** Official Star Wars Land Discussion Thread **

I don't think it looks huge - it looks like it will be about the size of Tomorrowland, which is still plenty big. However, considering the amount of time and money will go into it I hope it's big enough to be worth all the renovation inconvenience. Would be interesting to see the map for Disney World since they have way more room to play with down in Florida.

Keep in mind it looks huge, but it was overlaid on top of a park map which does not show ride buildings. But the SW land does show ride buildings which makes the comparison look pretty bad. Once you look at a satellite image and see the other show buildings (Pirates, IASW, IJ, HM) it looks similar in terms of attraction density.
The article also has it shown over a satalite image.

What's really exciting is that the MiceAge article says it's due to open December 2018!!! Prior to this most people were speculating on 2019 or 2020.

Very exciting but I have to admit I didn't read the entire article. Did anyone see where this information came from?
Hopefully it's not just the MC rumor machine at work again.

After how much new Fantasyland at wdw changed even after they released the plans to the public, I'm taking anything released now with a grain of salt.

I agree about this not being 100% believable - until Disney releases information straight from their own horse I will take everything else I read as rumor. Size, dates, layout, all of it is just speculation!

If this ends up being the real plan, I think that it will turn out rather nice. It looks like the train will also see an improvement, as that area behind the Big Thunder Ranch hasn't been the most visually exciting, and now it looks like there will be waterfalls and maybe a peek into Star Wars Land.

The only thing that I am not entirely excited about is the new style of land they seem to be going for, which is intricate and intense themeing, but few attractions. They did this with Carsland, and it's why I rarely spend any time there. I go in for my ride on RSR and then leave and don't visit again for the rest of the trip. Yes, it's beautiful, but if there's nothing to do there then I'm not going to spend time there. Unfortunately I see the same for Star Wars Land, a visit to ride the main attractions and then on to to the rest of the park because there's nothing else to do there. At least in a place like Adventureland, which is lacking in many attractions, it is a major thoroughfare so I walk through there quite a bit on my trips. Star Wars Land, like Toontown, will be out of the main passages, requiring you to make a conscious choice to go there. For this reason I often don't even go to Toontown on my visits, there's just no point. I think Star Wars Land will still hold more interest for me than Toontown or Carsland, but it just doesn't look like a place you would spend a good chunk of your day like you can in other lands. Maybe the dining options will make up for this. If they can bring a Blue Bayou type experience into the land, that would be awesome.

Still, I prefer the style of several attractions squished into a smaller area, like Fantasyland. There's so much to do in one place, I love it!

Part of me hopes they incorporate the new movies more then the old, as it is time for the new generation to have their story. I also believe they will try and distance themselves a bit from the Episode I, II, and III part of the franchise. But part of me would love to have a Mos Eisley style structure for the shops and food distribution. Something similar to when the storm troopers went door to door looking for the droids.

It looks HUGE....but with only 2 attractions??? I heard the 3rd one was scrapped due to the budget.

That was just Mice Age reporting. The original plans only mentioned two attractions, both E tickets. Mice Age mentioned the third attraction in the same breath they said it was being scrapped. Pretty lame I think. Disney never promised a third attraction and there are no other reports that there was going to be a third attraction. They may have been considering it, but to claim they scrapped something that was never announced in a land that hasn't even broken ground yet was part of their anti-CEO rhetoric. In any case the idea was a transportation attraction (think Red Car Trolley), so it wasn't much of a guest eater.

No sources. Just MC rumor. That being said, the map outline is pretty intricate. I imagine they have some sort of source for this. I also imagine change is still likely at any time. Nothing is certain unless announced by Disney, and even then they can change their minds. Same thing with the December 2018 opening date. I can believe it since there was an interview with one of the big Disney guys saying he wanted it built ASAP, but we're still dealing with a land that hasn't broken ground. So, we'll see.

What a great and insightful post!
We feel the same way. We really appreciate the tremendous themeing and detail of CL but we mostly just walk through it slowly, ride one or two things and then were done.
I would think Disney would have learned about content after how DCA was initially received.

Aloha,

I have been following Miceage for about 10 years and historically it has been very accurate with its Miceage Updates. The site features outstanding contributors who work very hard in bringing the latest and greatest information about Disneyland to us Walt Disney fans. Forums like this would not exist if we all waited for the "official" word from Walt Disney personnel. We would just all follow the Disney blog. Its fun to speculate and we should appreciate the efforts of the Miceage staff on our behalf. I would advise not to belittle their efforts unless any of you can do better.

With that said, from what I have read to date at various forums, I have the impression SWL is going to be masterpiece...the gold standard for total theme/ atmosphere immersion...which Walt Disney takes great pride in providing us...which will be highly interactive with robots/ drones/ characters randomly roaming SWL. Miceage Update stated the marching orders is for an opening date of Dec 2018. I don't know about you, but I will drink to that! And if the opening date slips to June of 2019, that is still sweet music to me.

As for height concerns. I think it is way too early to worry about that. The target audience and corresponding Safety regulations will be the guiding force. Thinking out loud, I am assuming the principal audience to be starting at the age of five. Just a wild assumption on my part based upon the age my son became interested in SW. The vast majority of guests will be five or older...I would be surprised if SWL featured any toddler rides. I think the concern for toddler rides is one of the major reasons SWL is NOT replacing Toontown, and is instead being built in the NW section of DL eating out a section of ROA. To preserve rides for toddlers at Toontown.

Lastly, my major concern is going to be the impact SWL is going to have on DLR and how Walt Disney is going to manage the mob of fans flooding SWL. I think SWL is going to be a huge black hole...sucking the vast majority of customers away from DCA and the other lands. Very similar to the effect Carsland had at DCA.

I can't think of anything more exciting for DLR than SWL. It is going to be amazing!

Well at least another parking structure is being planned to be built. So additional people arriving specifically for the new land won't be, hopefully, having parking issues. Or anyone else too.
I am not excited in the least for this sw land. So at least there will be a bit more room there for some one else. Lol

I recall reading somewhere that there was a mandate by top brass to have SWL open by the time Episode IX premieres. It makes sense from a marketing perspective to deliver the new SWL timed to coincide with a huge theatrical release so I gave that rumor a degree of credibility. If the rumor turns out to be true then that would place the new land opening sometime in the last quarter of 2019, which gives them just under four years to re-architect rivers and the railroad, demo the backstage support buildings, rebuild the necessary backstage buildings elsewhere and construct the new land. Four years is tight but within the realm of feasibility for a company like WDC.

Millennium Falcon is the coolest (and fastest) hunk of junk in the galaxy, no doubt. But who would like to see this bad boy taking off and hovering above the domed rooftops of Galaxy's Edge?

The concept: near-real-scale ship replicas that actually take-off/land, rotate and appear to fly over roof tops and visitors heads via hidden booms attached to building's roof tops. Imagine cast memebers or even park guests getting into a blaster battle with Boba fett's Slave 1. :)
