Official Disney Cake Chatter - Part IV! (2012-2016)

Hi all. Trying to plan for a double birthday trip for the first week of December - we have two boys turning 5 and 9. Hoping to get them each a cake at different reservation to celebrate each birthday. Been having really good back and forth conversation with the Hollywood Studios team. But having a hard time getting in touch with Contemporary for our reservation at Chef Mickey's. I finally just decided to email them today at the main email address. Heard back from someone right away. Had included an "inspiration photo" and basically told them that the main thing we want on the cake is a small soccer ball Mickey head because our 9 year old plays soccer and LOVES soccer. The rest of the 6" cake is their discretion.

They can't do the Mickey soccer ball head "due to keeping with the integrity of the characters and copyright restrictions" I don't really get this b/c I know I've seen cakes on here with Mickey pumpkin heads, mickey ghosts, mickey all sorts of stuff. They said they can do a Mickey cut out on top playing soccer. This would be okay but still kind of bummed. I'm wondering if its the sort of thing where it just depends on who you talk to - since I've seen these cakes on here from other people.

I called about a month ago for a cake-left a message with no response. Called again Friday, left another message, no response. Is there another way to contact them? I'm trying to get a cake at POR
I ordered the cake I saw on here with the Grumpy message on the front. She asked for the picture so I sent her the link to the picture here. Initially said they didn't have a picture of both Snow White and Prince Charming (at least I think that's Snow's prince's name). I ordered it with just Snow White's picture. She just emailed me and sent two pictures of them together, just not the same as the picture here.
And shhh. I ordered another cake at Rose and Crown. The only times he's been to WDW has been in June, 3 years in a row and we've always eaten there. He always surprised me and celebrated my birthday, by having the wait staff sing Happy Birthday to me, having them sign a card and one other way I forget. It is a two tier cake with a white chocolate castle on it with pink frosting, purple trim. Asked for "Happily ever after" on the plate in front of it. This is the way I look at it-for our wedding, the traditional cake is called the bride's cake. We didn't have a groom's cake, and he picked the Grumpy/Snow White cake out of about 5 that I showed him, so that is the groom's cake for our vow renewal. The small cake is my cake for our own time.
I will post pictures of both after the vacation.

I have called 3 times to the Carribean to get a caked order to be deliver to my room. I have not heard back yet. I want the cake as surprise for my husband. Any thoughts?

I would call the main number for the resort and explain the issue. See if they can direct you to someone else at the resort who can help.

Have any of you ever ordered or seen a Professor Von Drake themed cake? My almost 3 year old is obsessed with him after watching episodes of Mickey Mouse Club House. He insists that we call him Professor most of the time and likes to wear his sunglasses down on the tip of his nose like Von Drake does.

ADORABLE! I don't think I've ever seen a PVD cake on these boards.... I'm pretty sure the Contemporary has to use one of their own, approved designs. But if you have enough time, maybe you could ask them to send an image through the approval process for you. It could take several months, but it would be helpful to future guests too.

We need the cake for the 17th so no time to have an image approved unfortunately. He was previously obsessed with Mickey. Easy! But the last couple of weeks have been all about Professor. Thanks for confirming that you haven't seen anything either. I'll have to see if they have any images available. I will report back!

In the mean time, if anyone does have an idea or runs across a cute image, please post!

I don't have a whole ton of experience with this problem in particular, but I think there are lots of ways to work with their restrictions. I have maybe an idea? instead of the Mickey head with a soccer ball pattern, what if you ask for the cake itself to be soccer ball inspired with a large green Mickey head on top/around the sides?

The person you need to speak with at CBR is Dorothy Goolsby. She is very nice and helpful, but seems to be out of the office alot. I have her email address if you would like me to PM it to you.

Could you please PM her email address to me? Thank you so much!

Yes—just be sure they know you want whipped cream frosting instead of buttercream.

Always. I usually call a couple of days out so there's still time if they've somehow lost the entire order or something.
Lurky, when we had our cake delivered to MK in May (by CR), we were told no to whipped cream frosting as it doesn't transport well per Chef Brian. Have you been told otherwise?

Honestly, I've never asked about it because I can't stand the stuff! That makes sense, though. I wonder if you could have whipped cream inside the cake or under fondant, since it's more durable.

Has anyone ordered a mad hatter style 1 teir cake. If so how much was your base price. I want to see if it is in my budget before I go getting excited finding designs. I'm looking 8 inch.

Thanks to all the ideas and tips on this thread, I was able to send some inspiration pics of the cake I wanted to order for our DD's 10th birthday at BOG. What they sent back they can do will be perfect!!! And she will be soooo surprised!!!! So thanks to everyone who gives their input and info!!! I will be sure to post pics of our cakes after the trip!!!

We also want to let our son have a special celebration when we go to T-Rex, as dinosaurs are what he's really into right now. I emailed through the website but never got a reply. Does anyone know a bakery that will deliver to Disney Springs that is able to do more than just a basic cake?

You would need to use a local baker like It's Tasty Too, Sprinkles Custom Cakes, Party Flavors, etc. Disney won't deliver and the restaurant doesn't offer cakes.

Because of the Mad Hatter carved style, it has to be two tiers.

I've had two mad hatter cakes from the Grand Floridian. They were both 1 tier 8 or 10 inch cakes and each one was about 5 layers. They were for my birthday and ordered by someone else so I'm not sure how much the base price was but I do know how much they ended up being. They were both over $250 but included a lot of fondant, decorations, white chocolate 2D images. The 2nd one was much more expensive though. (I think because it was 5 years later and the prices had gone up)

It probably would best to either call the Grand Floridian or email the Contemporary and ask how much a 1 tier 8 inch mad hatter cake would be because the prices of bakeries do vary. :)

I did find some one tier mad hatter style cakes on some old threads. I'm assuming that it would be well over $100 since one person said it cost $120 and that was 5 yrs ago.

They aren't one tier, it isn't possible to do the shape without two levels of cake stacked on top of each other. The two tiers together make up the single hat.

They are considered on tier with several cake layers with icing in between.

Here's a 3 tier cake I found on the Internet. Each tier is a different color.
