No More Combining Disney Gift Cards

Today I went into a Disney Store (in Northern California) with a stack of 6 of the $50 Disney Gift Cards (that I bought with my 5% discount at Target) to combine them into one $300 card. NO DICE.

The Manager said that the policy had been changed and that they could not sell gift cards that were tendered for payment with a gift card OF ANY TYPE ... this includes both the Disney Gift Cards and a VISA Gift card. She showed me that the cash register did not even give the clerk the option to accept gift card payment.

Next up, I called the Disney Gift Card hotline listed on the card and the associate immediately told me that their cards could NOT be combined and that, yes, you could NO LONGER go to a Disney store to combine them.

Finally, just to be sure, I called Disneyland directly and asked the cast member about this. She was not aware of the changes at the Disney Store regarding this matter.

In all instances, everyone confirmed that you can take your stack of Disney cards and purchase a ticket to the park with multiple cards. But, why this is a bummer, is that you can not use more than 1 gift card when you purchase tickets on-line. This factors in with the AAA discounted tickets. Because AAA ultimately links into the Disney site, you can only use one card toward a AAA purchased ticket.

So, plan accordingly. As for me, I will just purchase one ticket via AAA so that I get the free parking and use one $50 giftcard and pay the rest on my credit card.

My AAA has the tickets in the AAA office on a spinner. I'd suggest you call the office and see if you can use more than one gift card if purchasing in the office.

Can't you speak to a rep on the phone to handle buying your tickets using multiple GCs?

I went into the AAA office to try to buy the tickets, but at my office they just log-into the same website and give you a print-out. So, they had no extra options.

Also, on that page, I looked everywhere to try to find a phone number that was AAA specific to call, but they are all just the general Disneyland line.

I've been able to get my AAA travel agent to call Disney before and apply multiple gift cards that way. It's an extra step for them, but that's why I pay my membership fee!

I'm only buying one ticket, not a travel package. Did you get an agent to help you then?

Our Disney Store hasn't combined gift cards for several years now.

None of this is news. It has been this way for quite some time.

It can be a pain in the neck to have to haul a stack of GCs to Disney in order to use them but there is no other way. I would be nice if Target carried larger denominations. I'm going to have a nice, long phone conversation with Member Services in January when I pay my DVC dues. It can take quite a while to read off that many GC codes.

A Disney Store I went to last weekend had parkhoppers for sale that looked like gift cards..plastic cc card size. I bet you could use multiple Disney GC to pay for those?
