Official 2014 Donald Half Marathon

...

I've also added some more songs to my playlist, including Let It Go from Frozen. Anybody else see Frozen? I may add another song from the movie but now I'm going through my Disney list to see which ones will be good to have.

Hi! I can't wait to see Frozen - it's not out until this weekend here :goodvibes
Which other songs did you find to add to your playlist?

I have... "Go the Distance" (Hercules), "Zero to Hero" (Hercules), "I'll Make a Man Out of You" (Mulan), "It's On" (Camp Rock), "Get ya head in the game" (High School Musical) ... the theme songs from Iron Man and The Avengers.. and a few fun short songs like The Mickey Mouse Club March.. and the Three Caballeros!

Hope everyone's training is going well.. less than 6 weeks to go :cheer2:
I ran 14 miles on Sunday, took me 2 hours.. this time last year I hadn't run outside for more than 20 minutes in my whole life :goodvibes .. cannot wait for the race now!

Psst - in case anyone here hasn't seen... UNofficial waiver/bib info is happening now: http://disboards.com/showpost.php?p=50203463&postcount=1

I am just not sure what to think.... my bib # appears to be very high. I realize that for the half it very well could be behind in number to the full... but I registered almost right when it opened and my POT from a 10k was 55:XX. How could that put me in what I assume will be close to the last corral if not THE last corral??

Never mind... I took a peak at the link that was posted. Yeah... I am pretty sure I was freaking out for nothing. :rolleyes1

For those who have taken part in more than one rundisney event, does the Marathon weekend have the same possibility of exchanging shirt sizes as the TOT expo did? At the TOT I went to the shirt people and they told me to check back periodically as people change their shirts out. About an hour later I looked over and saw a shirt in the bin of the size I wanted, and ran over and exchanged my shirt for it.

Was I freakishly lucky at TOT expo? Or does this possibility exist for January as well?

Because I estimated for the wrong size when I registered, and when I contacted rundisney even before TOT they already couldn't change my size for the Half or 5K.

And those included shirts from rundisney run seriously big. Especially compared to how teensy the shirts that you BUY are!

:goodvibes

When I saw my number I nearly died. Then Coach's explanation brought me back to life. Whew.

That is what happened to me. I guess we won't know for sure for a little while yet... but his break down of numbers helped me in a HUGE way!

I found that the ToT shirt did run huge (both years I did it).... the phm 2013 not at all. I would guess that the half shirt will fit more true to size given that we had to pick a womans or mens size. Unlike at the ToT, where I think they were all just mens.

At the 2012 ToT, I was unable to exchange my shirt. I didn't try for the phm, but I thought many were doing so. So maybe it is hit or miss?

Hello all - I posted this in another thread, but thought I would ask it over here as well. My bother, a good friend, and I all are signed up to run our first ever Disney HM this year. Sadly, we did not meet the Nov 1 deadline for submitting a proof of time to the runDisney folks so it looks like we will be placed in the last few corrals. I probably know the answer since the course tends to get very congested, but how easy will it be to keep a somewhat normal pace? For example, my current HM pace is just over 8 min/mile. I'm sure there will be other "quick" runners that did not submit a time so I'm worried that the back corrals could be somewhat cluttered? I'm not concerned about getting a PR, but would like to have something respectable while not stepping on those in front of me :)

Second question, my parents will be down to watch us race, and I was looking at some of the Chear Packages as a possible Christmas gift. I was hoping that they would be able to view us from somewhere (once) along the course and then towards the finish. They are pretty mobile so getting around isn't an issue. Which package (if at all) sounds the most reasonable? They will probably arrive with us first thing in the morning so they will have to wait as well if that matters. We are all staying over the Bonnet Creek Resort who provides bus transportation.

My couple times in the back as a 9 minute runner was not all that bad, but it does require some patience in three really bad sections.
Bridge at Mile 1 – Here the course necks from a 2-lane road with shoulders and smooth grassy aprons to a one lane bridge. Just after the bridge the course bends then merges into World Drive and is wide open.
World Drive at about mile 4.2 – The course returns to World drive on a coned off one lane section. There is grass on the left, but it can be a little rutted here. This section goes up to the turn into MK and includes the Seven Seas Lagoon water bridge (under pass). Stay course left and when you see a sidewalk appear, hop up on it. You will avoid the real mess up the hill on the back side of the under pass. Security is out about every other race through here trying to escort runners off. This is about the only time I have ever just ignored them.
Mile 6.5 on Floridian – At the point where we turn left out of the back side of MK the course is once again necked down to one lane with cones. Until about 3 years ago, the coning was rater loose, but they have started coning it tightly (ie. Large cones touching). Hang course left and hop off onto the grass as required.

Otherwise, just bide your time.

Really a package is not required. They are nice for the swag but the seating benefits in my opinion are not what you are purchasing.

They should plan on coming with you to the staging area on race morning. As runners are called to the corrals, they should hop the monorail and head up to MK. If you get the Chear pack (higher than bronze) with viewing area privileges, they could then get into MK (free for all spectators during the race) and work their way up to the Castle to the Chear area. They can wait for your there, but if you are an 8 mm runner, they most likely will not get back to the finish area in time for your finish.

As an alternative, I would have them head to the TTC and wait for you to pass there and then return to Epcot and try to grab a seat there. If they have the level of package allowing a bleacher seat, they would have time to grab the monorail and get back to the finish.

Not sure if this helps.

Wow - thanks again - yes that does help. It sounds like I should just plan on a rule of thumb of staying towards the left during the bottlenecks then (sidewalk before contemporary and then the grass near the GF)? I'm a local annual passholder so I already think I know the route pretty well :)

As for the chear packages it was more for getting them something as a present since they are pretty excited about being able to be down here in FL to see us race so it will give them something to remember the race I guess. I was just hoping that there was also some benefit on the viewing areas as well. I think they would like to be able to get to the MK (just like everyone else) but one of the other spots might be a better option so they can get back to the finish line.

Another question (hopefully last one). I've got my wife and another friend (with very little kids) planning to come meet us at the finish line. How hard will it be for them to come to Epcot towards the end of the race, or should they just stay at the hotel?

:thumbsup2 From what I've been seeing, it looks like the Half starts at 40,000 (Dopey is firmly numbers in the 30,000s, and every 10K I've seen has been in the 60,000s). I submitted a 1:16:23 10K as PoT and have #455xx, for whatever that's worth.

::yes:: From one passholder to another, yes, you're in a great position! I ran the Princess Half this year (same course as the WDW Half) and knowing all of the turns, overpasses, bottlenecks, etc. as a driver/regular park visitor helped a LOT.

Should be no real issue especially if taking WDW Transportation. Monorail for those resorts, buses for all others. The possible exception is Wilderness Lodge but by the time they would be headed to park opening, the race has cleared that resort. The roadway into Epcot is not blocked by the race, I would see where traffic may be a little heavy from Buena Vista to The Epcot exit on World; mainly residual if any.

Hi everybody! I was officially able to switch over to the half today from the full through some creative maneuvers (all Disney legal, so no worries :thumbsup2), so I'm excited to join you all. Basically, if I registered through a RunDisney Travel Agent for the half, RunDisney was willing to cancel my marathon registration (that I had done directly through RunDisney/Active.com - not sure if that's important) and refund me the money for the marathon. As far as I know, this loophole closes as of this coming Monday. I found out about it when I posted about wanting to do the half instead of the full on another board and a RunDisney Travel Agent contacted me with this option (she's had others do this as well, so it's not just a one off).

Training for a full just wasn't in the cards for me this time around between illness, moving and injuries, but I'm really excited to be able to do the half and participate in the weekend. :thumbsup2

at what time would an approx. 10 MM runner be running up Main Street? i don't know if DH can get the three kids there, but I know MIL will get there if I want her to!

That'll be shortly after mile 5, so about 50 minutes after you start (somewhere between 5:30 and 6:30ish), so around 6:20-7:20.

I added For the First Time in Forever, but I haven't run to it yet. I'll have to test it out the next chance I get, which won't be this weekend :( I'm losing this weekend because of the ice storm that hit Dallas/Ft. Worth, so next weekend I'll have to skip to 8 miles.

Does anyone know how the pace teams work? Are there pace leaders in each corral? I'm wanting to follow the 2:15 (maybe the 2:00) pacer but how do I know if he/she will be starting at the same time as me?

Good question, I also wonder if you can start or follow a pace team without a proof of time instead of starting from the back?

The pace leaders will be in the corral that is appropriate for their time. For example, the 2 hour pace group may be in Corral E with other 2 hour runners (I don't know for sure which corral, I'm just guessing...FYI, the 2 hour group was in B last year). If you are in Corral D, you would have to move back to Corral E. If you are assigned to Corral F, then you would want to try and start int he front of the corral and possibly catch up or just run with the pace group that is in your corral.

I wouldn't recommend trying to catch up to a pace group. That is a recipe for disaster. That would mean that you would have to run faster than your anticpated pace in the beginning of the race and will more than likely have you using all your energy early in the race leaving you nothing for the end.

The pace groups are great to run with as they will maintain a pretty steady pace througout the race and hold you back a little at the beginning to make sure you don't dart off too fast at the start. Running with a pace group will not allow you to move up any corrals. You will want to meet your pace leader at the expo to find out their game plan (i.e. will they walk through any of the water stations). A good pace leader will motivate you throughout the race and chat it up a bit to try and keep everyone's mind off of running. They will also tell you at the end of the race that if you are feeling good at this point that it is OK to run faster to the finish. I ran with one pace group one time where the pacer finished the race all by himself.
