Is there really a $1700 difference between the 3/2 and 3/9 cruise for 2A2K in a 4B? Why such a big difference with just one week between them?

They are different ports as well - in the past the Easterns have been more expensive in general, but it may also be that more schools are out that week? I'm not really sure...

The prices have really gone up, I think it happens every year, but still... I was just checking the opening day prices for 2018 and there's a 5E 2A for $3613 for the Feb 10, 2018 cruise. Today I see the same cruise sailing on Feb 9, 2019, same category and number of people for $4,354.74. That's almost $750 more for the same cruise.

I'm worried we won't be able to go to the Feb 16th cruise we had planned... :/

I'm worried also. We want this Feb 16 cruise too. I will be able to see tomorrow(gold). This is so stressful!

Do you think you can let me know what you're quoted tomorrow? We wanted a 4C, but now we're not sure if we'll have to go lower or maybe wait until fall.

I'm worried the Feb 2 2019 cruise might not work out for us, no one has quoted that one yet. I can't book til Wednesday. Not happy with the prices I'm seeing :(

Same question as we were looking at 3/16. I thought eastern itineraries were LESS not more because of the additional day at sea and fewer port fees on the eastern.

Doesn't seem right, does it? I made sense of it in my mind when I considered the extra activities onboard, feeding everyone as no one can get off the ship and all the fuel spent going where ever we are going. I think people have mentioned the port fees on the western are less than the eastern ones charge but I'm not sure where they got their figures from.

I found a Touring Plans article that states the Western port fees are more than the eastern. So a slightly higher fee per port and an extra port day (paying the additional day’s fee) means that portion of the cruise is more. When we’ve priced eastern vs. western the westerns were always more.

To be fair port fees DO NOT drive the differences in pricing. In 2016 the port fees for a 7 day eastern were $184 for two guests and for a 7 day western were $200-$242 for two guests depending on the number of ports.

That’s not significant or causing the price differences.

It looks like 3/2 to 3/9 is the break between non-spring break and spring break pricing. I would guess the 3/16 cruise will be similarly priced to 3/9.

I'm looking at the 3/16/19 western itinerary also. It's Spring Break for me, so I am guessing the price will be higher compared to earlier dates in March.

Thanks! I was hoping to do the 3/9 cruise so we could celebrate DH's actual birthday on the ship, but we'll cruise a week earlier if we can save $1700. I wasn't expecting such a big difference in price. (editing to add that we're new to cruising so ports aren't that important to us at this time - they're all new to us).

Magic 3/31/19 5-night Western
G 7A 2A/1K $3,736.86 [1433.12|1433.12|870.62] no ins/trans yes OBB

9B for the same cruise and passengers would have been $3,309.36
