waiting 5 minutes to ask someone for a piece of cheese and some fruit when I can easily grab it myself). I wonder what the reasoning behind the difference on those two ships is.

We were on the Fantasy last week. We didn't finish our pizzas from Palo brunch and when we asked our waiter for a to-go box to share with our children, we were politely told no. No idea if this is a new or consistent policy but the head waiter came over and said they are no longer allowing food to be taken from Palo or Remy to protect the "experience".

Our cruise was our first cruise ever, and so I preferred to book Palo on Day 6 so that we could use the first two sea days to get adjusted to the ship and the lifestyle onboard. For us, it was the perfect solution!
