Packing food in checked baggage?

We're in the home stretch before our first cruise!

I've joined the FE exchange for our group and part of our gift includes some Canadian candies. Can I pack these in my checked baggage or must I put them in my carry-on baggage?

You are allowed to put them in your checked luggage. Be aware of the possibility of exposure to high and low temperatures in the plane or out on the tarmac. Also be aware that the density and consistency of some candies may make it more likely that the TSA examines your luggage.
