Official DISNEY Cake Chatter Thread - Part II

Talked to Pat on Saturday at GF. She gave me a price of $62 for an 8" vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream. Smooth buttercream with pink/purple daises around the sides of the cake, supposed to look like the ones on Boo's door. I'm a little nervous about that part because Pat had never seen the movie and had no interest in getting a picture of it to model after.

On top will be a picture of Sully, Mike, Boo and Roz on white chocolate. Not sure what the rest will look like. I had to politely push for her to include Roz. Every time I said it she kind of ignored me.

I asked about just drawing/piping on the squares so it looks like a door in addition to the flowers on the side of the cake and the price jumped up to $90. It seemed a little ridiculous. Wish we were eating at a CR restaurant or staying at BLT this time so we could work with Brian. DD has her heart set on eating with the step sisters and Cinderella for her birthday though. She even asked me to make her a Drizella costume for it.

Anyone had cakes done at AKL? We're staying at BCV for the first 3 days of the trip and at AKV for the last 4 days, when her birthday is. We contemplated just ordering from AKL bakery and having it delivered to the room, but were worried that their bakery isn't quite as experienced.

I ordered a cake from Chef Brian this weekend. I went round and round with emails for a few days till we were on the same page (I had ideas but no idea how to make it work). The cake will be delivered to California Grill on Thursday, so I should have pics up this weekend.
I have to say after hearing so many stories about how hard/ easy it is to order a cake, I fell on the easier side. It took a phone call to get it started, emailing Brian and then calling the Contemporary Private Dining back to officially order it.

Can someone help me out...I'm leaving for disneyworld within the next 3 weeks and i would like to order a white chocoloate glass slipper...Can someone explain to me how I go about getting one. I'm eating at 1900 park fare for breakfast and I thought it would be a good idea to get one since I heard they do them at the Grand Floridian. It's for an anniversary...thanks in advance

Call private dining at the grand floridian 1-407-824-3000 and ask for Pat. Shes the one to talk to! They are $15 each, and specify that you want mousse inside, not whipped cream. A better value, if you ask me. :yay:

So I want to try for a "Minnie" head cake this year since that did not get fulfilled last year. DD's b'day will be our second day there. We would have it delivered to POR as I figure we will return after lunch in MK. But then I would love to do something for DMIL and DBIL as it is their first trip. I was thinking something like "we're so glad you came" and having it delivered at Ohana's. Our reservation is wednesday morning. So that would be a lot of cake. Any suggestions on what we could do here? I could just do a smaller cake from the boardwalk bakery for DD's bday I guess. Just thought the "family" cake would be cute at Ohanas.. maybe with something about O'Hana meaning family...

I would stick with having the cake at BCV or somewhere other than AKV. AKV is very limited in what they can and are willing to do.

We are having a custom cake made for our dinner at Sanaa, and I had to go outside of their bakery to have it done because I had such a bad experience with their pastry chef. Its now being done by someone who works at both AKL and DHS. Haven't gotten the cake yet, so I can't comment on how experienced they are, but at least this person actually returns emails.

If you don't mind sharing with us more about this particular cake once you get it I'd love to hear it. We had a pretty bad cake (taste and decorations) from AKV Dec. 2009 and going in Nov. with some friend's for a birthday. Wouldn't mind getting a cake at the resort but won't because we're staying at AKV.

I was wondering if anyone has ever seen a Halloween themed cake? we are going for Halloween and thought this might be super cute for the kids! thanks!

Ok...11 days away from our trip and I still can't make a decision. Thought of another question regarding $$.

I've seen people post their prices +tax&tip. If I'm getting it delivered to a restaurant, will this tax and availability to tip be included with the rest of the meal? Or are we tipping the bakery separate? If so, how does the payment work?

OK, so I'd LOVE to get him a custom cake with his favorite character - Hades. Will the GF make a custom cake and deliver it to 'Ohana? Do I have time? It's one week from today!!!!

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!!

Yes, but you need to call GF Private Dining ASAP: 407-824-1951

Also, I can't get CRT to send me an order form or respond to my messages! I had NO issues last year..why now!

Call Private Dining at the Contemporary instead: 407-824-2955.

Still deabting whether or not to order a cake for our October trip. I want a Halloween Haunted Mansion cake with Minnie in the theme. What do you all do with all the leftover cake... there are only 3 people in our group. Can Chef Brian do the cake and have it delivered to any restaurant we choose?

Thanks so much.:)

Chef Brian works at the Contemporary Bakery, which only delivers to the restaurants at the Contemporary, Wilderness Lodge, Ft. Wilderness, and the Magic Kingdom.

Ok, so this thread is too huge to sort through. I am going to DL in December for my 20th birthday and want to get a special order cake. I need it to be small because its just two of us, but if I cant I will pay extra and share it. But I was really hoping there were DL cake pictures on here and prices and options too. Help?

Complete info and pricing on Disneyland cakes is available at the bottom of this FAQ: http://disneytravelbabble.com/how-to/order-cake/

Here's a pic of a Disneyland cake we got:

Don't worry—Pat isn't actually making or decorating your cake. She's just the liaison with the bakery. :thumbsup2

As others have said, AKL's cake quality varies widely—not a safe bet, IMHO.

You pay for it with your meal (it is added to the bill) so you can add the tip then. The server gets the tip, not the bakery.

If I am ordering a Cinderella slipper dessert for CRT do I call CRT directly?

Call the Cake Hotline: 407-827-2253

I have a question. If I wanted to have a cake with Eeyore on it could I have another Disney character that is not from Winnie the Pooh on it as well? If not, that'll be okay.

All,

I finally have pictures uploaded from our September trip and I wanted to share a few of our Steamboat Willie cake Chef Brian and the Contemporary Bakery put together for us! It was amazing, both gorgeous in person and tasted fantastic. I would order again from them every time we go to Disney, if I could!

Theme: B&W Mickey Mouse Classic Cartoons / 3rd Wedding Anniversary
Cake: Chocolate w/ Peanut Butter filling. Chocolate buttercream under white fondant. 8 inch Cake.
Price: 165

Sorry you had such a bad experience - Thats why I got rid of our first pastry chef - She couldn't do so much as return a call, and when I did speak with her, she didn't seem to know what she was talking about at all.

I will post pictures of the cake as soon as we are back from our trip. I have sent about 10 emails back and forth with this new pastry chef (Andreas Borne) and he seems to know what he is doing.
I've also seen a cake he did for someone else, and it was very nice, so I'm pretty confident that our will turn out nicely - Plus the fact that I sent him detailed pictures and discriptions! LOL

Ok, I need some suggestions. DH and I will be at WDW Jan 7-14, 3 nights at BWI, then 4 nights at BWV. I really want to have a cake for our 10th Anniversary, but don't know when to choose to have it and where.

I want a really small cake, but not one of those fridge generic cakes. I would love chocolate cake with choc mousse or peanut butter mousse with either chocolate or vanilla butter cream or chocolate ganache. DDH doesn't really care for cake and I don't want something huge to go to waste.

We have reservations at: HDDR, Le Cellier (lunch), Biergarten, Rose and Crown, Garden Grill.

Any suggestions??

That Steamboat Willie cake had me at "peanut butter filling". It looks great too!

Silly question, but I'm pretty cake-clueless even though we've ordered two on previous trips... Is it possible to bring in really intense colors without using fondant? It doesn't have to be all over, but at least as accents? I'm thinking I'd like to order a skull-and-crossbones themed cake with an orange and black color scheme (the birthday boy's football team logo & colors) but fondant is probably out of the budget.
