The kids had a great time at the concert! It was actually in a great location, a little park just above where the cruise ships dock. I found a garage about a block away for only $15 (12 hours). We got the kids settled and walk to times square. Not a bad walk. There were quite a few restaurants and shops a couple of blocks away if you only have a couple of hours to kill.
The kids sent a text when the main band was about to start. We walked back to the park to wait near our designated meeting spot. Just before the show was over, a very nice police officer walked around to all the adults appearing to be waiting for their kids. He told us they couldn't come this way (south), they were all going to be sent North to cross the west side hwy at 58th st. (The cross at this is under the hwy, much safer than using the 55th st crosswalk.) We (along with the other parents) went that way looking for a new spot to meet, texting our kids. It was very nice of the policeman to do this. As the herd of HS/collage aged kids came out. Many were asking the officers near us for directions to the subway, taxi, etc. Again, they were so nice and helpful.
A great event. Very well managed with lots of great security.
P.S. Maybe next time they will listen to us "oldies" and choose footwear according to comfort, not style.
