Oasis of the seas too big?

After reading this news story, I might just stay onboard in Nassau.

Yea, I just saw that, if cruise ships stop visiting there then that will destroy Nassau. It seemed like a desprate act, hijacking a tour group, I cannot imagine being that desperate. Certainly criminal folks acting this way are not thinking about the overall effects an act like this could cause on the island, but i would suppose that is the definition of desperate.

My problem with the Oasis isn't so much it's size, but the fact that, from what I've seen, you really seem disconnected from the ocean on it. Apart from the pool deck(s) and the aft of the ship, there doesn't seem to be a lot of public areas with ocean views. I've read that it doesn't even have an outside promenade deck. That's a real turn-off for me.

Great point, didn't think of that, kinda like staying at a resort hotel, someplace inland, Or even a sea side resort with occasional views of the ocean....great great point

We are booked on the Oasis for 3/20/10.
Here is thread about others booked on the Oasis, too:

Yes, the Oasis is very expensive right now. But, honestly, we are paying almost as much for our 4-night Thanksgiving cruise on the Wonder (that we are going on this week) as we are paying for the 7-night cruise on the Oasis. On both cruises we have inside cabins.

I really don't care where the Oasis or the Wonder sail to. It is the same islands we have been to many times on many ships. We are lucky to live in South Florida and have easy access to all the cruise ships.

We sailed on Voyager when it first came out and really enjoyed the ship, but they didn't know how to handle that many people. Maybe it's just because the ship was very new at the time, but the dinners were extremely bland (lunches were great) and our seating arrangements got screwed up due to an RCCL error. They stuck us with a big group that wanted to all be seated together with no one else. It took two nights to get it fixed, which were very awkward for us with the group giving us the evil eye. Maybe things run more smoothly now that there are many Voyager class ships.

I do have to say the ship itself looks impressive. I like it from the aspect of having so much to do, but I wonder if it can be a cluster at times with that many people. Imagine how many boats they would have to have just to tender!

I love the RCCL Voyager and Explorer ships. I especially liked the ice skating shows and the parades down the "street" on the ship.

It isn't a ship for us. Saw it on Good Morning America and it just didn't do anything for us. I like the smaller ships that make it feel like you are cruising. The Oasis is more like a floating hotel.

Ditto! The parade was really neat, and the ice show was one of the best shows I have ever seen on board a ship. We loved it so much that we saw it twice.

We are going to try the Oasis in March. Our boys are older (will be 16 and 12) and we look forward to these aspects:

:) Flowrider
:) Rock Climbing
:) Zipline
:) Donut shop
:) Hairspray
:) Aquatheater
:) Mini-golf
:) Neighborhoods (Central Park, Boardwalk, Promenade)
:) Ice Rink

We are worried about these aspects:

:upsidedow Casino
:upsidedow Smoking
:upsidedow Crowds
:upsidedow Drunkenness
:upsidedow Nickel and Diming
:upsidedow Port Everglades vs. Port Canaveral
:upsidedow Small cabin

We will miss:

:sad1: Disney Shows
:sad1: Fish Exchange
:sad1: DisMeets
:sad1: Fireworks
:sad1: Palo
:sad1: Rotational Dining
:sad1: Free Soda
:sad1: Movie Theater
:sad1: Castaway Cay!!!

For the same week (spring break, 2010) the Oasis was $3000 cheaper than the Magic. For 2011 we had also booked the Allure (same as Oasis except a year newer). We've now also booked B2B 3 and 4-night cruises on Dream for the same week for almost the same cost. Once we've been on the Oasis, we'll have to bite the bullet and decide whether we want to do Dream or Allure in 2011 since we'll know whether our worries about the Oasis are realized or not. Based on what I know so far...the Dream seems to be just a bigger Magic with a raft ride on top....the decision will be very difficult since we love the Magic....

I would love to tour the ship. It looks like a lot of fun, but it seems too big for me. I hope when I'm on DLC we're not docked in the same port as Oasis.

Can't wait to do Oasis! I will have to wait until 2011 :( But I have been waiting for this ship for 2 years, can't wait to finally cruise on her.

And we love the RCCL Freedom class. It was a lot less crowded than our experience on Magic/Wonder. The crowds are dispersed better. So I am hoping Oasis does the same.

I have zero desire to cruise on the Oasis. Way too big for me. It does have a lot going on, but frankly I am so uber-busy in my daily life when we cruise we just want to RELAX! I feel busy enough on the Magic/Wonder.

I also agree with a PP about no Promenade deck! One of my very favorite things to do on any cruise ship is to walk that deck, and also to find a comfy lounge chair on that deck, curl up with a book, and watch the ocean go by. Soooo relaxing. I also really love Quiet Cove pool- a drink in my hand, an uncrowded pool, great tunes playing. On Oasis I can't imagine how you would ever, ever get a pool chair. The pools are not that much exponentially bigger, to handle an additional 3000-4000 people. Admittedly, only a fraction of those would want to use the pool, but what if it's just 10% more? That's 300+ more people. No thanks, just not my thing.
