This was something I have wanted to do forever. My sister and her family were chosen years ago and I have been envious ever since. I read every post I could find on these boards. All said, "Get there early!" So, we did! We drive from CSR, valet parked at CR at 7:00 for a 9:00 opening and walked over. We were there about an hour before any other guests except those with character breakfasts. We stayed to the left and chatted with any CM we saw. We had a great time hanging with a CM named David, taking pictures and waiting. Our family of 4 all wore Mickey shirts as well. At about 8:00, a CM came to David and he whispered to her. At this point, we were still the only family really waiting to get in. She held up a paper to me that said, " Mickey needs a family to help him open the MK today. Will you help?". I said YES!!!! She escorted us to the turnstile and the rest is history. I never heard so many people tell us, " The early bird catches the worm!"
I love it! We're doing this on our first morning. Taking a taxi over to the gates around 7:30am wearing our matching "first family vacation" shirts that I'm making for me and my 3 kids!!!! :cheer2: But we are all understanding that we might not get to be Family of the Day and regardless we'll have a great time!!! :dance3:

How magically amazing!!!!
The memories of that will stay with you forever!!! :goodvibes

We were chose last time to ride in the AK Jingle Jammin Parade. The CM actually asked one of our friends with us and he just said "Sure..."
Then nochalatnly says "They asked us if we wanted to ride on a float during the parade, I said OK" I started jumping up and down screaming like I jsut won the lottery!!! :cheer2:

Thanks for the heads up... think we'll give this Early Bird gig a whirl while we're there ;)

My boyfriend would LOVE to do this, so much so that he constantly watches YouTube videos of opening the parks! I'm hoping next time we go, we can do this!

We were chosen to open parks in 2001! My kids were only 2 and 3 at the time now they are teenagers! It was something I will never forget. My son was so shy at the time he kind of covered his eyes, my daughter was more than happy to throw some pixie dust (mickey confetti) into the air. It was before photo pass was everywhere and we only got one picture of all of us on the truck but my husband taped some of it...he even left the camera on and we have terrific shots of the ground :). Congrats, it will always be something you will remember.

Awesome - you'll never forget the experience!

We got to do it 5 years ago - it was an awesome experience for us. We arrived before park opening to have breakfast at the castle and when we got to the turnstile, the CM asked if we wouldn't mind being a bit late for breakfast. Pluto was awesome with my youngest. She actually got Mickey to OK Pluto sitting up front on the train ride with us.

We had about 15 minutes alone with characters before the train ride to the front of the park. Full story in my signature.

We are leaving in 3 weeks, and reading these posts just gives me chills! I have tears reading these! I am so happy for you all and can't wait for rope drop!!

congrats!! that is so cool! :cool1:

i wonder if they ever choose people without kids for family of the day...:confused3 guess i need to have some babies quickly; my trip is a month away!! :lmao:

We were chosen last year to be Grand Marshalls of the afternoon parade in MK and let me tell you, we both cried when we were picked~
What an absolutely marvelous memory we have of that special day! I totally understand how happy you were to be chosen as the family to open the park.
:cloud9:

Oh my goodness! CONGRATS! That is SO awesome!

Okay, questions! ;)

1. You said that you stayed to the left. (Is that the area NEAR the entrance for people with dining reservations?) Or is that TOO FAR to the left?

2. I've always wondered if folks specifically express their hope/interest/desire to be Family of the Day? Did you say it outright, or just hint about it? Or not mention it at all?

Sorry for the questions! BUT inquiring minds wanna know! :)
