New or resale ?

We just spent a great week at the Beach Club. We have decided to join the DVC and were ready to sign up for 200 pts at SSR. When we got back home we did some searching and discovered the resale pages.
Here is my question: If we join SSR we can book at that resort 11 months in advance but only 7 months in advance at the BC. From some of the earlier threads that I read, it seems that the 7 month rule could almost lock you out completely for the BC....is this true?
If we really want to stay at the BC, would we be better off just buying a membership in that resort on the secondary market instead of buying SSR?
One other question: Has anyone used the DVC for stays in other states (Montana, Hawaii, etc) or for international stays (Italy, France, etc) ?
Thanks a bunch in advance.

If BCV is where you want to stay...you need to buy there through resale. Why pay a much higher price for SSR when you will be using your points to stay at another resort? A word of advice though: BCV resales are snapped up very quickly. You need to call all of the resellers and let them know what you are looking for as many don't make it to the lists on their websites.

Yes, many members use their points for resorts other than WDW but bottomline, none of them give you the bang for your buck you'd have staying onsite @ a DVC resort. The most common suggestion for staying elsewhere is to rent your points (going rate is $10/pt) and use the profit to pay cash for your stay (including DL & DCL).

Just take the time to read through this board you will gain a wealth of knowledge and have more confidence in your decision (whatever that may be).

P.S. Welcome to the DisBoards!!!

Welcome to the DIS! You are wise to have checked here. Many folks are more than happy to help and be honest with you.
Most of the posters here will tell you to buy where you most want to stay. If that is BCV then you will need to do a resale. I know of 5 major resellers you can contact to try to get a BCV resale. Here are the links. Other posters may know of more links:

Good luck. We LOVE our DVC at BWV and wish you the best in your decision making and shopping.

The above recommendations were excellent. However, if you use tug I would suggest you use a closing service, if you buy directly from the seller without a broker. Most of the classified ads on tug are private sellers.

There is plenty of information at the tug website concerning the use of a closing service. I have purchased from a private seller and used the Timeshare Closing Services, Inc. located in Orlando.

Good luck and enjoy!

I have spent months going over whether to buy new or resale. I have read just about every post I could find on this site. What I came up with is this, location really did not matter to me because we can always go in the off season. I can also plan my trips at least 7 months in advance and most likely can get a reservation wherever I want. Saratoga is a brand new beautiful resort and we love DownTown Disney so we bought new from Disney. I also liked the idea of the extra 12 years I will never use them but my kids will. Good luck
