October 2011 MR Cruise - Beaches?

Are there any good beaches that are within walking distance from either the Cabo or PV ports? I'd like to visit a beach and dip my toes in the ocean (with my hubby and 3 munchkins in tow ), without booking it through an excursion.

If not, is that Las Caletas excursion worth the money?
