Oasis of the Seas Cruise Trip Report

Oh I'd LOVE to go on this boat! Can't wait for the rest of your report!
I totally recommend this ship!! You'll see why as I write more.

I vacation last August on Freedom of the Sea.
I'm excited to read your TR from The Oasis.
I thought the home port was in Tampa, or did it just go there for it's first voyage.
We ordered water too and the 4 of us split a case of water, I think there were 24 bottles.
We did Liberty of the Seas in '07 (sister ship to Freedom) and LOVED it! Maybe they just went out of Tampa at first. All voyages are currently set from FLL. The water sounds expensive, but it's really not, unless you want to keep refilling small plastic cups and/or using the water fountains on board.

Great photos:). I was thinking of booking the Oasis, but decided to do the Enchantment out of Baltimore.I flew a lot this year, and the thought of driving to a port was very appealing!I'm still thinking of booking the Allure or Oasis at some point though;)
I'm sure you'll love any RCCL ship! I'd recommend Allure or Oasis for the future though. Something to look forward to!

Thanks for your TR and photos. What a ship!!!!!!

We are sailing on the Allure March 2011. Can't wait:woohoo:!!!
It's quite beautiful! We are looking to book Allure sometime in 2011.

Thanks for posting this - I'm interested to hear more about your trip!
No problem - this is fun!

Love the pics! Thinking about surprising my parents with sending them on a cruise with RC in April or May of 2011.
Wow, that would be a great surprise!

Thx for sharing, sounds like beginnings of some wonderful times on a very impressive ship :thumbsup2! Our sweet kids gifted us a cruise on the Liberty for our 45th Ann. last year and that D2 balcony cabin is indeed awesome :). There are some great rates out for Oasis and Allure DH & I are scoping out to celebrate our big # birthdays fall 2011. Can't wait to read more of your report and see pix!! :goodvibes
That's a wonderful gift for your anniversary! Wow! I have also found some good rates for Oasis and Allure for next year, even just over half of what we paid for this cruise! We are actually looking at Fall '11 too - maybe we'll end up on the same sailing! Are you thinking Eastern or Western?

Great report so far. Thanks for sharing. We took our first cruise this past December, and I am ready to try some more!
Oh cruises can be so addictive!

I am soooo loving your trip report. I have never been on a cruise but if I do go on one it will be Oasis of the Seas.:cool1:

This might have been a boring post, but hopefully gives insight as to the room and storage. We found it very comfortable and really wouldn't change a thing (other than losing the smokers next door :) ).

Questions?

Not boring at all! The details are needed so we know what to expect.

Great report and pics. :thumbsup2

Dh and I are trying to decide between the Oasis and one of the new Princess ships for Thanksgiving. Great deals on Princess - none on the Oasis - but I really want to try the Oasis.

Your first cruise doesn't have to be Oasis. It's the biggest and the best right now, but there are plenty of other ships that are great. We loved Liberty of the Seas and Carnival Conquest. Different ships have different things to offer. For example, I'll mention later that the food in the main dining room of Conquest was far superior to either Liberty of the Seas or Oasis of the Seas. Liberty and Conquest are both smaller and easier to navigate, yet more crowded most of the time. But I recommend a cruise - everyone should try it once!

Haven't been on Princess. Maybe try Princess this year and hold off on Oasis or Allure for 2011 or 2012. I am finding better prices in those years than 2010. I think it's supply and demand.

We were in the bahama's when the Oasis docked (a few hours after us). We were trying to get back to our ship (Disney) when the Oasis opened it's doors. My goodness, I thought a city was coming towards us, so many people. We had to wait for a while, so we could buck the people traffic. I actually was afraid to walk toward my ship, afraid I would be trampled.

Did it feel like that onboard, that you had hoards of people, or is the ship big enough that it felt spread out?

Loving this trip report - we are really hoping ot be able to sail on the Oasis or the Alllure for my 40th (not for a couple of years yet ;)) so I'm finding the info you've provided really useful.

The post about your room is not boring at all.
It's interesting to see how the beds are near the door and not next to the balcony. Were most rooms like this?
Plus it's interesting how the balcony doors have to be closed for the AC to run.
I think I was shocked how hot it was while we were sailing. It was over 90 degrees, but then again it was August. I thought it would be a lot cooler while we sailed, but it wasn't.

So funny I just read your rpt on cruisecritic board and here you are on the Dis too!! loved the rpt - we go 8/28/10 cruise on Oasis and can't wait!!
can't wait to read your trip rpt further as you write it.

Great trip report, thank you for taking the time to write it all out.

I WANNA GO! I WANNA GO!

Love the pictures! I think the rooms w/ the balconies over the promenade area are super cool.

Great trip report. I love your detailed report and pictures. With a ship that size, did you ever feel crowded?

I will talk about the crowds a little later in the report, but the short answer is "no". It never felt crowded. It was amazing that they had that many people on that ship and it wasn't crowded!

Awesome trip report. We our getting ready to book the Allure for May 2012.
Oh I think Allure would be awesome! I think the prices in May are lower than most of the year too, so that's good timing!

That sounds like a wonderful 40th birthday celebration vacation. And with a couple of years, it's plenty of time to save up! Glad I can be helpful.

I'm here. Love the report so far. We are planning a cruise next year on Disney.

I saw the Magic in Key West last May. What a beautiful ship. I would like to cruise Disney someday - maybe when I have grandkids though. I think I'd miss the casino right now ;)

Every other room has the bed near the window vs doors. The room shape isn't a perfect rectangle. Just past the bed, there is an angled wall and the room is narrower in the "sitting" area. I hadn't really thought about it before, but that may mean our balcony was about a foot narrower than a room with the bed near the balcony.

On both Conquest and Liberty of the Seas, we were often fussed at by our room attendants for having our balcony doors open. They are right, it isn't energy-efficient, so we were bad people. But I think RCCL has figured out that people are going to do it anyway (we just love the smell of the salty air, the sound of the ocean, and the breeze), so they fixed it so that the doors could be held in one place (without the bungees people were bringing) and so that the A/C would be off when the door is open.

It was hot during the days, but not so bad at night.

That's funny. I wasn't sure if there were many cross-over readers, and my readers on my Disney PTR had asked for a mini-TR on the cruise. So I'm just copy/pasting from Cruise Critic. Oh you will have so much fun in August! Any room in your suitcase for me?

Great trip report, thank you for taking the time to write it all out.
Thanks and you're welcome!

I WANNA GO! I WANNA GO!

Love the pictures! I think the rooms w/ the balconies over the promenade area are super cool.
Everyone should sail Oasis or Allure at least once! This ship doesn't have balconies over the Royal Promenade, but it has Promenade view rooms with window seats overlooking the RP. But this ship DOES have balconies over both Central Park and the Boardwalk. Our second room overlooked Central Park. They are really cool rooms.

Great trip report. I love your detailed report and pictures. With a ship that size, did you ever feel crowded?
Nope, never felt crowded. I'll talk about that a little more later in the trip report. It was simply amazing how they controlled the crowds.

We were on the OASIS in March of this year and will be on the ALLURE next March.

We had the same type of room the OP had. If I remember right, the 3 person balconies had the bed by the door and the two person balconies had the bed by the balcony which explains the curve in the wall.

There is so much to do on OASIS/ALLURE and next year the Dreamworks characters will be on the ALLURE (will be on Oasis, Liberty and Freedom eventually). So there will be a watershow, parade, character breakfasts and random sightings. I think also a stage show and ice show, but don't quote me for sure!

As OP said about the numbers--we were over 6000 and it did not feel as crowded as it did on the Liberty/Freedom when we were on them. Leaving and returning to the ship was so quick and easy!

Am anxious to hear about the 18 year olds experiences with activities on the ship as our ds will be 18 next time and thus out of the teen group/activities.

Yes, our kids are grown w/families of their own now, we're very blessed, they're wonderful and indeed spoil us. :goodvibes

We're looking at 7 day Western itinerary this time :). The usual site we book is showing Allure fall rates $950 with gratuities thrown in too boot! Sweet!!! Shamefully RCCL site, past cruiser disc can't even match it!

Our first cruise wasn't until our 35th Ann., we got spoiled, now think it's the only way to go and have done so every other year since. We're flying out to NW this summer and it's an unbelievable amt of work to plan the schedule and activites. It was fun with a young family, but now that we're seniors I enjoy unpacking once, leave the 'driving' to someone else and go down the hall to my cabin and crash.

I am anxious to try the new Central Park balcony cabin, but DH says he can go to our local mall if he wants to see people running around ! I'll admit it nice to have brkf and P&Q in morn on your own balcony or sitting out there enjoying the sunset together. :lovestruc

OMG ~ ck out those life boats, never saw anything like them!

Thx again, anxiouslly awaiting more when you get time!! :cool1:

I saw the Magic in Key West last May. What a beautiful ship. I would like to cruise Disney someday - maybe when I have grandkids though. I think I'd miss the casino right now ;)

Yes, Disney cruise is a must do for children and all young at heart :thumbsup2. We did several years ago one C'mas and it was so fun to see Disney cruise through the grands eyes. Another time took my dear Mom for her 74th BD and she was thrilled with the ship, service, food and entertainment. It's a must do as no one pulls off magic quite like Disney :wizard:! I believe they even have two more new ships. :goodvibes

Great photos:). I was thinking of booking the Oasis, but decided to do the Enchantment out of Baltimore.I flew a lot this year, and the thought of driving to a port was very appealing!I'm still thinking of booking the Allure or Oasis at some point though;)

We booked a Bermuda cruise right out of Baltimore a few yrs back. It's wonderful to be able to drive an hour, park your car, walk on ship w/no flight or transport hassle. Sadly I don't foresee larger ships allowed without major structure, but the smaller ships are quaint and have much to offer also. Have a wonderful time! :flower3:

Both of our rooms were for 3 passengers, and both had the bed near the bathroom. So you may be right!

I will be sure to include the activities of my daughter. It was a little tough for her, since she was with a 17-year-old and they were very strict about ages.

i would be interested in knowing what they have for 12 yr olds since we will have 2 on our tirp. (boys)
