New Film for China Pavilion?

Nice to see this is something actually in the works, instead of just a rumor... EPCOT needs to update the films periodically.

Remember, though, that Epcot doesn't totally control the updating of the films. Since each country's government / tourism bureau foots a significant portion of the bill, if China or Canada says "not this year" then it doesn't really matter what Epcot is thinking.

But that's only because Disney doesn't want to pay for such things.

If they called up Canada and said "Hey you Hosers, we want a new film on Canada. We'll foot the bill and provide the necessary resources, all we want in exchange is a case of Moosehead...", I'm sure the film would be made.

Disney can get the updates done if they want to, they just choose not to due to cost.

It doesnt seem as if China will decide not to foot the bill considering they are already done filming. This is a great step for Epcot and it may get other participant nations to follow suit...who knows maybe they already have, we didn't hear about this until they finished shooting.

Disney owns the property and the attractions. Disney keeps the admission fees.

This isn't a co-op. It's time Disney invest in their assests...and not wait for others to do so.

They're supposed to be selling advertising on attractions, not attractions to advertise.

Good news!!
Last time I saw that film, we had to stand up. Any chance they'd put in some seats to go along with that film??
Or would that bankrupt both China and Disney?:)

But it's a 360° movie. If a CircleVision theater had regular theater chairs, you would only see see the front half of the movie. If a CircleVision theater had swivel chairs, the chairs would have to be so far apart that theater capacity would be too low, and guests would object becuase they would be sitting too far from their family members.

There's a reason why the audience stands in CircleVision theaters. (But if you look at other guests, it's amazing how many always face one direction.)

Agreed....it's a bit hard to look around when the focus of the story is directly in front of you....

Maybe they could put chairs in the 360 movies with the technology from Buzz Lightyear in the MK. You could sit and spin.
The Epcot films are lovely, but they ALL need to be updated.

This is also an opportunity to add a new attraction to Tomorrowland at Disneyland in California. The old Wonders of China film ran there through much of the 1990s. A new China 360° movie would be a big improvement over a locked, empty building.

The CircleVision theater is currently unused. Most recently, it was part of the queue for Rocket Rods. As far as I know, the projectors and screens are still there. The railings in the theater would need to be replaced, and the pre-show area would need to be changed. But it would be a way to add a new attraction to Disneyland at a very modest cost to Disney.

Perhaps this is already part of the plan.

A new 360° movie about China wouldn't have the advertising value of a new $100 million "E" Ticket attraction, but at least Disney could promote that there's something new at Disneyland. The park has many repeat guests and passholders who are eager to have anything new. Also, California has a large population of people of Chinese origin, for whom such a movie might have special appeal.

Forgot about that 360 thing. But maybe a new film and a new theatre are in order. The best film by far in Epcot is in France--and that's a sit-down theatre and not 360. My guess is that most folks would always favor an attraction where they could sit rather than stand. And a fine film could result even absent any of that 360 business--.

Retrofitting a 360 degree theater with spinning seats would diminish ride capacity, true, but I think the wow! factor of a new film coupled with advertising a 'new' type of 360 theater would make up for the loss of goodwill from the diminished capacity.

In fact, if the Epcot 360's were retrofitted rightaway, it would be a marketing coup from the standpoint of advertising a supposedly 'new' mechanism with, hopefully, lines outside the show buildings due to the loss in capacity.

And it can't be that expensive to add seats...much less expensive than Fuji Mountain... ;)
